A Study on the Perception of 3rd year Nursing students of De Los Santos-STI

College on the Benefits derived from Leisure Activities

CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction

Leisure activities are those things done voluntarily by the individual during his
no-work or free time. These activities may be physical, mental, social or spiritual.
Furthermore, they may be worthwhile physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually to
those who voluntarily participate in them or they may simply be pleasant and relaxing for
whiling away the leisure time. Refreshing breaks after a workday help one unwind.
Hence, some people would love nothing more than drift in and out of sleep and devour
books during their wakeful hours. Besides reading, other people enjoy other forms of
leisure activities. Malls, for instance, have become an indispensable part of their lives.
Other people want to be with their family to promote bonding among the members.
Others have adopted new ways of spending leisure, like sitting in coffee shops, texting,
using computer or engaging volunteer work.

Hypothesis

There is a significant relationship between gender and the perception in the benefits they
derived from leisure activities.

Data Collection

about their perceptions regarding the research topic.
• The researcher collected the data from 50 3rd year nursing students.

Scope and Limitations

respondent’s perception of the benefits derived from this activities. Only the 50 3rd year
nursing students from De Los Santos-STI College, school year 2010-2011 were involved.
No attempt was made to compare or correlate these activities with any other factors such
as mental ability, socio-economic status, and the like
