Message from Chief Guest and Honorary Chair, ICAECC 2018
Dear colleagues,
It is encouraging to celebrate the “ON ADVANCES IN ELECTRONICS, COMPUTERS AND
COMMUNICATIONS” technical symposium at REVA University to gather experts in the field
of electronics, computers, and communications. It is even more encouraging if the symposium
can gather researchers from academia, industry and at the same time let students to attend the
symposium. This combines three important ingredients to succeed as a technical society
developing technology to make our lives better. On one hand, we have the academia in close
contact with students, the future engineers that very soon will take over the role of being highly-
qualified professionals in technical companies either in India or abroad. On the other hand, we
have researchers in industry to show their latest advances to transform research into real
products.
We are experimenting very fast changes and evolutions that couldn’t have taken place with the
advances in the three topics selected for the conference: electronics, computers, and
communications. The revolution in wireless communication from the first 1G communications
systems to the 5G relies on how fast is electronics, how fast can we compute information, and
how we can communicate such information from one point to another wirelessly. We are lucky
to live this revolution in technology.
This scenario is an ideal place to collaborate and to meet new players in the field. People from
academia not only can share their knowledge with their peers but also can establish
collaborations with companies and even with other research groups. At the same time, students,
either pre-graduate and graduate, have the opportunity to be in close contact with the future
world. An event like this helps to better decide their future path in life.
We should take the ICAECC 2018 event as an excellent opportunity to share our advances in
the field, to create synergies between different researchers in academia and industry, to analyze
how technology is evolving, and finally to motivate our young engineers to do it better than us.
I wish you the best experience.
Many thanks for attending the conference.

Dr. Jaume Anguera

Founder Partner and Chief Scientist at Fractus Antennas, Barcelona, Spain
Associate Professor, Universitat Ramon LLull, Barcelona, Spain

Message from Guest of Honor

A conference is a place where true meeting of minds happen. Researchers who would have
done a good deal of thinking about their idea, will come forward and share their thoughts with
fellow researchers. The beauty of a conference such as ICAECC 2018 is that it allows such
exchanges which in turn will ignite more ideas and ways of improving the presented ideas. The
biggest beneficiaries hence will be the attendees who truly participate. I thank and congratulate
the organising team and REVA University for enabling innovation through a conference such
as ICAECC. With the blurred boundaries between domains, technologies getting merged and
less compelling technologies practically disappearing, we need to be updated on how our world
is evolving and changing. We can use of ICAECC 2018 to add value to ourselves, our research
and our communities. Wish you all a great conference and enjoy the city of namma Bengaluru.

KEYNOTE AND TUTORIAL TALKS
Keynote Topic: Recent Trends in Small- Satellite Development and PISAT
Speaker: Dr. Vinod K. Agrawal
Date: 09 February 2018
Time: 11:30am to 12:30pm
Venue: Kuvempu Auditorium, C. V. Raman Block

Abstract: Design and development of Nano /Micro/ Small satellites has witnessed great
advancements and still imposing challenges to the world. University environment is ideal to imbibe
the innovative ideas to address the miniaturization of subsystems. The trend of low cost, low weight
and low power satellites development help to prove the experiments which can be taken forward for
bigger mission. Satellite development is well known interdisciplinary concept which involves all the
fields of engineering. The systems of a small satellite are similar to bigger missions and consist of
control system, command and monitoring system, power generation and distribution, structure,
propulsion and on board computers. The satellite development is in fact constrained by lot of factors
such as mechanical loads, thermal aspects and radiation environment. The talk, addresses the current
technological development and challenges foreseen in each subsystem. We would also, like to take
this opportunity to discuss the design and development of PISAT, a three axis magnetic control based
nano satellite with S- Band communication system, launched on 26th September 2016. It also briefs
about the on orbit performance of PISAT, as well as the future missions PISAT 2 and PISAT3, which
are planned to launch in near future.

Tutorial Topic: Ground Plane Boosters: Antenna Design for Wireless Devices
Speaker: Dr. Jaume Anguera
Date: 10 February 2018
Time: 10:45am to 12:45pm
Venue: Kalpana Chawla Seminar Hall, C. V. Raman Block

Abstract: The short-course will introduce the audience

to a small and multiband antenna technology based on
replacing a complex and usually customized antenna
design with an off-the-shelf, standardized, miniature
component called ground plane booster. Being surface-
mount and chip-like in nature, the antenna booster fits
seamlessly in an electronic printed circuit board the same
way any other electronic component such an amplifier,
filter or switch, to name a few, does. It can be assembled
with a conventional pick-and-place machine, making the
manufacture and design of the new generation of
IoT/Mobile or wireless device simpler, faster and more
effective.
The audience (from PhD students to researchers in the
field)will be introduced to the theory behind designing a
ground plane booster, will be given practical examples,
and will participate in a hands-on, practical application
using Microwave Office circuit design software.

Dr. Jaume Anguera, SM-IEEE, was born in Vinaròs, Spain. Founder partner

Abstract: In the recent years there is considerable growth in the Vehicular system, driver safety and assistance
system. In the current trend, GPS is one such system used for navigation assistance. Today cell phone has become
a part and parcel of many people in the world today. Cell phone and GPS receiver are operational, that leads to
increase in the cost and energy of navigation. The main objective of this work is to reduce the cost and minimize
the amount of energy consumed in the navigation system. In this position paper we propose, an energy efficient,
high accuracy, low cost navigation system architecture for the dynamic navigation using the existing
infrastructure. It has three techniques for accessing location maps for the navigation system namely; 1) uses
reservoir as the source of location maps for cell phone (without internet connection). It uses cell phone as interface
between the navigation system and the reservoir. 2) It is assumed that some of the vehicles in VANET have
location information. In this case cell phone is used as an interface between VANET and navigation system for
transmission of location map and 3) cell phone uses internet as the source of location maps and transfers location
ma p to the navigation system. Proposed navigation system comprises of memory, Graphical User Interface (GUI),
audio/visual system and short-range RF communication system.

Abstract: A high gain and best matching antenna integrated low noise amplifier is designed using CMOS 65nm
technology is reported. A single stage cascode topology is adopted for LNA to achieve higher gain in c-band
applications generally. An quarter wave impedance transformer technique was used for microstrip antenna to
achieve best matching. Combined with cascode topology an L-based tuning network is developed to achieve the
band of frequency range. The designed LNA achieves the high power gain of 26dB and a constant noise figure of
1.3db. The antenna achieved best matching of -44dB with a moderate gain of 4dB which is amplified by the
proposed LNA.

Abstract: A metamaterial loaded multiband frequency reconfigurable antenna is reported. The antenna has a size
of 0.34λ_l×0.34λ_l×0.02λ_l, at a lower frequency of 3.95 GHz. The antenna consists of two metamaterials,
namely, Circular Complimentary Split Ring Resonator (CCSRR) and Hexagonal Complimentary Split Ring
Resonator (HCSRR), which independently controls the band at 3.95 and 5.72 GHz, respectively. The proposed
antenna shows resonance at 3.95, 5.72 and 8.3GHz, with fractional bandwidth of about 3.2% (3.8-4GHz), 2.96%
(5.51-5.64GHz) and 4.22% (8.1-8.45GHz). Frequency reconfiguration in the proposed antenna is achieved by
utilizing two metallic switches, by placing them between the rectangular slot present in the radiating part and the
ground plane. When both the switches are ON antenna operates at single band. When either of the switches is ON
antenna operates at dual band. When both the switches are OFF, antenna operates at triple band. Acceptable gain,
stable radiation pattern and good impedance matching are observed across the operating bandwidths.

Abstract: Rotating point spread function (RPSF) is generated using a Fresnel zone type spiral phase mask, which
encodes the axial position of a point source in the orientation of the point spread function. Microgrid polarimeter
is an established technique to determine the polarization signature of an object. In this paper, we propose a new
methodology which combines RPSF technique with microgrid polarimetry in order to obtain a joint polarimetric-
three-dimensional imaging capability. Simulation results are obtained for 3D localization of point sources
and estimation of its linear polarization signature using data frames with and without additive white Gaussian
noise.

Abstract: Human brain is the command centre of the human body. It receives input from sensory organs and
sends outputs to the muscles. Brain consists of two types of tissue mainly white matter tissue (anisotropic) and
grey matter tissue (isotropic). Active examining of the brain functioning requires certain brain imaging techniques.
In order to solve this problem Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique was implemented for the imaging of
grey matter of the brain. In 1994Peter Baser introduced Diffusion Tensor Imaging(DTI), DTI is an advanced
variant of MRI which is being implemented for the imaging of white matter tissue of the brain. It uses present
MRI technology and no other equipment is required. DTI technique undergoes visualization of the random motion
of the water molecules in the white matter tissue of the brain. The random motion of the water molecules can
determine the anisotropic and isotropic nature of the white matter portion of the brain. The parameter of analysing
the isotropic and anisotropic range is the Fractional Anisotropy (FA). Here, three visualization techniques for DTI
namely Scalar Indices, Tensor Glyph, and Fibre Tractography are studied and analysed. The analysis focuses on
extracting useful information of the brain in different aspects. This can be useful in studying the internal patterns
of the brain which will help in medical diagnosis.

