Quick Install Guide

Minimum Requirements
This section provides minimum hardware and software requirements for the
Aspen Engineering Suite of products. For more detailed information, refer to
the Aspen Engineering Suite Installation Guide and the following web site.

Desktop System Requirements


Computer and Processor: Intel Core-i5 family 2.8 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
Memory (RAM): 8 GB 1/2
Free Hard Disk Space: 80 GB 1
Display: Graphics card / monitor supports 1280 x 1024 or higher resolution
Network: 100 MB/second

Server System Requirements


Computer and Processor: Dual Intel Wolfdale-DP family 2.66 gigahertz (GHz) (4 cores) or
faster 3/4
Memory: 16 GB or more 3/4
Free Hard Disk Space: 300 GB 3/4
Display: Graphics card / monitor supports 1280 x 800 or higher resolution
Network: 100 MB/second or above, Gigabyte network recommended.

Notes
1 For desktops with PIMS, 16 GB of RAM and 250 GB of free hard disk space are recommended.
2 On a 32-bit Windows 7 system, the operating system cannot use more than 4GB of RAM. 64-bit
systems are recommended.
3 For standalone deployments of Engineering products, the following is sufficient:
- Intel Core-i5 family 2.8 gigahertz (GHZ) or faster, 8 GB of RAM, and 150 GB of free
hard disk space.
4 For aspenONE Server and Aspen Properties Enterprise Server, the following is recommended:

- Quad Intel Wolfdale-DP family 2.66 GHZ (8 cores) or faster, 32 GB of RAM, and 500
GB free hard disk space.
 SLM (Software License Manager), AFW (Aspen Framework Security), and Infrastructure machines
follow the same hardware requirements as Engineering.
 When running software on a virtual machine, the machine should meet the same requirements as
shown above.

V8.8 Supported Desktop Platforms

Windows 8.1 Update Professional and Enterprise (64-bit)
Windows 7 SP1 Professional and Enterprise (32- and 64-bit)
AspenTech recommends using a 64-bit Operating System for Activated
Engineering, RefSYS Refinery Reactors, and working with large models. For more
information, please refer to the product installation guides.
Aspen Plus Refinery Reactors and Process Manuals do not support Windows 8.1
If FIPS is enabled, aspenONE Exchange users must have the latest Windows Update
patches installed on their machine.

Supported Microsoft Office


Microsoft Office 2010 SP2 or 2013 SP1 (32-bit) (Except Aspen Plus Refinery
Reactors)

The V8.8 aspenONE Engineering suite consists of the following products: Aspen Plus
family, Aspen HYSYS family, Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating (EDR), Aspen Economic
Evaluation (EE), Aspen Basic Engineering (ABE), aspenONE Web Server, and aspenONE
Exchange.

Aspen Plus Refinery Reactors and Process Manuals do not support Windows 2012 R2.
If FIPS is enabled, aspenONE Exchange users must have the latest Windows Update
patches installed on their machine.

If using aspenONE Exchange on Windows Server 2012 R2, you must select the
Desktop Experience option during Windows installation to enable Flash training videos.

Java JDK 1.6 (Only required for Economic Evaluation and aspenONE Web Server)

Installing Aspen Engineering
Products
To begin an installation, insert the Engineering DVD into your DVD drive.
Alternatively, DVD content can be shared from a network server.
To install the AspenTech Engineering products, if:
autorun is enabled, the Welcome screen appears.
autorun is not enabled, navigate to your DVD drive or network server and
double-click setup.exe
The following table lists and provides a brief description of the installation
screens in the order in which they appear during the installation.

Installation Screen Description


1 Welcome to the Aspen Includes links to the Install Guides and Release
Engineering V8.8 Notes on the DVD, as well as links to the Aspen
Installer Update Center and Customer Support Site pages.
The main area of the Welcome screen contains icons
and links for four Install workflows. The first two
workflows are for installing new products or
upgrading/repairing existing products on an
individual desktop system.
To install a product for the first time, select Install
aspenONE Products.
The majority of Engineering products support co-
existence, and as a result new versions of products
can be installed on the same machine as previous
product versions.
To upgrade from a previous release, select Upgrade
or repair existing products.
If there are updates available for the older
products on the system, the Update Center
prompts you for any available updates. (See
Step 1a below.)
Select Prepare Deployments to create a script that
you can use for silent installs.
Select Install and Configure SLM (Software
License Manager) Server to install and configure
an SLM server running on a server system; should
be used only by IT groups and Administrators.
1a aspenONE Product The Upgrade or repair existing products option
Updates (optional) is active if any previous installation of aspen
products or system files is detected.
If you start a new install and you are prompted
that “previous versions are detected” you should
accept the option to proceed to “Upgrade or repair
existing products” before you install the new ones.
If you decline, your new products will be installed,
but you will still have to return to the installer to
upgrade the existing products.
If updates are available, the Welcome screen
initially displays the Update Center.
Click View Patches.
The aspenONE Product Updates screen appears.
You can either choose to install all of the patches at
this time, or you can return to the regular installation
and install patches later.
When all patches are applied to products on the
system, you return to the Welcome screen where
you can install new Engineering products and
versions. (See Step 1 above.)

3 Prerequisite validation Verifies that all prerequisite software is installed. If


there is missing software, you must install it. In
many instances, you can install the software
without canceling the Aspen installation.

4 Choose the aspenONE Select the products you want to install. If you select
products you want to Process Modeling (Aspen HYSYS), Aspen Plus is
install also installed. You can select Process Modeling
File Location (Aspen Plus) if you only want to install Aspen Plus.
When you select a top-level product, many of the
subcomponents are also selected. For some products
you can uncheck a subcomponent.
When you select a product or subcomponent, a
description appears on the right side of the screen.
Use the File Location tab to specify where to install
the Aspen products.

5 License Security Enter the name of the SLM Server to be used by the
installed applications.

6 Aspen Basic Used to configure the Broker Service Account for


Engineering Server Aspen Basic Engineering.
Configuration
7 aspenONE Drive Used to configure aspenONE Drive. aspenONE Drive
(Optional) is used with Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS to
collaborate and share models with colleagues.
If you do not specify an aspenONE Drive during
installation, users will be prompted for the URL when
they use aspenONE Drive in Aspen Plus or Aspen
HYSYS.

8 Windows Service Account Used to provide domain user account information for
Windows Services.
9 aspenONE Enterprise Used to provide the SQL server instance to use.

10 Verify your installation After you select the products to install and provide
information for the installation, you can view and verify
the products you select. You can go back to previous
screens to make changes.

11 aspenONE Progress bars for the overall install and for each
installation individual product install appear while your products
progress are being installed.

12 aspenONE If patches are available for some products previously


installation installed on the system and you have not updated
complete these patches in the beginning of the install workflow,
you are prompted to install patches again. In this case,
click View Patches.

13 Reboot If your system must be restarted for any product you


installed, you can use Reboot to start the machine.
You can also use Automatically launch aspenONE
Update Agent after rebooting the computer to
update products with current patches.
