Page Brainstorm, • Please get out a blank sheet of paper (lined or white). And down the
assignment left side of the page number 1 to 10. For each number I want you to

holidays, special occasions, moving to a new home or school, etc.)
• Would anybody like to share?
• We will now have our initial reading of the poem Where I am From

will be the process we use for each poem. As we read
the poem, please circle, highlight, and/or underline
your favourite line in the poem.
• What is the poem saying? What does it mean? What is
your understanding of the poem?
• Now turn your page over, and make an “x” (there should be four
quadrants on the page - I may demonstrate on the board)
• I will read you a series of questions, and give you 30 seconds to write
as much as possible (these will also be up on the board for you to
view)

the author listed in their poem to answer the questions we just did.

newspapers, race cars, barbie dolls)
• Items found in their backyard (broken rakes, dog bones, hoses
“coiled like green snakes”)

childhood; Uncle Bob, Aunt Erin, etc.)

similar or different from the poem?
• Third and final reading of the poem. Did your understanding of the
poem change? Stay the same?
• After we have read each poem in our bracket, you will need to
complete an assignment. You must answer two questions (provided
in the booklet) for each poem. Today I am choosing one of the
questions for you.
• You must choose one question on your own (in the future you
will pick both questions) but for this poem I am requiring that
you choose #9 as your first one → you must creatively
respond to this piece using a poem. You may use what we did
in the XPAGE activity to help you. → you are not limited to the
10 sentences/10 lines for this question, you may write more,