Abstract: Watermark is a pretty much straightforward picture or content added to a bit of paper or another picture
to secure uniqueness of the picture. Watermarking used to provide authentication by embedding data in various
area like image, video and audio. Watermark also used to hide the digital information in carrier signal. Digital
watermarking techniques are based on spatial and frequency domain. The proposed method uses DCT technique
of the frequency domain. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) of an image is a sum of sinusoidal of altering
frequency and magnitude. Here two-dimensional discrete cosine transform (DCT) of an image is computed using
dct2. In the proposed method text is inserted as watermark and from the watermarked image text is extracted.
PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) measures the image quality after watermarked. If the PSNR is high, then the
quality of image is good. The proposed method gives high PSNR, copyright protection and imperceptible
watermark to an image.

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to build a practical intrusion detection system for wireless sensor networks
which analyze the characteristics of traffic patterns and identify the intrusive activities in the network. It is to
show that the choice of efficient and fast decision tree paradigm for intrusion detection with optimal features
enhances the detection capability as well as saves energy, computation and memory of sensor networks. In
addition, various rule based decision tree classifiers like Alternating Decision Tree, Decision Stump, J48, Logical

4
Model Tree, Naive Bayes Tree and Fast Decision Tree learner have been compared with a family of Hoeffding
rule based decision tree which shows better and fast detection capability. The evaluation of the enhanced feature
space and the decision tree paradigm, on three different public dataset containing normal and anomalous data have
been performed for various Hoeffding as well as other decision tree algorithms. With this approach it is proved
that Hoeffding tree are best suited for online detection and handling of streaming sensor data with the efficient
usage of memory in a resource constraint environment like sensor networks.

Transcoding of Next Generation Distributed Video Codec for Mobile Video

Vijay Kumar Kodavalla VLSI Technology Practice Group, Product Engineering Services Wipro Technologies Bangalore,
India vijay.kodavalla@wipro.com

Abstract: Presently most popular and widely adopted video coding standards include MPEGx, H.26x, DivX,
AVSx and VPx. These standards are based on predictive video coding method, where encoder is designed to be
more complex (about 10x) than the decoder. These predictive video coding standards are suitable for existing
applications, including broadcast and video-ondemand. However, there are other evolving applications, including
wireless surveillance, multi-view, one-time-use video cameras and mobile video, which demands encoder
complexity being lower. This is in contrast to the existing video coding standards. To cater to these evolving
applications, “Distributed Video Coding” (DVC) has progressed as an inventive solution. The uniqueness of
distributed video coding solution is its deployment of channel coding methods into the source-coding problem, in
reducing encoder complexity, even at the expense of increase in complexity of the decoder. Nevertheless, for a
sub-set of evolving applications (for e.g., mobile video), both encoder and decoder need to be of lower complexity.
For this video conference application, even the DVC is also not suitable. This paper demonstrates a method for
achieving low complexity encoder and decoder from the end-user point of view, by using transcoding of DVC
and H.264 Advanced Video Codec (AVC) in the network. The elaborate research and proof-of-concept models
developed, over a period of several years, have become the basis for this paper.

Abstract: A modified bulk degeneration technique for source-degenerated OTAs is proposed in this paper. The
approach employs drain voltage division and cross-coupling the resultant voltage to the bulk terminal of
differential pair which reduces third harmonic distortion (HD3). Simulations are carried on 0.18 µm process with
1.8 V power supply which shows that HD3 is decreased by 14 dB (for frequencies of 100 KHz) as compared to
previously reported bulk degenerated transconductors. An added advantage is the variation of DC
transconductance using the resistance ratio of the voltage divider circuit which offers the tunability in the
transconductance.

Abstract: Water is one of the most essential nature’s gifts to the manhood and without water no one can imagine
their lives. Now man recognized the water significance, particularly where water is not easily available. Now this
is being achieved in an appropriate manner in city areas where the use of water is more than its availability. One
of the inspiration is to organize computing techniques in creating a barrier to wastage in order to, not only provide
more economic gains and energy saving, but also helps the environment and water cycle which in turn guarantees
that we save water for our future. There are several problems of electricity in rural area. Also the small towns are
incapable to use electricity based level sensors in small industries or domestic tanks. This paper describes the
design and implementation of water level sensor prototype without power supply. The sensor consists of low cost
materials. Hence sensor is cost effective, reliable and could be made easily available in rural area.

veenagadad@rvce.edu.in sowmyaranicn@rvce.edu.in

Abstract: In today’s world organizations outsource their data to cloud to enjoy number of advantages such as
location independent data storage, ubiquitous data access and on demand high quality service [1]. Data is collected
by many of independent sources as micro data and published for decision making, predictions and to improve
research. Outsourcing the data has an important side effect- the privacy of the individuals whose data are being
collected and analyzed is at risk. It becomes the responsibility of the data curator i.e., the cloud service provider
to preserve the privacy. Statistical Disclosure control or Statistical Disclosure Limitation seeks to alter the original
microdata so that the utility of original microdata and modified microdata are at least same. Microaggregation is
one of Statistical Disclosure Control methods used to protect the individual identification present in the microdata.
This method works by partitioning the microdata into groups called cluster of k records and then replaces the
record in each group with the centroid of the group. This paper defines microdata, provides the overview of various
existing microaggregation methods for Statistical Disclosure Control. The paper also provides a novel model of
microaggregation method in inter-cloud infrastructure.

Abstract: The convenience of using Android-based smartphones has made Android immensely popular. Until
now, Java dominated other Android App Development languages such as C# and Corona, while Kotlin seems to
be the future of Android App Development. Though Kotlin provides additional perks to Android app developers,
some loopholes still exist that provide a way for security threats to penetrate. One of the most common security
threats is App Repackaging. It is a dangerous and malicious attack which exploits the open-source platform. App
Repackaging can be minimized by Proguard, a multi-purpose code obfuscator. In this paper, we have implemented
prevention against App Repackaging using Proguard with Kotlin-developed Android app. It aims to assist android
app developers in securing their apps against App Repackaging attacks.

networks, which are connected to cloud computing. The fog computing computes, networks, compresses and
provides the security to the information so that only essential information is stored in the cloud server and it can
beeasilyaccessible to users. In this paper we are proposing a new concept inside the fogging. Instead of considering
the huge amount of sensory data into fog for computation, only the required amount of information is called for
computation and further process by the inclusion of context aware information classifier. The proposal further
enhances the features of fog computing along with further minimizing the latency issue by considering K-NN&
ID3 classifiers and making effective connectivity between sensors and clouds server.

Abstract: Quantum dots based supercapacitors created a dramatic improvement in energy storage system. Herein,
we reports a novel member of fluorescent supercapacitor has been fabricated from rhodamine b dye. In this work,
Potassium ferrocyanide doped in the polymeric rhodamine b nanodots which were directly grown at the surface
of graphite electrodes using cyclic voltammetry. Potassium ferrocyanide doped polymeric rhodamine b nanodots
enhanced the specific conductance (320.0 F/g), and better long term cycling stability which are 2 to 3 times higher
than individual polymeric rhodamine b nanodots as well as potassium ferrocyanide modified graphite electrodes.
Interestingly, the electrochemical activity of the fluorescent Potassium ferrocyanide doped in the polymeric
rhodamine b nanodots could be easily monitored by photoluminescence as well as voltammetric methods. These
unique features of proposed hybrid fluorescent nanodots makes it smart nanomaterial to enhance the performance
of supercapacitors. This organic-inorganic composite nanodots material based electrode shows a promising future

Abstract: Tire is an essential automotive component, since it plays an important role in safety, mobility, fuel
economy and ride comfort. Road irregularities causes deflection of carcass which is an internal layer of tire that
sustains load and absorbs shock. This causes tire to generate faulty input to the steering which reduces durability
of the automobile in the long run. In this project, MOEMS (Micro Opto-Electro Mechanical System) based sensor
associated with photonic crystal is developed to observe carcass deflection and to study its characteristics in order
to design a more efficient automobile. The MOEMS device functionality is achieved through micromechanical
sub-wavelength inward displacement of the dielectric slabs. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method
is used for analysis of the results with the help of MEEP software. Simulation results show that the displacement
occurring (of the dielectric slabs) will change the dimensions of the waveguide carved in the photonic crystal
having silicon as a substrate. As a result, this change in spacing alters the propagation virtue of electromagnetic
waves that run through them, due to periodic modulation of refractive index. Results show that distinct shift in
frequency with high quality factor of 37074.566 was obtained by displacing the inclined and vertical slab by
keeping horizontal slabs fixed.

