G 1.13 – Running Dictation

Task Procedures:
Preparation:
- Get pupils to clear their tables, the floor and put their chairs under the tables. Make
sure there is a space in front of the coloured paper strips on the wall. Make sure all
pupils can run to the walls.
1. Blu tack the sentence strips on the wall.
2. Get pupils into pairs. One is sitting as the writer and another one is the runner. The
writer needs a pencil and an eraser and a RD writing lines.
3. Ask two pupils from a pair to stand up. Tell the runner to run to the sentence strips on
the wall. Model the process, run with the runner. Tell the runner to read the 1st word
and go back to the writer.
‘what is the word? Tell your friend. ‘
4. If the writer cannot write, the runner has to spell the word. If the runner could not
either, tell him to go back to the wall. Repeat the process.
5. The runner can memorize more than one word if he is able to do so.
6. When the pair is finished running and dictating, they have to correct the singular and
plural nouns in the text thencopy the whole text again into the A4 lined paper.
7. Make sure all pupils understand the process before you start the activity.
8. Get all pairs ready and start the activity.
9. Teacher moves around and monitor the pupils to ensure that the runners do not grab
the pencil or eraser or shout more than one word at a time. The writer may only
touch the pencil, the eraser and the lined paper. Only runners are allowed to run to
the sentences.
10. First pair to finish with correct answers wins the game.
Material:

1. Last school holiday, Pravin went to Kuala Lumpur.

2. He went there with his family.

3. They travelled to Kuala Lumpur by an aeroplane.

4. He bought some (bun) and (drink) at a (bakery) there.

5. Pravin saw a few (child) running and two (pilot) passing by.

6. Pravin’s sister bought three beautiful (dress) from a shoplot.

7. His father bought two pairs of (shoe).
