RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This section presents the research design, study participants, research instruments
to be used in the data gathering procedure and statistical analysis.

Research Design

This study will employ descriptive- correlational research design to examine

teacher’s self-efficacy, teaching practices and educational beliefs for the 21st century
learners of Valencia City. Descriptive such as frequency, mean, percentages, and
standard deviation were used to present teacher’s self-efficacy, teaching practices and
educational beliefs for the 21st century learner’s survey questionnaire.

The data will then be collected and will be analyzed and interpreted.

Study Participants

Research Instruments

Instrumentation of this study will be adopted based on the K to 12 curriculum

guide for Science 8. The Unit topic will be on Structure and Functions of the Digestive
System.

Academic and non- academic assessments will be used for data analysis and
interpretation.

A. Academic assessment

To test the performance of the respondents, an achievement test will be made.

Pre- test and post-test will be used to measure the academic achievement of
students and will then be based on a range of scores and equivalent scales for the
interpretation of data. This percentage equivalent will be adopted from Rubio (2004),
Pabualan (2011), Nietes (2011) and Operio (2014).

Percentage equivalent Descriptive Rating

90-100 - Outstanding
80-89 - Very Satisfactory
70-79 - Satisfactory
60-69 - Fair
59- below - Needs improvement

B. Non- Academic assessment

A survey questionnaire on Attitude will be used to assess on the attitude of

students towards the subject. The questionnaire will compose of thirty seven item
Likert type scale with five response point, where 1 indicates strongly disagree, 2
disagree, 3 undecided, 4 agree and 5 strong agree. The following are the
corresponding weights used in the interpretation of data.

Numerical Range Descriptive Rating Qualitative Interpretation

Rating
5 4.50-5.0 Strongly agree Highly Positive
4 3.5-4.49 Agree Positive
3 2.5-3.49 Undecided Moderately Positive
2 1.5-2.49 Disagree Negative
1 1.00-1.49 Strongly disagree Highly Negative

Data Gathering Procedure

In the data gathering procedure, the researcher will do the following. First, the
researcher would seek permission from the office of the Schools Division Superintendent
through a letter of request. Second, the researcher would ask permission to the Principal
or the Teacher in-charge of the school where the study will be conducted. Prior to the
conduct of the lesson, the researcher will give a pre-test to determine at what level of
knowledge the students’ has. This pre-test instrument will also be used as post-test for the
assessment of performance of students.
Statistical Analysis

Descriptive Statistics will be used in the interpretation of data. This comprises

frequency, mean and standard deviation which will help in the description of the
respondents’ performance and attitude. However, Pearson product correlation will be
utilized as proof to the relationship of the variables. Lastly, ANOVA and Regression
Analysis will be used to determine the predictors of attaining high performance among
the respondents.