Abstract: This paper analyzes the influence of disclosure of corporate social responsibility and environmental
measures on the stock prices of Indian corporate firms. Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) initiated
Business Responsibility Report (BRR) 2015-16 of top 100 Indian companies are the primary source of
information. The values of Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Compliance were regressed on Stock
Price performance controlling for EPS, PE Ratio and Sector classification. Our empirical study reveals that the
CSR and Environmental Compliance have a positive impact on the stock prices. Many theoretical and empirical
research has been conducted in other countries showing positive impact of these factors on stock prices. As Indian
economy is more integrated to the global market, it is pertinent to understand and examine this phenomenon in
Indian context. We do so in our research. Our analysis suggests that the Indian companies need to focus on
environmental and corporate social responsibility to optimize the stakeholder value. It is also important for
organizations to disclose more information through environmental reporting as well as CSR to better analyze the
causal relations.

Abstract: Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation or source localization by listening to the radiated acoustic signal
from the targets is of primal importance in underwater surveillance system. These systems, generally the sensor
array data vector is projected on a Complete Dictionary which is made up of a set of linearly independent basis
vectors. In this work, the notion of Over-Complete Dictionary (OCD) is built for underwater source localization
application. This is implemented by stacking multiple set of basis vectors. Each set of basis vectors are selected
keeping in mind the statistical properties of the signal. Ambient noise is also taken into consideration. Since these
techniques are to be operated under dynamically changing ocean scenario, the OCD implementation gives better
results in comparison with the conventional or adaptive beamforming techniques. As expected, the simulation
results also shows significant performance improvement with OCD. Also, it is observed that the accuracy and
bearing resolution improves as the dictionary size grows. The improved dictionary performance is demonstrated
by Monte-Carlo simulations for various ocean scenarios which shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Abstract: This paper presents a critical review of control strategies for switched reluctance motor employed in
electric vehicle. The survey is carried out on various control strategies namely average torque control,
instantaneous torque, torque sharing and direct instantaneous torque control. The purpose of the survey is to
identify the capability of control strategies in terms of speed and torque of SRM for electric vehicle application.
The preliminary observation from the study is that, SRM have high torque ripples and it is severe during
commutation between the adjacent phases. Further, it also leads to high acoustic noise, vibration and harshness of
the electric vehicle system. In view of this, there is need to develop an appropriate control method to overcome
the said problems of SRM drive employed in EVs.

A Novel ATM Security System using a User Defined Personal Identification Number
With the Aid of GSM Technology
Swathi H, Suraj Joshi, Kiran Kumar M.K.
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology Bangalore, India

Abstract: In contrast to the past, Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely used due to their simplicity and
extensive availability. Presently, ATM systems use no more than an access card which usually has a magnetic
stripe (magstripe) and a fixed Personal Identification Number (PIN) for identity verification. Some other cases
utilize a chip and a PIN which sometimes has a magstripe in case the chip fails as a backup for identification
purposes. This method is not very secure and prone to increase in criminal activities. The need for a novel, simple
as well as secure method of access is thus imperative. In the present work, a PIN is generated by the user and this
PIN is made available to the ATM system by the means of a Subscriber Identity Module(SIM) in the user’s Mobile
Phone. This information is communicated to a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) module
embedded into the ATM’s functional framework. This method of security is more stable than the traditional
methods presently in use. The method presented is dynamic due to the possibility of changing the User Defined
PIN(UDPIN) in each and every transaction. Losing the access card no longer becomes a big problem to the user
and the need for immediate deactivation is also eliminated. It can also be enhanced by including other security
features without large number of modifications. A simple prototype employing this security function has been
implemented and the results are verified.

Abstract: Stock Exchange price prediction is the task of estimating future price of certain stock listed in stock
exchange by extracting the trend with the help of confidence learned from historical training data. In this research
work, the data set has been created by extracting raw data from Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) website. Data
pre-processing is performed in order compute an accurate result. The data belonging to promoter share and
unwanted feature are eliminated from considered data. The resulting data are normalized for better performance,
before applying the machine learning methods. Min-Max and Z-score normalization are used for this purpose.
Overall stock data are further divided into ten different sector of investment for sectorwise analysis. Support
Vector Regression (SVR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are applied in order to predict stock price for a
next day. In order to measure the performance of two learning models, mean square error (MSE), mean absolute
error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and Coefficient of Determination (R2) are used. The result shows
that SVR with min max normalization is performing better than ANN in all sectors except on Development bank,
Finance, and Mutual Fund.

Abstract: In communication systems, distortion and noise are the main reason to decrease the reliability of the
system, these distortions occurs because of the hardware deficiencies. In Wireless ad-hoc network, connectivity
and coverage area the two biggest issues. Therefore, this paper gives the practical analysis of the hardware
deficiencies on hoping transmission, which amplifies and sends the better signal for the static and dynamic gain
of the nodes and determine the localization of isolation nodes, improve connectivity and coverage area by reducing
‘nakagami-m’ fading . The outage possibility obtained in practical is by the signal to noise with the distortion
noise, where these achieves the hardware deficiencies in the initial node and the relay node. In the same way, we
consider the ergodic capability, in which hops are not dependent but it also assigns the ‘Nakagami-m’ fading
effect in the communication system. In this, the SNR and the signal to noise with distortion is more, which are
continuous, where these are inversely proportional for the amount of hardware deficiencies. Theoretical
transceivers will not satisfy the requirements in practically therefore in this paper, we provide some of the basic

10
rules which is very helpful for the better communication in practical manner while focusing on ‘Nakagami-m’
fading effect in improving connectivity and coverage are in wireless ad-hoc networks.

Abstract: Cellular automaton are tremendously utilized for their spatial and characteristically dynamic structure
and detailed resolution. They outperform other models in representing practical methods of illumination. Formal
Cellular Automaton is based on straightforward standard. The dynamics rely upon the state of the cell (on/off)
and the state of neighbouring cells. Traditional Cellular Automata can deliver various elements, surprisingly
diverse dynamics, including self-replicable structures. The aim of the proposed work to use Cellular Automata is
to provide a simulation on optimal illumination for LED based lighting system based on the round robin transition
scheme where state of each LED is governed by its neighbouring LED states in a way which optimizes the
consumption of electricity without compromising much on the illumination.

Abstract: Wireless data traffic is expected to increase 10000 fold in next 20 years. To meet this ever-increasing
demand of increased wireless traffic, the fifth-generation (5G) cellular systems are getting prepared to be deployed
by 2020. 5G cellular systems are most likely to operate in millimetre wave (mm-wave) frequency bands.
Communication at mm-wave is setting a new era of wireless communication. The mm-wave frequencies offer
higher bandwidth channels up to 2 GHz. Signal processing techniques are critical for implementing in the next
generation mm-wave communication systems. Millimetre wave technology enables the use of large antenna arrays
at the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx). Along with high operating frequency and mixed signal power constraints,
incipient multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication signal processing methods are essential. Due to
large bandwidths, designing low complexity transceiver algorithms becomes critical. Millimetre wave technique
provides enough opportunities to utilize the signal processing techniques such as compressed sensing technique
in channel estimation and beamforming (BF). This article presents an overview of efficacious signal processing
methods and challenges in using mm-wave technique, with an incremented fixate on MIMO technology in
achieving larger data rates and issues with limited availability of frequency spectrum. There is an immense interest
in mm-wave BF predicated for 5G networks. An important aspect in mm-wave communications is to exploit the
increased number of deployable antennas at both Tx and Rx to combat high path loss, to tackle increased
interference due to higher user density and to tackle multipath effects in frequency selective channels.

Abstract: This paper focusses on comparison of the performance of Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna(CMPA)
in S-band between soil and CMPA with RT/Duroid 5880 as substrate. Normally RT/Duroid 5880 is used in
fabrication of MPAs due to its low electrical loss, low dielectric loss, low moisture absorption etc. But, it is costly.
This work tries to prove that soil substrate can replace RT/Duroid 5880 by illustrating effect of minimal change
in dielectric constant on key parameters such as gain, bandwidth and VSWR. The simulation is carried out in
Computational Electromagnetic Software FEKO (suite 7.0). The paper concludes by stating that soil substrate
being economical can be a potential candidate to replace RT/Duroid 5880 as there is very little to minimal change
in key parameters such as bandwidth (a difference of 14.07 MHz), gain (a difference of 0.18 dBi) and directivity
(a difference of 0.41 dBi).

