 2, Analysis and design for member AC as tension member in steel structure
as shown below which is subjected to design load .And take steel grade of
Fe-360 if necessary assumed reasonable data.

Steel grade Fe = 360 Yield strength fy = 23.5 kN/cm2 (Table 3.1, EBCS-3
Ultimate resistance fu = 36.0 kN/cm2 (Table 3.1 EBCS-3)
Partial safety factor γM1 = 1.1 (Section 4.1.1, EBCS-3)
Partial safety factor γM2 = 1.25
Gross area for one angle 100 x 75 x 8 = 13.40 cm2
Assume diameter of hole is 20mm=2cm
Solution:
1). Plastic resistance of the gross section

Npl Rd=Afy/γM1
2*13.4*23.5/1.1 =572.5444
2). Ultimate resistance of the net section at the bolt holes.
Calculation of the Aeff. S = 3.5 cm and p = 4.1 cm.
Therefore the net width dn can be computed by using the following formula which
is known as “the chain
Formula”.
dn = total width- nd + as2/4p

Chain (1) s=3.5, p=4.1 dn =16.7-2*2 +1*3.52/4*4.1 =11.9cm

Chain (2) is normal chain dn =16.7-1*2=14.7cm

Chain (3) s=3.5, p=4.1 dn = 16.7-2*2+(1+3.52/4*4.1) =11.95cm

Chain (4) is normal chain, dn =16.7-1*2 =14.7cm

Then we can use minimum width to calculate net critical area (11.95cm)

Therefore the Net Critical Area = 11.95*0.8 =19.12cm2

Calculation of Nu, Rd.

Nu, Rd = 0.9* Aeff fu/ γM2
0.9*19.12*36/1.25 =495.59KN

Checking for the maximum slenderness ratio.

Slenderness ratio = Leff / kmin; minimum radius of gyration kmin = 1.62 mm.

Slenderness ratio = 300 / 1.62 = 185 < 350 OK.

Answer:
The design tension resistance capacity of the cross-section is 495.59kN, therefore,
because 495.59 kN > 200 kN, the
Section 1-1 used for design is adequate.
