International credentials and grade equivalencies

Our Tradition of Welcoming International Students
Many of McGill’s graduate students have completed prior studies outside of Canada. Accordingly, our admission specialists are well versed in
interpreting international credentials and grades. All graduate program applicants, whatever their background, must have completed at least one
undergraduate degree from a recognized university, with a grade point average of at least 3.0/4.0 or the equivalent.

International Credentials and Grade Equivalencies

On this website, our admission specialists have compiled the formal names of education credentials, grading scales and McGill equivalencies for
about 80 countries. Each description is derived from research into several recognized sources (listed below). Many descriptions also take into
account input from our applicants, members of the McGill faculty and the broader academic community.

Please note that all education systems, credentials and grading scales are subject to change. Standards vary from institution to institution, even
year to year. Determination of credentials and grades is always, to a certain extent, interpretive and subjective.
