NICKEL SILVER FRETS

- Nickel silver frets are produced of two hardness types: standard hardness
frets (of nickel silver with 1 2 % nickel content); extrahard frets (of nickel silver
with 1 8 % nickel content). Extrahard frets (e.h.) of over 170 HB hardness can
bear a long-time (up to 2 years) intensive play of a musical instrument.
- Nickel silver frets are produced with different crown forms.
The most wide-spreadare arc-shaped (conventional) and triangular
crown forms. Triangular frets allow toplay an instrument without "rustling"
which is of special importance while recording in sound studios using
high-sensitivity devices.
- Nickel silver repair frets have a thicker tang and are successfully used by
repair workshops for re-fretting.

STAINLESS STEEL FRETS
- Frets of stainless steel are of increased wear-resisting property (w.p.), they
have up to 4 0 HRC hardness. These are practically "ageless" frets.

NONALLERGENIC FRETS
- Frets of nonallergenic alloy are silver-coloured, of standard hardness,
intended for musical instruments made of materials causing no allergic
reactions in players.

SPECIAL BRONZE FRETS
- Bronze frets with 1 5 % content of tin (the most ringing bronze). The color
of frets is gold, their hardness is similar to the hardness of extra hard nickel
silver frets. These unique frets especially show themselves on high-quality
electric guitars.

- Frets are of high manufacturing accuracy (±0.02 mm); the crown surface
finish is at least of class 8; the tang is smooth, with studs in the form of
triangular pyramids or withoutstuds; the shoulders are straight.
The frets with studs fit perfectly the surface of the fingerboard, they hold fast
in the kerf slot, and can be easily replaced without breaking the fingerboard
surface.
SINTOMS company produces frets for three type deliveries:

- factory rolls
- shop delivei-y in sets

A factory delivery set includes 6 straight lengths
of 2 6 0 mm each. Fret lengths are combined into
bundles of 120 or 2 0 0 pieces in accordance with
sizes and total number of sets. Bundles are put
into packets and then are packaged for transport.

- Fretwire in rolls is supplied only under special oi-ders. Frets in rolls are
arc-shaped which may be not acceptable for manufacturers of musical
instruments. Weight of one fretwire roll makes up to 15 kg.

- A shop delivery set includes 12 arc-shaped fret lengths of 130 mm each.

This type set has a separate blister packing.

TOOLS FOR FRETS
Of great popularity among manufacturers of musical instruments in various
countries are special devices of SINTOMS intended for frets mounting:

Cutters f f
Cutters are used to cut slots in a fingerboard for ' ' ^ т Д
mounting of frets. The cutters make slots straight, j l
without chipping, cracks or fluffiness. As a rule, the v ^ В
consumers of the SINTOMS frets prefer to use the SINTOMS cutters to mount
frets.
Cutters are made to standard sizes for different models of frets:

- Cutter outer diameter: 8 0 mm

- Inner standard diameters: 25; 28; 30; 32; 4 0 mm (Cutters of other inner
diameters may be manufactured under request)
- Tooth thickness: 0.43; 0.52 mm (Cutters of other tooth thickness may be
manufactured under request)
- Cutter thickness: 1.8 mm

Cutters are of high manufacturing accuracy (± 0.02 mm) and of increased

resistance to wear. They are made of special tool steel and fit for regrinding.

As to the experience of the application of cutters at factories with 4 to 8

thousand fretboard instruments monthly output, the cutters can operate for
a year without regrinding.

Cutters are delivered in sets of 2 2 or 24 pieces. Also may be delivered by

one piece or so.
 TOOLS FOR FRETS
Tang Nippers
- Tang nippers provide a very clean L-shape cut at the fret tang butt-end.
- Frets with suchwise nipped tang butt-ends provide for opportunity of decorative
fdiing of the slots on a fingerboard (plastic lining fitted at the edge, etc.)
- Nippers are a versatile tool. They can be used for tangs of frets of different
models.
- A significant feature of nippers is that they can cut frets made of stainless steel.

Fret Bender
- Fret bender is applied to transform a straight fret length of factory delivery into
an arc-shaped one.
- Fret bender allows an adjustable radius of bend.
- Fret bender provides for opportunity to bend frets of different models with
various tang width.