Abstract: As the E-commerce sites hit the markets, customers started purchasing most of the products from online
shopping sites like Amazon, Flipkart, Shopclues, Snapdeal etc. Further, customers started writing the review about
the products they purchased which helped other customers to choose a product to buy. Many of the customers
purchase products based on the product ratings and the user reviews. For the big companies, the number of reviews
could be in the thousands. So it is almost impossible for customers to read these reviews manually and choose the
product based on the reviews. Many techniques have been proposed to classify the product based on the reviews
given, an approach to use the sentiment exhibited by the customer who bought the product. Aspect based sentiment
analysis is one among them which has two types within namely implicit and explicit aspect-based analysis. Most
of the researches are performed based on the explicit aspect, only few works are performed based on the implicit
aspects. This paper provides the survey on different methods introduced to classify the reviews based on the
implicit aspects present in the reviews.

Lakshmi H R Dept. of ECE K S Institute of Technology, hrl.lakshmi@gmail.com

Abstract: The ever-growing human population is imposing a strong demand and pressure on the environment for
sustenance. This growth spurt has resulted in a steady increase in the amount of waste being disposed daily. in
most of the developing countries, segregation and timely collection of waste is a major challenge. Due to
inefficient waste segregation, a large amount of recyclable content goes waste. The waste, if not separated
properly, gets mixed up and may eventually leak resulting in toxicity and may contaminate the groundwater table
through poisonous methane gas. In this paper, we present SmartBin, a bin that can segregate waste at source with
no human intervention and can automatically alert the waste collection centre when the bin is full. SmartBin will
help solve the waste segregation problem and help build a greener society, with no compromise on health and
hygiene.

Abstract: Pan sharpening technique is a widely used image processing technique which combines the data
available from various sensors and exploit its varied capabilities. In this study the efficiency of four diverse pan
sharpening methods namely High Pass filter, Modified Intensity Hue Saturation, Ehlers fusion and Hyperspectral
Colour Sharpening was evaluated. The pan sharpening approaches are applied to Landsat 8 imagery of an urban
area. The spatial and spectral quality of the fused images are assessed using different indices like Bias, RMSE,
Correlation Coefficient and ERGAS. The fused images obtained have improved spatial resolution and visual
appearance compared to the original MS image. The fused images have spatial resolution comparable to that of
the PAN image. According to visual analysis Modified IHS method yielded fused image with better visual
interpretability. The statistical analysis shows that high pass filter is the most suitable pan sharpening method for
this dataset. On testing for Bias, RMSE, ERGAS and CC, the high pass filter method performed best followed by
Modified Intensity Hue saturation, Ehlers fusion and Hyperspectral Colour Sharpening. While Ehlers fusion
showed a higher correlation, compared to Modified IHS.

Abstract: Chessboard crypt-algorithm is an algorithm to encrypt N-bit binary data using a key of size N. It
provides unique mappings for each key and scrambles the sequence using an approach similar to the movement
of the Queen on the chessboard. An important property is that the function for encryption and decryption is the
same- and not inverse as in typical crypt-algorithms. The number of combinations that can be generated is large
and therefore to an extent, it protects against the brute force approach.

Abstract: The objective is to design a algorithm to generate key depended Substitution Boxes for Symmetric
Encryption. This paper describes an effective and innovative way of generating substitution boxes which are key
dependent. The proposed algorithm uses Elliptic Curve Cryptography to generate dynamic S-Boxes. The S-
Boxes generated are tested against the four different criteria called Bijection, Strict Avalanche Effect (SAE),
Non-linearity and Bit-Independence. It is implemented in C++ using Multi-precision Integer and Rational
Arithmetic Cryptographic Library (MIRACL) and the experimental results shows that it takes very
less computation time. The proposed algorithm can be used in PRESENT cipher to generate dynamic key

Abstract: Modern trend for isolated multi output SMPS design for any industrial application is by using a flyback
converter topology. But this topology yields low efficiency because of losses in the transformer due to offset
current. This is the major concern in using a flyback based SMPS for industrial applications. On the other hand,
a forward converter has low offset current compared to flyback converter due to the operation of this converter in
boundary condition. Thus the issue of low efficiency in multi output flyback converter is solved by developing a
forward-flyback converter for multi-output application. In this paper a detailed analysis of forward flyback
converter is explained. Finally design calculations using the derived expressions and then simulation in
MATLAB/Simulink for multi-output forward-flyback converter is carried out. Then the power conversion
efficiency of conventional flyback and proposed converter for Multi-Output application is compared and the
superiority of the proposed converter is highlighted.

Abstract: Crawling web applications is important for indexing websites as well as for testing vulnerabilities
present in the website. The research area of crawling traditional websites has made significant progress and many
software suites are available which can carry deep crawls of large traditional websites in limited time. The modern
AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML) based websites, however, cannot be crawled by traditional crawlers.
The area is open to research and many open-source software suites are being developed. However, the software
suites developed so far still face the issues of state space explosion, poor time efficiency and incomplete content
coverage. This research work aims to develop a distributed component-based crawler for deterministic AJAX
applications to reduce state space explosion, improve time efficiency and provide complete content coverage. It
uses a combination of multiple approaches to develop the solution. Firstly, it takes into account a Component-
Based approach to reduce state space explosion. It then takes a Distributed-Crawling approach to process the
events concurrently in order to improve efficiency. It employs a Breadth First Search (BFS) strategy to provide
complete content coverage.

Abstract: The low power successive Approximation Analog to Digital converter (SA-ADC) is widely used in
several applications mainly in bio-medical. In this paper, the performance of the 14 bit SAR–ADC
analysed through obtaining the power consumption by adopting the two split capacitive array DAC method. In
addition to this, the area utilization and delay performance of two split DAC is also derived. The proposed two
split capacitive array DAC with multiplexer switching, consumes the power of 12uW. So totally 190 times
of power is reduced by the proposed method in comparison with conventional single split capacitive array DAC.
Also, this design requires 185-unit capacitances whereas the conventional design utilizes 256 unit capacitances in
a capacitive array, thereby reducing the area of CDAC by 28%. In addition to this, the delay performance of
the design also analysed. Here design is made fully differential, hence the noise parameter is
considerably reduced. Behavioural simulations were performed to check the effectiveness of design in each stage.

Abstract: There has been a paradigm shift in incorporation of wind energy into the conventional grid. The power
electronic interface decoupling the inertial response in the event of contingency is a challenging issue. In this
paper a control loop based upon linearized delta torque model DFIG system is incorporated in a pragmatic two
area power system including steam reheat constraints and governor dead band nonlinearity. From the exhaustive
simulation studies carried out in MATLAB Simulink Environment it is found that there is 93% reduction in peak
frequency deviation and 75% decrease in tie power deviation, thus improving the reliability of power system
considerably.

Abstract: Internet of things (IoT) is a system of physical objects that can be connected to the Internet. Web of
things (WoT) is a specialization of internet of things that simplifies the creation of IoT applications. Numerous
DIY (Do It Yourself) kits for IoT based on Raspberry Pi and Arduino boards are available. In our work, we try to
implement an automated building monitoring system that gives an idea about nature of cracks in buildings.
Different types of crack monitoring methods are available nowadays. Some of these methods are Monitoring
Cracks Using Tape and Pencil, Glass and Epoxy, and paper. All these methods are mechanical and requires a
human operator for taking measurements. We propose an automated method which requires human intervention
only during installation and disassembly of system. Also we propose to use WoT (Web of Things) architecture
for our solution which uses web protocols to dashboard the readings from our system. WoT enables our solution
to be accessible through web browser, mobile apps and other Web based front ends facilitating a user friendly
interface.

Abstract: In the super furnished and exceptionally propelled universe of innovation, there exists a need to design
and proffer the fitful necessities of the heads with minimum specialist co-op association. This was visualized
shapelessly in "CLOUD COMPUTING". Security is the super prominent immersion factor while entrusting an
association's basic data to topographically scattered cloud stages not under the immediate control of that
association. In such situations, it is imperative to build up an invention that gives coordinated control along
abnormal state of security. Information is vital for the functioning of an organization and therefore needs to be
secure. To mitigate the risks of hyper jacking in a hypervisor, various new ideas are being developed. Our

17
proposed solution persists of a two-layer security set architecture that barricades, tracks and reciprocates when it
senses hyper jacking. The two layers in the architecture are the Prevention phase that is further classified into
Authentication and Encryption/Decryption phases and the Detection Phase which includes Detection followed by
Responding using Honeyd. In the primary layer of Prevention the data to be stocked is authenticated using
Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol and later encrypted/decrypted using Advanced Encryption
Standards using Rijndael Ciphers for secure storage. Though this provides exhaustive security, considering the
chances of the prevention phase failure, the next phase of detection and responding by using Honeyd (Honeypot)
is implemented. This phase simulates the features which resembles an operating system and handles external
penetration and interacts with the malicious user as a host itself. Thus the system could be camouflaged by
monitoring and alerting the users about the possible network intrusions to enhance its security, apart from
protecting the data.

