Jerusalem the Final
Battleground and
Armageddon Before
Restoration to Capital City
of Christ’s Millennial
Kingdom
(Chapter 3 of It’s Nearer than You Think,
published in 2001)

Text: Zechariah 12:1-9
In the last chapter we were
amazed to see how the
prophet‟s prediction that when
God began to regather Israel as
a nation it was fulfilled in May
14, 1948 before our eyes. We
are further amazed that Israel
in order to survive had to fight
five wars against the immediate
Arab enemies and these wars
were won between 1948 and
1985.
But although Israel stood
victorious, the Palestinians
were a thorn in her flesh. In
order to settle this immediate
problem with them living in their
territories, Israel has to yield
much land for peace. The final
bone of contention, however, is
Jerusalem. Israel will never
give up Jerusalem to the
Palestinians and neither will the
Palestinians give up to the
Jews.
So, despite all the talk for
peace, war, according to Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon, has
broken out since September
2000. This bloodiest strife
between Israel and the
Palestinians has taken a death
toll of 533 Palestinians against
133 Jews (dated July 30, ‟01).
In the most daring suicidal
counter attack, a young
Palestinian suicide bomber
exploded a bomb in Tel Aviv‟s
busiest centre killing 20 Jews
and injuring a hundred. Sharon
swiftly vowed revenge. What
this has led to is Israel‟s all out
tit-for-tat retaliation.

All these bombings are seen by
the prophet Zechariah. He sees
God taking a part to preserve
Jerusalem for His chosen
people “2Behold, I will make
Jerusalem a cup of trembling
unto all the people round about,
when they shall be in the siege
both against Judah and against
Jerusalem. 3And in that day will
I make Jerusalem a seven-year period, there will be
burdensome stone for all
people: all that burden
themselves with it shall be cut
in pieces, though all the people
of the earth be gathered
together against it.” (Zech.
12:2,3)
The young Palestinian suicide
bomber is only the beginning of
fulfilment of this prophecy.
There is plenty more to come.
The climax of attack will come
in the Battle of Armageddon.
Do you see how close we are
to the Day of Christ‟s Second
Coming?
But that Day will come closer
when peace is enforced by the
coming World Dictator between
the Jews and the Arabs. “And
he shall confirm the covenant
with many for one week: and in
the midst of the week he shall
cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the
overspreading of abominations
he shall make it desolate, even
until the consummation, and
that determined shall be poured
upon the desolate.” (Dan. 9:27).
The peace covenant between
the Jews and Arabs occurs at
the beginning of the week of
years, or seven years of
Antichrist rule. Since it is
broken in the middle of the
3½ years of peace but war will
come. The World Dictator will
desecrate the Jewish temple
worship in the welter of events
that leads to war.
Within living memory, this poor
earth has undergone the First
World War, 1914-1918. With a
short interval of 21 years of
phony peace came WWII,
1939-1945. From end of WWII
to the present there is a grace
period of 56 years. How many
more years to the outbreak of
WWIII? Walvoord believes
when WWIII comes it will be the
end. The last global war which
is identified as WWIII is
decreed to break out from Iraq!
(The one that broke out in
August 1990 was only a
precursor). This one cannot
come early or late but precisely
as given in Rev. 9:13-16.
Events move with lightning
speed. From the sounding of
the 6th Trumpet in Rev. 9 we

