The Allamakee County Cattlemen’s Association D

The Allamakee County Cattlemen’s Association recently awarded scholarships which have been giv- c
en annually to area graduating seniors who answer
three essay questions on beef. Pictured at left in the
accompanying photo taken and submitted by Lex-
ie Bieber during a recent grilling event sponsored
by the Allamakee County Cattlemen’s Association
are members of the Association with the two area
graduating seniors from Waukon High School who
were each awarded scholarships by the Association
in 2018. Pictured, left to right, are 2018 scholarship
winner Logan Berns, Allamakee County Cattlemen’s
Association members Ryan Collins, Chuck Deering,
Jack Heffern, Dan Schmitt, Ron Cota, Kerry Troen-
dle and Shane Gavin, 2018 scholarship winner Dani
Stock, and Allamakee County Cattlemen’s Associa-
tion members Jim Trappe, Tate Ryan and Mike Col-
lins.
Funding for the scholarships comes from a variety
of events sponsored by the Cattlemen throughout the
year. The Cattlemen host several grillings in down-
town Waukon, and at the Allamakee County Fair and
other locations. In the fall, the Cattlemen host a Club
Calf Auction at Northeast Iowa Equity Sales Com-
mission in Waukon, where they sell calves to buyers
throughout the country, some as far away as Tex-
as. In the spring, the Cattlemen conduct a Breeding
Soundness Exam (Semen Check) for area produc-
ers. The Cattlemen have been strong supporters of
4-H and FFA youth and have also donated money
to several local organizations, including the Veterans
Memorial Healthcare Foundation Christmas Fantasy
and area churches.
The Allamakee County Cattlemen’s Association
consists of area beef producers who care about beef
and they would like to express their appreciation to
all who have patronized them in their activities. Any
beef producer who would like to become a member
of the Association is invited to join.