Abstract: A contextual care protocol is used by a medical practitioner for patient healthcare, given the context or
situation that the specified patient is in. This paper proposes a method to build an automated self-adapting protocol
which can help make relevant, early decisions for effective healthcare delivery. The hybrid model leverages neural
networks and decision trees. Neural network estimates the chances of each disease and each tree in the decision
trees represents care protocol for a disease. These trees are subject to change in case of aberrations found by the
diagnosticians. These corrections or prediction errors are clustered into similar groups for scalability and review
by the experts. The corrections as suggested by the experts are incorporated to the model.

Abstract: WSN is a well-organized system for transferring the similar data to several receivers. In sensor
networks, multi-casting is an essential operation, which performs using base station. Multi-casting helps to
transmit the similar data to several destination nodes. While routing the packets in multi-hop methodology, some
intermediate nodes are also utilized for forwarding the packets. In sensor network, developing an effective multi-
cast routing is a critical task. In order to overcome these issues, an effective clustering approach k-means is
implemented in the WSNs. For the simulation purposes, we have implemented our proposed approach on the
Multicast Optimized Link State Routing (MOLSR) protocol, which has been selected as best routing protocol.
Experimental outcome confirms that the advanced technique shows a significant result by means of throughput,
Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), etc.

Abstract: With convergence of digital technology and smart devices, monitoring and tracking data in real time
become true. Given the invention of many health vital sensors and activity tracking devices, dynamically measure
and monitoring of vital health parameters become easy. The sensors and devices uses numerous protocols and
communication methods for transmitting the data. In a conventional setup, it is difficult to connect multiple
devices with different proprietary applications and monitor. Moreover, it is cumbersome to control multiple
devices and store, analyses all the vitals parameter data. There is no common platform or frameworks available
to connect the multiple health sensors and to monitor the vitals simultaneously. This paper proposes the
comprehensive, scalable, plug and play smart health gateway for connecting variety of health sensors and allows
the devices seamless communication for transmit and control. With IoT enabled, the framework seamlessly
connects with cloud services and stream the data for storage, analysis and prediction. The proposed unified
framework is not only an efficient building block for connecting many health sensors but also enable seamless
connectivity between gateway and cloud platform and services.

Abstract: Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology is an emerging technology which promises to offer
high data rate, last mile solution, ubiquitous communications, and relief to the most congested radio frequency
(RF) system. Recently VLC has drawn the attention of researchers around the globe and they are still exploring
the applications and services which can be offered by this technology. In this work, a conceptual architecture of
hybrid technology that is VLC with RF is presented and discussed for vehicular environment. The idea is to
provide relief to RF spectrum by using downlink signal with VLC technology and uplink transmission using RF.
This RF could be a cellular system and/or wireless local area networks (WLAN) working as road side unit (RSU).
Analysis is presented to show the VLC system would offer ubiquitous communication on road throughout the
driving while illuminating road for the safe drive. Through simulation results, it is shown that the system offers
high data rate in the downlink. However, for the uplink, road side units from RF technology based system offer
the access to data services.

Abstract: In the present work, we study the performance of a cooperative spectrum sensing network (CSSN)
based on energy detection technique in presence of noise and Lognormal shadowing (LNS). All the cognitive
radio (CR) nodes use identical energy detectors (EDs), sense a primary user (PU), and report the sensed data in
the form of binary-decision to the fusion center (FC). The wireless links between CR nodes and PU are considered
as erroneous sensing (S) channels whereas links connecting from CR nodes to the FC are erroneous reporting (R)
channels. Various hard-decision fusion rules are performed at FC to make a final decision on the status of the PU
(either active or inactive). The analytical frameworks subject to noise and LNS fading, for evaluating missed
detection and total error rate (TER) performances, for all the system and channel conditions are developed.
Through computer simulations, developed analytical frameworks are validated. Further, the CSSN performance
for different network parameters such as channel error probability, LNS parameter, number of samples, average
S-channel signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), number of CR nodes, under various fusion rules is investigated. Finally,
an optimal number of CR nodes for different fusion rules are also indicated

Abstract: In this paper, a new method for the synthesis of unequally spaced linear antenna (USLA) arrays, which
provides very low peak side lobe level (PSLL) along with narrow and highly directive main beam for a given
aperture size is proposed. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is employed to determine optimum arrangement of
inter-element spacing which simulate required current distribution on the aperture corresponding to lowest
possible PSLL. Uniform amplitude excitation and definite inter-element spacings range of 0.5λ - 1.5λ are assumed
in this study. Performance of proposed method is evaluated by the numerical analysis of a 36- element USLA
array. Furthermore, electromagnetic (EM) simulation study is done using a normal rectangular patch element in
CST microwave studio software. The numerically computed results show considerable melioration in terms of
reduction in PSLL as compared with the results obtained using methods available in literature.

Abstract: The world is reporting the percentage of the heart diseases at the peak, and the physicians aim at the
effective diagnosis steps. Arrhythmia classification is the effective measure that tackles the ill effects of
arrhythmia heart disease. This work develops an arrhythmia classification system by employing the Probabilistic
Principal Component Analysis (PPCA) model. The features, such as wavelet features, Gabor transform, and
Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) features are extracted from the ECG signal, but the extracted features have high
dimension, and thus, when employed for training, it increases the complexity. Hence, this work utilizes the PPCA
for reducing the dimension of the features, and finally, the reduced features are provided to the classifier, named
Genetic-Bat Support Vector Neural Network (GB-SVNN), which is trained using Genetic-Bat (GB) algorithm,
for the arrhythmia detection. The experimentation of the proposed PPCA based GB-SVNN is done using the
standard dataset and evaluated based on the metrics, such as sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. The simulation
results of the proposed PPCA based GB-SVNN suggest that the technique has better performance with the values
of 0.969, 0.994, and 0.97 for accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity respectively.

Abstract: The unmanned aerial vehicles or drones are gaining popularity because of increased demand for less
human intervention in the automotive sector. Customer driven markets are encouraging the unmanned vehicles
oriented industries to innovate towards the average user level. Despite the improvements in the parameters like
cost, user friendliness and technological capabilities people hesitate to work with the unmanned vehicle
technology and the major reason for this would be the vehicles behavior in the known and unknown environments,
the unavoidable obstacles on the path of travel or the doubt on risk factor associated with the collision avoidance
system. So this paper presents the various techniques used in the smooth navigation and collision/obstacle
avoidance system over past years.

Abstract: CPU-GPU accelerator based heterogeneous cloud computing systems can give enhanced energy
efficiency and performance. Both energy efficiency and performance parameters are the vital factors in achieving
High Performance Computing (HPC). To completely understand the strength of heterogeneous cloud computing
architectures, software must efficiently use CPU-GPU processing and their power conserving capabilities.
Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) technique can be used to enable power conserving capabilities
of CPU-GPU core architectures. Therefore, to distribute task load between host CPUs and GPU accelerators and
reduce energy consumption, here, we have introduced a Heterogeneous Dynamic Scheduling Minimized Make-
span (HDSMM) using CPU-GPU cores for heterogeneous cloud computing devices. Here, DVFS technique is
distributed into CPU-DVFS and GPU-DVFS, for efficient resource utilization and to exploit power conserving
features. Our proposed HDSMM model presents precise modeling for performance and energy efficiency
distribution and finest frequency to achieve either best performance or lowest power consumption. Experimental
results verifies the superiority of our proposed HDSMM model in terms of energy consumption, average execution
time and average power for scientific benchmark Montage.

Abstract: In this paper, a cooperative spectrum sensing system (CSSS) based on energy detection method and
hard-decision fusion is proposed. The performance through complementary receiver operating characteristics
(CROC), total error rate (TER), and throughput is analytically investigated under the influence of noise and
generalized kappa-mu fading. More precisely, each cognitive radio (CR) senses the PU through erroneous sensing
(S) channels and reports the sensing information in the form of binary-decision obtained sing energy detector (ED)
to fusion centre (FC) through erroneous reporting (R) channels. Next, the hard-decision is performed at FC to
obtain a global decision on the status (active or inactive) of the PU. Towards that, we derive novel-analytic
expression of detection probability subject to noise and kappa-mu fading is derived.
The analytical frame works based on derived expression for evaluating TER and throughput performance for any
network and channel conditions are developed. Further, the CSSS performance for different network parameters
such as channel error probability, time-bandwidth product, signal to noise ratio (SNR), number of CRs, detection
threshold under various fusion rules is investigated. Finally, an optimal detection threshold, an optimal number of
CRs, and maximum threshold for several network parameters subject fusion rule is also determined.