come to the pouring of the 6th
vial in Rev 16:12-16.
Here we see the Euphrates
River that flows through
modern Syria and Iraq dried up
that the way of the kings of the
east might be prepared. Who
are the kings of the east insofar
as Israel is concerned? They
are Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arab,
Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan,
Pakistan and China. It will be a
contest between East and West,
involving “the kings of the earth
and of the whole world” (Rev.
16:14). There will be virtually no
neutral nations, only two
opposing armies totalling 200
million men. The description of
the armour of these fighting
horsemen is also given.
And thus I saw the horses in the
vision, and them that sat on them,
having breastplates of fire, and of
jacinth, and brimstone: and the
heads of the horses were as the
heads of lions; and out of their
mouths issued fire and smoke and
brimstone. By these three was the
third part of men killed, by the fire,
and by the smoke, and by the
brimstone, which issued out of their
mouths. For their power is in their
mouth, and in their tails: for their tails
were like unto serpents, and had
heads, and with them they do hurt.
(Rev. 9:17-19)
The contending armies come to
a final clash at Armageddon.
Where is Armageddon?
Armageddon is the Greek for
the Hebrew Har Megiddo (Hill
of Slaughter). It commands a
plain between Haifa and the
North Jordan Valley, a
battlefield from time
immemorial. This Battlefield in
the final World War stretches
from Megiddo in the north to
Eilat on the Red Sea in the
south (a distance of 200 miles).
Rev. 14:14-20 tells of a river of
blood extending this whole
length of battlefield, the height
of the flow of blood rising to the
horses‟ bridles. Jerusalem is in
the centre of this carnage.
Jerusalem is Armageddon.
Although God will make
Jerusalem a burdensome stone
for all people: all that burdens
themselves with it shall be cut
to pieces, though all the people
of the earth be gathered
together against it.
(Zech 12:3), “And it shall come to
pass, that in all the land, saith the
LORD, two parts therein shall be cut
off and die; but the third shall be left
therein. 9And I will bring the third
part through the fire, and will refine
them as silver is refined, and will try
them as gold is tried: they shall call
on my name, and I will hear them: I
will say, It is my people: and they
shall say, The LORD is my God.”
(Zech. 13:8,9).

Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,
and thy spoil shall be divided in the
midst of thee. For I will gather all
nations against Jerusalem to battle;
and the city shall be taken, and the
houses rifled, and the women
ravished; and half of the city shall go
forth into captivity, and the residue of
the people shall not be cut off from
the city. Then shall the LORD go
forth, and fight against those nations,
as when he fought in the day of
battle. And his feet shall stand in that
day upon the mount of Olives, which
is before Jerusalem on the east, and
the mount of Olives shall cleave in
the midst thereof toward the east
and toward the west, and there shall
be a very great valley; and half of the
mountain shall remove toward the
north, and half of it toward the south.
And ye shall flee to the valley of the
mountains; for the valley of the
mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea,
ye shall flee, like as ye fled from
before the earthquake in the days of
Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD
my God shall come, and all the
saints with thee. (Zech. 14:1-5)
This passage of Zech. 14:1-5 is
reflected in Rev. 16:17-19.
When Christ personally
descends from heaven to earth
to save Israel and fight against
all the nations gathered against
Jerusalem, when his feet
touches the Mount of Olives the
whole sinful earth will tremble
before His holy presence. First
the earthquake that splits
Jerusalem into three parts
moving hills and mountains and
creating valleys, such an
earthquake as had never
happened till this day.
This earthquake triggers a
chain reaction to the cities of
the nations, which are of
Babylon in the great finale of
God‟s judgment of a totally
corrupt world. New York and
London, Paris and Rome,
Berlin and Cairo, Bombay and
Calcutta, Bangkok and
Singapore, Jakarta and Manila,
Melbourne and Sydney, and all
the wicked cities of the
Southern Hemisphere shall not
escape. Being “downunder” will
not escape this grand finale of
God‟s judgment.
For the Jews in Jerusalem that
are alive, our Lord in Matt. 24
tells them to flee to the
mountains. The mountains of
Ammon, Moab and Edom
across the Jordan, according to
Daniel 11:41 will be safe.
Will the escaping Jews take this
route?

The Five Sola
Statements
Text: John 6:66-69
Today is the Reformation
Sunday, and we give thanks
and praise to the Lord for
raising His godly servants like
Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli,
John Calvin, and John Knox for
the 16 th Century Reformation
to shine forth His Truth in the
dark world of lies, hypocrisy,
idolatry, superstitions, and
apostasy. In those days people
did not have the Word of God in
their own languages and in
their hands, so they had to go
to Roman Catholic Church
(RCC) to hear the wrong
interpretation and unbiblical
preaching of the bishops or
priests or Pope; as a result,
they were misled by unbiblical
doctrines, practices, and
traditions of the RCC: their
salvation was not by grace
through faith alone but mixed

