Work in Time of Civil War

The Civil War in Syria has affected people in many ways and one of them is the ability to

work.

Every worker in Syria has the same right to work as a normal civilian, but now it is different,

because they do not have control of the factories at which they are working. The Syrian workers

and even the peasants are paying the price unfair prices for the restructuring of the people and

government and what seems like an endless period of war.

On April 8 ,2018 the Syrian government prohibited the access to many workers even if

they are working in the factories. It is not possible to independently verify the reports because

Douma is surrounded by Syrian government forces ,which prohibit the access of journalists ,aid

workers and investigators. There are many examples of violence during this crisis of tears and

blood that you can see during this period. One of them is in Daraa which is one of the places

that started the Civil War. The government arrested children just for painting a wall with a

political graffiti and dozens of people died that week. Shows us how much the government is

interesting on the safety for people who’s a worker and trying to grow the country with their jobs.

The effects on this civil war was very scary for every person who lived there or who saw

people dying even how their lives were changed in just a day. This impacted families life work

and education for kids who are not going to school for years and for parents who are not

working. If they don’t work ,there’s not supplies for the family. Civilians who lived their whole life

in Syria were forced to flee Syria since the conflict started. There’s no food , no water. People

have to be stronger for their families ,they can cry but they cannot have normal lives again even

if they try because they know how it is to be a refugees and how a missile sounds, even worse

they saw and heard their families dying and suffering.

One area where violence impacts many workers is in the medical field. Both doctors and

patients have lost their places of work and their ability to work. On 6 January 2018 ;the

Hospitals were in danger , all hospitals are targets for the air attacks from the terrorists .At least

10 Hospitals in rebel-held areas of Syria have suffered direct air artillery attacks .There are

dozens of persons who died from this air attack ;doctors ,sick persons, even kids are already

dead ,there’s no hospital to go to,there’s nothing for sick people who need medicine and

professional attention. The Syrian government and Russia’s military have consistently denied

targeting civilian areas .This period of crisis for workers is really hard .In August 13,2013

Workers died trying to work in the area of crisis ,but none of the workers survived after the last

air attack over the weekend. One of the survivors who escaped from this catastrophe is Fatima

who fled to Lebanon for her life with her sick mother ,but now the difference is noticeable for her

,Fatima said “I was living in heaven before and now it feels like I am in hell” and “The hardest

thing about my life is getting the money to buy bread and medication for my mother , not to

mention the rent for the tent. I work five days a week in agriculture barely make enough”. Rabia

is another survivor but she has different needs than Fatima ,She has cancer and there’s no

Hospital in Syria to be treated, so on Jan 31,2017 ,she was forced to leave the country because

no people could do their jobs in the hospital and pharmacies ,She can not get her medical

treatment ,and She says “I was getting good treatment in Syria .But the war stopped all that

.The Hospital where I was being seen was hit by missiles .So many doctors have fled Syria”.

There is some good news in all of this. There are many organizations that are

collaborating with supplements and making programs for refugees who need help, and this help

can open opportunities for work in the future. On September 23,2016 Maedbh McDonald was

telling us how e-voucher are providing over 7,000 houses with monthly financial support. And

registered families to buy supplements as food , water , even clothes , and also there’s been a

significant reduction in the number of families sending their children out to work ,and in that way

children can continue with their education like a normal kid needs. One is World Vision who

explores the supplies that the Middle East needs , and helping them with distributing hygiene

supplies to families in Idlib and A’zaz,Syria, and also they’re helping persons who escaped from

attacks in Eastern Ghouta. During this period the World Vision website was working every day

and they are still working ,In 2017 World Vision helped nearly 15,000 Syria’s refugees in Turkey.

World Vision is a community who are working through partners and also provides access to

legal services , protection, translation and even education.

Concern Worldwide is another organization who is helping refugees with supplements

that it needs with some of the highest priority needs in Syria: providing food, shelter and other

emergency items. Also they provide agriculture vouchers ;providing cash for work projects.

Unfortunately the violence in Syria is increasing more and more every year that passes,

even today is more violent than yesterday .In the last two years the scale of fighting in Syria has

intensified and the impact on civilian life has been catastrophic including children and old people

,on that way children can not go back again with their education for fear to be dead for a bomb

or arm. The fear of Syrian’s people who has fled Syria since the start of the conflict are terrified

since March 15 ,2011. The Director Brid Kennedy of Concern’s Middle Easter describe Syria as

“hell on earth” , he says “They are surviving by what they perceive to be strong building that

might withstand aerial bombardments and they are just living in enormous fear”, “Their life is just
Nicolini4

one of fear and dream and struggle for survival”, this can affect their style of life , and even their

work because they will not even go to work for fear of losing their lives.

On January 6 2013 , the president of Syria who’s name is Assad said he wants to finish

with the opposition. He gave a speech which he was saying he will not be weak and he will not

step down ,his vision of Syria’s future includes a new constitution and an end to support for the

opposition, but from the vision of the opposition/terrorists they will not work with the government.

The President of Syria says he wants to finish with this horror movie , but he and the

opposition are not in agreement with anything and people are still dying for their differences, As

long as the two sides are not willing to work together for the good of the people, people won’t be

able to work to rebuild their country. And people needs to work , the country need

doctors, teachers, firefighters, etc. If this continue people would die more than all these years,

they need their jobs to help and to help their self for supplements. That’s how important it is to

work.