Abstract: Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) envisioned as battlefield application of wireless networks build
cooperation in a multi-hop fashion between limited powered mobile nodes to prove inter-communication with one
another. In self-configuring and self-organizing nature MANETs, designing adaptive protocols is a great
challenge. Remarkably flexible natured bio-inspired algorithms and new design approach of cross layer
interactions meet the needs of adaptability in MANET’s protocols. The adaptable protocol’s performance depends
on accuracy of calculation and acquisition of network conditions. This paper proposes ant based technique to
estimate the network conditions. Cross layer interactions enable optimization in end-to-end delay using network
conditions like node density and traffic intensity parameters. Simulation study shows that adaptive management
of protocols in MANETs has improved performance even at high data transmission rates, and for larger number
of nodes.

Abstract: Internet is considered as the worldwide system of many computer and their networks which are linked
together by wired or wireless networks. Network is based on Internet Protocol Suite which has a model known as
TCP/IP and a set of protocols. Model consists of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP)
as major protocols at transport and network layer respectively. TCP deals with end to end transmission and
reassembly of packets. It also focuses on reliable and orderly transmission of packets. There are many TCP
variants are used in communication, such as Reno, Bic, and Vegas. TCP poses many issues like end to end delay,
connection management between source starting and receiver’s end point and congestion
in network. Congestion being one of the important issues affects the Quality of Service of network and reduces
overall network performance because of buffering of data in queue. Different Queue management algorithms
which handle congestion are RED, FIFO Fast, CoDel. These algorithms efficiently drop the packets when the
buffers gets full or when it is near to full based on packet drop signal or other mechanisms. The proposed work
considers the study of different TCP and AQM variants for effective congestion control. Comparative study is
conducted by considering selected TCP variant along with different AQM techniques. It reveals that TCP Bic
along with FIFO fast provides less latency, high throughput and minimum packet drops. Paper discusses about
the importance of the right choice of TCP and AQM variant and parameters needed for the network and
results have been obtained by practical setup using netperf traffic generator.

Abstract: A transmultiplexer (TMUX) is a system which allow various users to share a common channel. A
TMUX system capable of handling users belonging to different communication standards is called as a multi-
mode TMUX. A method for implementation of such a TMUX of variable nature using fixed minimum hardware
units is presented in this paper. The hardware reduction is achieved in two ways. First is by implementing variable
bandwidth filters in the filter bank of TMUX using fixed filters and the other is by representing the filter
coefficients in canonic signed digit (CSD) representation. The CSD representation is obtained by rounding the
maximum precision coefficients to the finite precision coefficients with a limited number of signed power of two
terms.

Abstract: In the new era of Internet of Things (IOT) where 50 billion devices are projected to be linked to the
internet, different challenges like system integration, low power design, security are imposed on the
semiconductor industry. The rapid increase in the demand for battery-operated IOT devices and the scaling of
Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) devices has gained the attention of ultra-low power design
approaches. Most IOT devices are active for a short amount of time and are in sleep or standby mode for a long
time. Systems require different power levels as they combine Intellectual Property from analog, digital and mixed
signal vendors thereby necessitating efficient power management circuits. This paper reviews different power
converters and energy harvesting systems with low power architectures and circuit level optimizations.

Abstract: It has been observed very critically in the hardware that robust Trojans are inserted in outsourced
products resulting in security vulnerabilities. It is more important to note that some areas are in need to be more
reliable and trust worthy with respect to security. A perpetrator in any possible location could alter the circuit
behavior by including an unintended module in the circuit which can be very hard or impossible to detect until
triggered. In this paper, a self-referencing approach is proposed that measures the leakage power of the circuit at
different time windows. This approach can efficiently and reliably detect the leakage power that the Trojan creates
and also avoids the requirement of golden chip by mapping a chip's leakage power at different time window. The
proposed method is also formulated using compressive sensing algorithm for selecting Trojan revealing test
vectors and compresses the chip output. The proposed method is validated on ISCAS’85 benchmark circuits, in
which 82% reduction in the output dimensions for the leakage power measurement is achieved for a compression
ratio of 0.75.

Abstract: In recent days, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), provides the ability to integrate multiple tasks
through the parallel operations. This processor is preferred over DSP for the implementation of controller to
control speed of induction motor through power converter employed in industrial applications. This paper presents
the implementation of FPGA based closed loop V/F speed control of induction motor. The existing approaches
having the limitations of regulating slip and conversion of frequency in proportion to the slip. This issue can be
addressed by summing the slip with actual speed during conversion of speed into frequency. Further, this paper
focuses on the development of the PI controller using Xilinx block sets to improve the tracking ability of the
controller. The developed controller is validated on hardware test bench consisting of FPGA based controller

Abstract: Usage of two separate Positive and Negative voltage level shifter on the System-on-chip, increase the
area and the complexity of the circuit. In the conventional circuit of both type of level shifter contention of crowbar
current is present. That will affect the performance parameter like propagation delay due to slow switching and
increase in power dissipation due to leakage current. To avoid the separate use of the circuit and effective
performance of the circuit we have proposed the generic voltage level shifter design. This design will be able to
produce both the output simultaneously. The propagation delay is observed 12.18ns and 12.82ns for positive and
negative voltage shifter respectively. The Dynamic Power Dissipation has been observed 8.25 μW for 1.2V at
0.5MHz frequency. The simulation has been done in Cadence using 45nm gpdk.

Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India

Abstract: India is one of the fastest developing countries in the world. One of the disadvantages of this
unprecedented growth is the ineffective traffic management. Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) is a form of bi-directional
Visible Light Communication (VLC) in which light is modulated at speeds greater than a human eye can follow.
Li-Fi can be used to implement Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication as it has many advantages over other
communication protocols. One of the main advantages of Li-Fi is that it provides connectivity within a very large
area with more security and higher data rates. Emergency vehicles such as Ambulances, Firefighting trucks, Police
vehicles etc. can propagate faster through traffic-dense roads using Li-Fi based V2V communication system. In
this paper, a V2V communication system is proposed in which the headlight and tail light of a vehicle are made
as Li-Fi transmitter and Li-Fi receiver respectively. Using the proposed system, when a traffic signal receives an
alert regarding an emergency vehicle, the traffic signal would immediately turn green. Thus, decreasing the
waiting time of emergency vehicles in traffic-dense lanes. The proposed system was designed, implemented and
tested for its operation.sted for its operation.

Abstract: The toll collection is becoming a major problem on the highways leading to large waiting queues.
Nowadays, most of the toll gates are being operated manually which is leading to increase in the waiting time and
fuel usage. In this paper, a study on Automated Toll Collection System using Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) is presented which provides fast identification of vehicles and toll collection. Using this system, the toll
collection is possible in a few seconds as the vehicle is not required to be stopped. The identification can be done
just by slowing down the speed of the vehicle when it is passing from the toll plaza. The RFID reader scans the
RFID tag and deducts the amount from the tag. The amount can be deducted from the RFID card. The card can
be recharged at the toll plaza whenever needed.

Bengaluru, INDIA. Email: maheshkumar@gmail.com

Abstract: The multilevel converter is capable of achieving higher power by using a series of power switches with
several low voltage DC sources to perform power conversion by synthesizing a staircase voltage waveform. In
the field of power electronics the multilevel inverter permits to reach higher voltages with low harmonics content.
Rise in the number of levels, the harmonic level of output voltage will fall gradually. In this paper a three phase
9 level cascaded multilevel inverter is been simulated with minimum switching devices and gate circuitry. The
classical three phase MLI utilizes 48 switches whereas the minimum circuit utilizes 33 switches thus eliminating
15 switches in the usage. The output is been verified by extracting gate signals from various control techniques
like SPWM POD, Harmonic Injected, Trapezoidal & Triangular Modulation. The analysis and comparison is done
with THD, and least THD is been found with triangular modulation with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK tool.

Typologies and Regulations for Shared Economies in India: A Review

Deepika M. G. Department of Management, Amrita University, Bangalore, India mgdeepika@gmail.com
Deepshikha Rai, Amrita University, Bangalore, India deepshikha.rai2014@gmail.com

Abstract: Unlike the traditional market model, where the exchange of goods and services rests upon ownership
of commodities, the shared economy model lies on the principle of providing access to resources. While these
firms come in with an advantage of bringing in significant benefits to the society, there are regulatory and
transitionary challenges associated with the emergence of such new economies. The paper which is a review based
study, tries to examine the typologies of shared economies and their operating models. The paper also explores
the regulatory issues faced by the governments in arriving at suitable policies on governing and monitoring these
newly emerging economies. While this area of study is new, not much research has been carried out empirically,
given the limitations of access to data. Though challenging, it would be interesting to analyse the benefits and
costs of such economies to the society, the pricing strategies adopted by the sharing platforms, the nature of
competition among the platform providers, the trust building mechanisms and the technological innovations
needed to arrive at P2P digital platforms without the role of aggregators.