with good works, their worship
was not in spirit and in truth
based on God's Word alone but
mixed with human traditions,
unbiblical rituals and
sacraments, their loyalty was
not to the Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ and to God's Word
alone but to the Pope, to his
words and to the RCC, etc. We
must thank God for delivering
us from such horrible bondage.
In our Bible
text today,
we see that
many of
Jesus'
disciples Scripture Alone
"went back,
and walked
(Sola Scriptura)
no more
with him" (v
66) due to
their lack of
faith and submission to the
Lord and His Word. Our Lord
did not lower His standard nor
run after them and compromise
His truth, but turned to the
twelve and challenged them,
"Will ye also go away?" (v 67).
How will you and I reply to the
Lord if He asks us this same
question today? Thank God for
granting Peter the illumination
to confess, "Lord, to whom shall
we go?" (showing a great need
of the Lord and His grace –
Sola Gratia) "thou hast the
words of eternal life" (Sola
Scriptura). "And we believe"
(Sola Fide) "and are sure that
thou art that Christ" (Solo
Christo) "the Son of the living
God." Through this confession,
Peter gave all glory to God
alone (Soli Deo Gloria).
Through the Truth of God's
Word, the Reformers and
believers were illumined to
understand that their salvation
was by
grace
alone,
through
faith
alone,
based on
the
Scriptures
alone and
Christ
alone, so
they gave all glory to God alone
and spared no effort to contend
for their saving faith even unto
death. Thus, the five great Sola
(alone) statements of the 16th
Century Reformation are the
Truth you and I should treasure
and practise, and hold forth and
contend for in these last days of
compromise and apostasy.
Without God's Word, the
Scripture and without a sincere
submission to the authority of
the Scripture alone, we are

really in spiritual darkness,
unable to see nor discern truth
from falsehood or right from
wrong! This is what has
happened to the RCC and
other cultic or occult groups,
not to mention many other
human religions. The RCC
believe the Scripture but also
the sayings of the Pope and
traditions, and even put the
papal words and church
traditions above the Scripture.
To them, the
Scripture alone
is not sufficient
nor the sole
authority and
foundation of
their faith,
salvation,
doctrines, and
practices. Only
the Pope,
bishops and
priests are
qualified and
have the right to interpret the
Scripture and they only use the
Scripture to suit or support their
papal words and church
traditions. As a result, they do
not see the Truth but blindly
follow their unbiblical doctrines
and practices such as prayers
for the dead, exaltation of Mary,
extreme unction, purgatory,
prayers to Mary, dead saints
and angels, kissing the pope's
foot, worship of the cross,
images and relics, holy water,
canonization of dead saints, the
Mass as a sacrifice, celibacy of
the priesthood, Rosary, sale of
indulgencies (tickets for
forgiveness), transubstantiation
(the bread and cup become the
real flesh and blood of Jesus),
confession of sins to a priest,
adoration of wafer, seven
sacraments, tradition declared
of equal authority with the
Scripture (actually above),
apocryphal books
added to the Bible,
etc. Even after the
Reformation, the
infallibility of the
pope in matters of
faith and morals
proclaimed by
Vatican Council
(1870),
assumption of the
Virgin Mary
(bodily ascension
into heaven
shortly after her death) (1950),
Mary proclaimed Mother of the
Church (1965)! What heresies
and superstitions! It is "because
they received not the love of
the truth, that they might be
saved. And for this cause God
shall send them strong delusion,
that they should believe a lie" (2
Thess 2:10-11).
Sola Scriptura is the watchword
of the Reformation in the

establishment of the reformed
doctrines. We can see the
power of God's Word to save
sinners and deliver them from
the power of darkness when
the Scripture was translated
into English and to German and
to other languages. It is God's
Word that made them free from
the bondage of unbiblical
doctrines, traditions, practices
and rituals of the RCC!
We thank God that through the
Reformation we have our
English King James Bible in our
hands today, which was
translated by godly and
talented servants of God from
His perfectly inspired and
perfectly preserved texts
(Traditional Masoretic Hebrew
text for OT and Received
Greek Text for the NT). Sadly,
many so-called Christians even
leaders and scholars nowadays
doubt, question or criticize
God's Word! Dear friends, the
Scripture alone must be the
sole foundation of our salvation,
doctrines, lives, practices,
worship, and service. The
Scripture alone must be
identified as the sole authority,
clarity, sufficiency in all matters
of our faith, doctrines, and
morals. It is through the
Scripture that we may know the
truth about God and man and
our salvation in the Lord Jesus
Christ, that we are born again
and sanctified (1 Peter 1:23;
John 17:17), that we may grow
in faith, grace and the
knowledge of God (Matt 4:4;
John 6:63; 1 Peter 2;2; 2 Peter
3:18), that we may obtain God's
wisdom, guidance and comfort
(Ps 19:7; 119:50, 105; Rom
15:4; 2 Tim 3:15), that we may
overcome Satan with the sword
of the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:14;
Eph 6:17). Shall we not truly
live and grow by God's Word
(Matt 4:4; 1 Peter 2:2)?
Alone
(Sola
Gratia)
The RCC requires her
members to do good works and
to keep unbiblical doctrines and
sacraments to be saved, even
to believe that only those who
belong to the RCC are saved!
But what the Scripture says is
truth. The Scripture shows our
totally depraved, corrupt, and
sinful nature, "The heart is
deceitful above all things, and
desperately wicked: who can

