Abstract

Our aim is to create a SAFETY JACKET during accident in water. This jacket consist of an inflation unit which inflates when
there occurs an accident in water which helps the user to float above water. The working mechanism is that, at the time when
accident occur the salt used here get dissolved in water and make the co 2 cylinder valve open. Then the gas get filled the inflating
unit and thus the floating occurs. The wire connected adjacent to the jacket will release automatically its connection when the
jacket get expand. The GPS and GSM module used here get activated and the location message will be reaching the emergency
department. By this the rescue system is done more efficiently. Recent day’s people are using life jacket for water safety and this
system does not consist of any GPS and GSM module. Our proposed system will efficiently help the emergency department in
saving life. The main disadvantages of the recent life jacket is Bulky and uncomfortable also it does not consist of accruing location
of the user for more efficient rescue methods. The safety jacket proposed here is compact in size and sent the location of the person
who met with accident to emergency department and the life is saved without any fail.

I. INTRODUCTION
Most boating accidents occur at the end of the day when environment, and drinking can induce bad judgement. The number one
cause of fatalities in boating accidents is capsizing. It is normally the result of improper loading or overloading, but also can be
caused by other things such as foul weather. Capsizing is when a boat turns on its side or turns completely over. Swamping occurs
when a boat stays upright and fills with water. Sometimes a person falling overboard from a boat causes the boat to capsize or
swamp. Regardless, the outcome is the same people are in the water unexpectedly. To help prevent and prepare for capsizing,
swamping, or someone falling overboard, follow these guidelines.
This may cause severe problems to human and even cause death. Our aim is to create a safety jacket during accident in
water. This jacket consist of an inflation unit which inflates when there occurs an accident in water which helps the user to float
above water. It also consist of a GPS & GSM module which gives the location of the user to the emergency department when the
user met with accident. The survey taken last year given as the causes of boat accidents are classified into 6:
– Operator inattention - Accidents: 551, Deaths: 58
– Operator inexperience - Accidents: 458, Deaths: 37
– Improper lookout - Accidents: 410, Deaths: 17
– Machinery failure - Accidents: 307, Deaths: 17
– Excessive speed - Accidents: 305, Deaths: 28
– Alcohol use - Accidents: 260, Deaths: 91
The reason involves the type of accident. Inexperienced operators often do things like bash into the dock going slightly
too fast, resulting in minor damage to the boat and minor injuries to passengers. Whereas drunk people drown a lot. If they use
safety jacket the rescue can be done more efficiently and this makes the relevant of the jacket we proposed here.

II. LITERATURE SURVEY

N. E. Miller [2014] : In this the main objectives were, The device will allow the user to retain the jacket in wet conditions by
switching it into manual mode. If the automatic mode is chosen as a safety precaution, it will still allow the user to enter the water.
And the findings we found in this journal where the device is a jacket which had both manual and automatic mode .it’s mainly
used in the navy operation rescue systems.
Prof. Chung-Sing, Chin [2011]: The objectives were to do exercise which utilizing water buoyancy to give support and

findings were This life jacket is specially designed so as to give exercise to children in water and the design of the jacket is made
simple here.
Mohammad Khalaj Amir Hosseini [2003]: The objective of this journal was this system mentioned here make
transportation and float over installation operation of South Pars Gas Field living quarters platform on designated 6 legged jacket.
The findings obtained in this system is for transportation of gaseous materials and the material will be having six layer of inflation
unit for more safety procedures.
Shahin Matina on [2017]: Developing life jacket through creative problem solving method of TRIZ The objective is
Concept which grants user's needs in both normal and emergency situations and makes it beneficial in all phases of the product
using process. This concept combines life jacket, shoulder bag, smartphones capabilities and survival kit in one product to improve
product desirability, usability and also its appearance. The findings obtained from this jacket mentioned here is mainly used of old
people which had automatic and normal inflating conditions
Cole S. Simpson [2017]: In this journal the constructed a prototype exo muscle by reinforcing a plastic bladder with a
fabric bag that is sewn to supporting straps. The bladder can then be inflated with pressurized air to provide expansive forces
between the user’s torso and arm, supporting shoulder abduction. Summary obtained from literature survey was none of them deals
with the rescue system with GPS & GSM module which showing the location of the person met with accident. Thus rescue
operations are made more simple and efficiently.

III. PROPOSED SYSTEM

The existing system consists of automatic inflating unit which inflates automatically when we met with water accidents.
The proposed system is designed to save people who met with water accident in more efficient way using GPS and GSM module.
Safety jacket is in compact form which is easy and convenient to use. The jacket inflates automatically when person fall in water.
GPS module will locate the position of the person when jacket inflates and sent this location to the emergency department
continuously. Thus person can easily be rescued by knowing the location.

A. Working of the System

When person fall in the water, there is a salt pellet which dissolves that triggers the compressed spring to hit the bottom face of the
cylinder. The cylinder consists of compressed co2. This compressed gas fills the compact jacket and inflates it, which help the
person to float above the water. When the jacket inflates it triggers a switching mechanism which send signal to microcontroller
ATmega32. Microcontroller sent signal to GPS module to acquire current location of the person. This location is sent back to
microcontroller. Microcontroller already having preprogramed number to which the location of the user is sent through GSM
module. SIM808 is used since it consist both GSM and GPS module. Microcontroller communicate to SIM808 using MAX232
since ATmega32 gives TTL output and SIM808 uses USART protocol. Now the location of the user as sent to the emergency
department and rescues system works effectively.

IV. CONCLUSION
The water accidents may cause by different ways, the proper way to save human life is using a safety jacket. This jacket consist of
an inflation unit which inflates when there occurs an accident in water which helps the user to float above water. It also consist of
a GPS & IOT module which gives the location of the user to the emergency department.
Our aim of the project is to provide efficient water rescue system using life jacket integrated with GPS system.in recent
times people use bulky life jacket which will not provide location of the user in accident. There is a strong need for the investigating
the possibilities of design and implementation of identifying the location of user who met with an accident.
In future we can make the jacket more compact and we can add health monitoring system. Refilling cylinder also can be
accounted in future.