Abstract: Detection and recognition of text from natural images is very important for extracting information from
images but is an extensively challenging task. This paper proposes an approach for detection of text area from
natural scene images using Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER) and recognizing the text using a self-
trained Neural Network. Some preprocessing is applied to the image then MSER and canny edge is used to locate
the smaller areas that may more likely contain text. The text is individually isolated as single characters by simple
algorithms on the binary image and then passed through the recognition model specially designed for hazy and
unaligned characters.

Abstract: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging is a non-invasive medical imaging technique used widely for
diagnosis. The data collected by MRI scanner is placed in the k-space. Various algorithms are developed to sample
the k-space and reconstruct the image from the compressive sampled k-space data. The k–space sampling pattern
plays an important role in optimizing compressed sensing magnetic resonance imaging. CS technique violates the
Nyquist’s sampling theory by sampling signals at lower rate than conventional sampling rate. CS can reduce
scanning time in MRI applications by acquiring very few samples. This paper analyses the Cartesian variable
density k-space data sampling pattern with the radial sampling scheme. Qualitative and quantitative analysis are
performed on the reconstructed MR Image for different sampling percentages.

School of Electronics and Communication K. L. E Technological University Hubballi, India
mangolitaskeen786@gmail.com, sujata_c@bvb.edu, uma@bvb.edu

Abstract: In this paper, we proposed an anomaly detection technique MD that detect anomaly in crowded scenes
where the traditional tracking based approaches tends to fail. MD follows supervised learning approach that
requires training of the model with labelled data. Initially input frames are divided into cells of size 10x10x5
pixels and are then subjected to foreground segmentation that confines analysis to foreground pixels only. Low
level features such as motion and direction are extracted and analysed independently to detect anomalies, hence
we refer the name of method as MD (Motion and Direction). We compared our proposed method with the three
recent approaches: SF, MPPCA, Adam et al. and demonstrate that we obtain better results than these methods.
MDT outperforms all the methods, but it requires more computation time to analyse entire frame and it is difficult
to infer the nature of anomaly as it is a joint model of motion and appearance. Whereas, independent analysis by
the proposed method MD infers the nature of anomaly and keeps the computation faster as cells are of very small
size compared to frames.

Abstract: Large dimension data of Hyperspectral Image (HSI) leads to high computation cost, more execution
time and increase the memory demand; therefore, difficulty arises during the classification of HSI. Unsupervised-
BSA (band selection algorithm) using linear projection (LP) dependent band metric similarity has considered for
informatics band selection of HSI. However, space complexity and time constrain is very big challenge for many
feature algorithm. In this paper, we will use monogenetic binary feature (MBF) to get the local and monogenic
feature from each pixel. The extracted feature from the combined monogenetic parameter will be used for effective
classification process. In post processing, the classification of extracted feature from the MBF is perform by the
Neural Network (NN) and to provide an enhanced generalization ability we introduce a kernel based NN, and
considering the unknown feature mapping. To validate the performance of proposed hyperspectral classification
algorithm, we will compared with several state-of-the-art.

Abstract: Most of the new generation mobile phones are equipped with smart and unique features that provide a
great experience in music, internet, capturing videos and many more applications, but the same experience is not
achieved in voice communication when the surrounding environment is too noisy. Hence development of
algorithms for processing complex voice is very much essential for speedy and correct estimation of speech
signals. This skill, demand for processing of voice signal digitally for feature extraction and remove the undesired
noise sources. In this paper the degraded signal is preprocessed and Sub-band filtering signal is processed, using
Mel filter bank further by using Mel frequency Cepstral coefficients, feature extraction is carried out. Since the
voice signals tend to have variation in temporal rate, adaptive equalization is used for feature matching techniques.
The test pattern in this paper presents an improvement in speech index by a factor of 20-30%.

Abstract: The Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN) is a special class of Wireless Sensor Network
(WSN), which is basically deployed inside water bodies for performing the required sensing tasks. Unlike WSN,
identifying the location information of the dierent sensor nodes is a challenging task, mainly due to the signal
problems associated with the water medium. Node Localization refers to identifying or estimating the location co-
ordinates of the required sensor nodes. Many elective node localization techniques have been proposed in the
literature. A new challenge has emerged related to security of the node localization technique, wherein, intruder
or compromised sensor nodes provide faulty information for the node localization process. This specialized attack
can result in improper node localization and may result in network disconnection. Currently, elective solution to
address this problem in the literature is still lacking. In this work, a secure localization framework based on
probabilistic model is presented. This proposed localization framework, substantially outperforms the
contemporary framework in-terms of security electiveness when demonstrated empirically.

Abstract: Node localization enabled wireless sensor network has gained immense popularity in real time due to
its faster execution, high coverage area, performance and connectivity. It can achieve the primary objectives such
as high connectivity and coverage area in wireless sensor networks. To completely exploit the wireless sensor
networks, it is very essential to achieve a high connectivity between sensor nodes and gateways of sensor
networks. Therefore, here, we have introduced a novel Local Isolated Node Localization in Wireless Sensor
Networks based on probability analysis to locate the isolate node probability precisely, enhance connectivity
between nodes and improve coverage area and scalability. A Local collaborative pair method is introduced for
isolated node recognition and ensure high connectivity. Experimental results verifies superiority of our proposed
Isolated Node Localization model in terms of distance between sensor nodes, high connectivity and coverage area,
identification of isolated sensor node location when networks are coinciding with each other at the boundaries and
it also consider channel randomness while searching for connectivity between nodes.

Abstract: The usage of smart phones by Indian students is tremendously growing at faster pace. To cope with the
high-end demand, mobile manufacturers have to make rational decisions regarding the market expansion and
quality improvement. To aid such critical decision, in this paper, a new scientific decision framework called SPMS
is (smart phone manufacturer selector) presented. The SPMS consist of three stages viz., data acquisition and pre-
processing stage, data fusion and criteria weighting stage and selection/ranking stage. The data is collected from
questionnaires which are completed by students of colleges in and around Thanjavur district. The missing
information in the dataset are completed using bin by mean method, followed by feature set reduction is done
using Gini index method. In the second stage, linguistic information are aggregated using frequency match
aggregation (FMA) operator with unconstrained weight values. Further, criteria weights are determined using
standard variance (SV) method under linguistic context. Finally, ranking of smart phone manufacturers is done

Abstract: The more man has advanced towards technology, more and more problems affecting Mother Nature
have aroused. ‘Not now, then when? Not earth, then where? Not we, then who’ are all the rhetoric questions that
in themselves stress the need for us to become more aware about Global Warming. Global Warming has vastly
affected different human sectors but the worst of the effects are seen in the Agricultural sector where the
unpredictable climatic changes are causing to be of great trouble due to which many losses have been incurred.
There were days back when our ancestors could predict the climate through ancient methods and to our surprise;
most of their predictions did turn out to be true. Now that there are sudden climate changes, the previously used
prediction methods have proven futile. There is an acute need to develop more sophisticated prediction methods
using technology where more accurate decisions can be made. Using Embedded Systems and IOT, we aim at
bringing sophistication to the crop prediction techniques to enhance the agricultural productivity even while the
climatic trends keep on changing continuously. Adding on to the utility of this project is the Livestock
Management module which further adds value to the project.

Abstract: Today’s requirements for powertrain-engine management systems are increasing in various aspects.
Stronger emission standards, faster system response times, increased accuracy/ precision in continuous engine
position, the design of next-generation powertrain systems and higher customer expectations etc. demands
software verification and validation from the perspective of real-time applications, where timing is a significant
concern. The approach of verification and validation as proposed in this paper focus on the complex timing
information derived from the sensors, processing of complex signals and driving the power stage ASIC’s via
accurate timing e.g. accurate angle at which the fuel has to be injected and energizing time, prediction of high-
resolution, continuous engine position, etc. This paper discloses a method for generation of complex real-time
stimuli’s controlled via Controller Area Network (CAN) interface to verify and validate the powertrain systems,
thus improving the robustness of the system.