know it?" (Jer 17:9), and we
"were dead in trespasses and
sins" (Eph 2:1). The Scripture
confirms that we can never
justify or save ourselves by our
own good works, "Therefore by
the deeds of the law there shall
no flesh be justified in his sight:
for by the law is the knowledge
of sin" (Rom 3:20; Gal 2:16).
Then, we must thank God for
His grace alone that we are
saved and justified, "For by
grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God" (Eph 2:8),
and "Being justified freely by his
grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom
3:24). Knowing this truth, we
can enjoy God's salvation in
Christ and give Him all thanks
and praise for His grace and
mercy!
Then how can we grow in
God's grace (2 Peter 3:18)? It is
vital to know that grace comes
from God alone (Rom 1:7; 1
Cor 1:3, et al) as He is "the God
of all grace" (1 Peter 5:10),
Jesus Christ is "full of grace
and truth" (John 1:14), and the
Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of
grace" (Heb 10:29), and then
we must humble ourselves
before Him for "God resisteth
the proud, but giveth grace unto
the humble" (James 4:6; 1
Peter 5:5), and "come boldly
unto the throne of grace, that
we may obtain mercy, and find
grace to help in time of need"
(Heb 4:16), believing that God's
grace is always "sufficient" for
us (2 Cor 12:9). Shall we not do
this to grow in grace? We
should remember that sincerely
humbling ourselves before God
includes submitting ourselves
to Him and His Word. Many
think that they are humble while
not trembling at God's Word
(Isa 66:2). They even
arrogantly dare to question or
criticise God's Word!
Alone
( Sola Fide )
The RCC holds that faith in the
Scripture alone or in the Lord
Jesus alone is not sufficient
and requires her members to
believe also in their own
traditions, doctrines, and
sacraments with good works. It
means that they cannot be
saved by faith alone but with
good works, and this is contrary
to the teaching of the Scripture,
which says, "a man is justified

by faith without the deeds of the grace by our faith in the Lord
law" (Rom 3:28), and "put no Jesus Christ alone and God's
difference between us and Word alone. Nowadays, many
them, purifying their hearts by are proud of their tolerant and
faith" (Acts 15:9), and "are open-minded attitude,
sanctified by faith" (Acts 26:18), welcoming all religious faiths in
and "by grace are ye saved their interfaith conferences or
through faith" (Eph 2:8), and services! It is ecumenism,
"not having mine own compromise and apostasy! The

The RCC requires her

them, to confess their sins to
priests, and to be submissive
and loyal to the Pope and RCC
despite their unbiblical
doctrines and traditions! The
Scripture confirms, "For there is
one God, and one mediator
between God and men, the
man Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 2:5),
and each one of us can boldly
come near to God and pray to
Him directly in Jesus Christ'
name and by His blood,
"Having therefore, brethren,
boldness to enter into the
holiest by the blood of Jesus"
(Heb 4:16; 10:19) and
"whatsoever ye shall ask in my
name, that will I do, that the
Father may be glorified in the
Son" (John 14:13), and
"whosoever shall call on the
name of the Lord shall be
saved" (Acts 2:21). Dear friends,
is Christ alone our Saviour and
Lord, our divine Prophet, great
High Priest, and King of kings?
Is Christ "our life" (Col 3:4)?
Are we loyal to Christ alone and
His Word alone? Would we
obey Christ alone and His Word
alone rather than men (Acts
5:29) without any compromise
no matter what may happen to
us?
Glory to God Alone
Since salvation is not by grace
alone nor by faith alone nor by
Christ alone but mixed with
good works and unbiblical
doctrines and traditions, the
RCC gives glory to Mary and
saints and Pope and priests
and even to her members on
the basis of their good works!