Abstract: Energy plays a major parameter in wireless communication which needs prior focus to achieve
effectiveness in telecommunication sector. Researchers in the past were separately focusing on wired and wireless
parts of the system. However, combining both will improve the efficiency of energy distribution in the entire
communication system. An integrated model is proposed composed of combined control unit component which
helps to deploy the Select & Sleep Mechanism (SSM) for energy efficient enhancement in 5th generation for
IOT.The two different mechanisms are introduced for both the wired and wireless part of the system in SSM, i.e.,
cellular segregation (CS) mechanism, and pre-catching mechanism. MATLAB is used as an aid to evaluate the
performance of these mechanisms. Results of the proposed model are compared with the Traditional Zooming
Scheme (TZS) as a part of validation. It is found that the proposed model shows a reduced power consumption in
comparison with Traditional Zooming Scheme.

Abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are emerging as a promising network for security, surveillance and
maintenance of smart cities. The WSNs are built with the sensor nodes that collect data from their surrounding
environments. The data collected from these sensor nodes is applicable, only if, the location of the origin of the
data is known. Therefore, it becomes important to know the sensor node locations. This process of mapping the co-
ordinates of the sensor nodes is known as localization. In this survey paper, we have presented some of the
localization protocols and classified them based on different parameters.

Morphological approach for Retinal Microaneurysm detection
P Manohar Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering RNS Institute of Technology Bengaluru, India
Vipula Singh Electronics and Communication Engineering RNS Institute of Technology Bengaluru, India

Abstract: Diabetic Retinopathy is an end-stage micro vascular complication of Diabetes where the retina is
impaired as a result of fluids exuding out of blood pathways into the retina. Image analysis and computer vision
techniques are employed to identify different lesions associated with Diabetic Retinopathy. The existence of
microaneurysms in the retina is the primal visible sign of Diabetic Retinopathy. Early automated microaneurysm
detection can help detect the onset of Diabetic Retinopathy. The number of microaneurysms are counted for
automatic ranking of the severity of the malady. In this paper, we have investigated morphological methods for
the automatic detection of microaneurysms from digital color images of the retina. Retinal characteristic
components such as vessels or optic disc and exudate lesions which may cause false detection are also detected.
Using a ground truth, from a DIARETB1 database, microanurysms were detected with 80.41% sensitivity and
92.79% specificity.

Abstract: The recently introduced deep learning environment has been used in post pharmacogenomic
predictions on proneness to lung cancer. The well-established pre-trained model, VGG19 has been used to extract
information from the pathological images specific to PTEN, EGFR, ERBB2, BRAF and CDKN2A for Lung
cancer. The model finds to be suitable for the prediction of these mutations, specific to Indian populations. A
model consisting of testing of specific SNPs and the deep convolution network-based image classification has
been suggested as an ingenious technique for the fast, cheap and effective predictions on mutations of lung cancer
among Indian populations.

Abstract: Hyperspectral image processing plays an important role in satellite communication. Hyperspectral
Image (HSI) processing generally requires very high ‘computational resources’ in terms of computational time
and storage due to extremely large volumes of data collected by imaging spectrometers on-board the satellite. The
bandwidth available to transmit the image data from satellite to the ground station is limited. As a result,
Hyperspectral image compression is an active research area in the research community in past few years. The
research work in the paper proposes a new scheme, Sparsification of HSI and reconstruction (SHSIR) for the
reconstruction of hyperspectral image data acquired in Compressive sensing (CS) fashion. Compressed
measurements similar to compressive sensing acquisition are generated using measurement matrices containing
Gaussian i.i.d entries. Now the reconstruction is solving the constrained optimization problem with non smooth

terms. Adaptive Bregman iterations method of multipliers is used to convert the difficult optimization problem
into a simple cyclic sequence problem. Experimental results from research work indicates that the proposed
method performs better than the other existing techniques.

Determination of Absolute Heart Beat from Photoplethysmographic Signals in the

Presence of Motion Artifacts

Abstract: In Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs), accurate monitoring of heart rate (HR) using
Photoplethysmography (PPG) signals is always a difficult task, especially when the subjects are under radical
exercises. This is due to the signals corrupted by severely strong Motion Artifacts (MA) caused by the subject’s
body movements. In this work, a novel approach has been proposed consisting of signal decomposition for
denoising using principal component analysis (PCA), spare signal reconstruction (SSR), peak detection and
tracking and support vector machine (SVM) classifier for accurate estimation of HR, based on the wrist type PPG
signals. With this approach, we are able to achieve high accuracy and also, it is strong enough to remove MA.
Experiments were conducted on 12 subjects and their datasets are obtained from 2015 IEEE Signal Processing
CUP, running on a threadmill with varying speeds ranging from 0 to a maximum speed of 15 km/hour. From the
results, it is observed that the average absolute error of heart rate estimation is 1.66 beats per minute (BPM).

Abstract: Epigraphs are important sources for reshaping our culture and history. They have a remarkable
importance to mankind. But modern epigraphists find it difficult to interpret
the information in scripts. It is mainly because inscriptions are eroded over a period of time due to natural
calamities. Scripts of ancient times are largely unknown. Character sets used have changed from one form to
another over the centuries. Therefore, for reading ancient scripts the characters have to be extracted. In this paper,
a model for enhancement and binarization of historical epigraphs is proposed. This model consists phase
congruency and of Gaussian model based background elimination using expectation maximization (EM)
algorithm, preprocessing and binarization. In binarization, phase based features are used with specialised filters.
Adaptive Gaussian filters are used to smoothen the output images. Proposed method is tested on
different datasets of inscriptions and epigraphs. Obtained results are compared with the existing classical
algorithms.

Abstract: Ransomware is a malware, which upon execution scrambles the framework and It denies the client
from accessing the data until the point when a payoff sum is not met from the victim. Recently, this kind of
malware has shown a massive growth and had affected nearly 100 nations around the globe.
In this paper we propose GURLS (Grand Unified Regularized Least Square) based approach to detect ransomware
and classify it into different categories. The features used for training and testing are application programming
interface (API) invocations. This paper compares the performance of each of these features for classification and
the effectiveness of RBF Kernel. The results obtained shows that using RBF kernel gives better accuracy.

Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India

Abstract: Street Lights are absolutely important and without those people would be risking their life every minute
they spend on the roads. The main problem involved in street light hardware system is excessive consumption of
power. This amount of power consumption can be minimized by designing smart street lighting systems in order
to have smart cities. To enable the growth of smart cities and help them shape into self-sustaining, energy
harvesting, green hubs, the energy must be conserved. To solve this problem there are many smart street lighting
methods which discussed efficient ways to conserve power. To support the financial needs of some of the proposed
methods, a struggling economy like India would not be able to afford the costs. However, to make it truly smart
and affordable, the number of sensors involved in the street lighting system can be reduced strategically to account
for driver’s visibility range as well as power consumed by the lights. The algorithm discussed in this paper, takes
advantage of Cellular Automata [CA], to simulate the traffic similar to real-time traffic and utilized Bernoulli’s
probability distribution to analyze the randomized the traffic present on the roads. This helped to visualize the
situation as aptly as possible. According to the statistics street lights use up nearly 38% of the electricity produced.
If this energy is saved using an energy saving scheme such as the one discussed in this paper, that energy can be
utilized elsewhere – where there is an absolute and immediate need, for instance smart cities. According to the
results obtained through the utilization of the method discussed in this paper, nearly 50 percent of the energy
consumed by the existing smart street lighting systems can be saved. If the energy thus saved is transferred to the
development of the smart cities, more than 100 of them can achieve full transition from an urban city into a smart
city.

Abstract: One of the important part of IoT ecosystem is wearable device technology, that has many applications
in day to day life. Due to resource constraints, complex security protocols are not feasible for tiny wearable
devices. Hence, alternative approaches employing wireless channel characteristics have been proposed by many
researchers. In this work, we propose a novel symmetric key generation scheme for wearable IoT devices that
exploits the unique features of wireless channel link quality indicator (LQI), compared to other parameter e.g.,
received signal strength (RSS) used in prior work. We select LQI as a parameter of interest since it is the measure
of the channel link quality connecting two communicating parties, whereas RSS is the total energy measured by
radio including noise. We implement our solution on off-the-shelf IoT devices and demonstrate experimentally
that our scheme is lightweight and suitable for practical applications.

Abstract: In this proposed work, Cooperative Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks is analyzed. The
Cooperative Communication helps in reliable information transfer consuming minimum energy and ensuring
reduced error performance. Energy Efficiency and error performance are critical in the design of cooperation in a
Wireless Sensor Network System as they decide node lifespan. In this paper, a 100 × 100 sq m farm area is
considered for isolating crop disease. The information required for the crop disease is transferred to the remote
destination in three ways Direct path, Singlehop and Multihop depending on the Channel State Information and
Farm area. One of the above configuration is chosen based on the Bit error rate and energy efficiency. It is found
that the Multihop has better energy efficiency compared to Singlehop and Directpath.