But the truth is that we are
hopelessly unable to save
ourselves but by God's grace
alone, by faith in Him alone and
by Christ alone, so we shall
humbly give all glory to God
alone and have our purpose of
life to glorify Him alone: "That
no flesh should glory in his
presence… That, according as
it is written, He that glorieth, let
him glory in the Lord… Whether
therefore ye eat, or drink, or
whatsoever ye do, do all to the
glory of God" (1 Cor 1:29, 31;
10:31). Dear friends, do you
and I give all glory to God alone?
Conclusion
Dear friends, we must thank
God that by His grace and
mercy we are enjoying the
heritage of the Reformed Faith
and the King James Bible.
Then, we are to treasure, hold
forth, and contend for this holy
faith in these last days of
compromise and apostasy. May
the Lord help you and me, not
only to believe but also to live
by God's Word, the Scripture
alone, by God's grace alone, by
faith in God and His Word
alone, and by Christ alone with
our humble, thankful and
submissive heart, giving all
glory to God alone. May the
Lord help us be loyal to Him
alone and His Word alone until
He comes back again. Amen.

Church. The message for that

Brother Jonathan chaired the
meeting, with Sister Elena as
pianist. After a session of songs
and prayer, Preacher Dennis
Kabingue proceeded to
expound on God‟s Word.

here in Singapore. After the

on my knees and committed

of concern then was how I
could continue to serve the
Lord given my NS commitment.
More importantly, how would I
fare spiritually? There is a
saying that NS will either break
or make a person. Would I
remain faithful or fall away? So
I really, really prayed. It was a
time of agonizing and yet sweet
communion with God. A couple
of months later, when I was
asked to choose which area of
service to join in the YF, I
handed in a blank sheet as I
could not commit on a regular
basis due to the time constrain
that an army boy has. Prior to
this I had already left the
church choir in mid-2006 due to
the same reasons. Handing in
that blank sheet officially makes
my service in church a big zero.
So I really, really prayed, again.

Home Sweet Home
Home at last! If there were ever
a time that I had been so happy
returning home, this would be it.
The weekend came and it was
unspeakable joy to set foot in

psalmist loved the Lord's house,
so did I. Sometimes it is easy
for those who are able to attend
church week after week to
forget that the act of being able
to go to church itself is a
privilege given by the Lord. Not
only so, to be able to worship
the Almighty on the Lord's Day
is a wonderful blessing! For us,
we receive this wonderful
blessing on a weekly basis! For
a child of God to be found in
God's house, among God's
people on the Lord's Day is an
event worth much thanksgiving.
May we never be found guilty

BPC) was getting ordained.
Another minister, Hien Nguyen,
was also added into the Bible-
Presbyterian Church. Praise
God! Two more preachers,
Ephrem Chiracho Ouchula and
Reggor Barazon Galarpe, both
missionaries of Gethsemane
BPC will be ordained at the end
of the year. How wonderful!
The BPC does not ordain
ministers every year and there
are four just in this year alone.
Another milestone for the BPC?
What is even worth more
rejoicing is that these four
believe in the Verbal Plenary
Preservation of Scripture. Dear
friends, we at Truth BPC are
not alone in our stand.
Before June 4 came, the
milestone date which marks the
70th year of existence of our
small and yet undying Bible-
Presbyterian denomination,
there were 2 one-week events
which I had longed to attend:
the FEBC DVBC on “What Is
Bible-Presbyterianism?” and
FCM Camp on “Take Time To
Be Holy.” By God‟s divine
appointment, I was able to
attend one day for each due to
Labour Day and Vesak Day
public holidays. Even though it
is just one day, it was a
powerful demonstration of
God‟s grace and I was richly
blessed and encouraged. For
those who were able to attend
the whole week for both, good
for you. Remember to count
your blessings. On top of which,
I made a difficult decision to
join the FCM campers for the
testimony night after my Friday
bookout. Even though it lasted
till the early hours of Saturday
morning and that I felt really
exhausted doing duties at NDP
rehearsal after that, a surge of
indescribable joy filled my heart
listening to the testimonies of
brothers and sisters in Christ
sharing what the Lord has done
in their lives, magnifying God
and giving Him the glory due
unto His name. The spirit-filled

testament
to our
common
bond in

was during this time that I made
