Unit Focus:

Students will explore and analyze their society, as well as the multimedia within it, through the
critical lense of Gender Stereotypes. Through reading, discussing, writing, and critical thinking,
students will gain an understanding of how their society views gender and how that affects them
today.

Reading Goals:
● SWBAT make inferences from information based on text
● SWBAT support inferences with information from text
● SWBAT read through lenses & discuss the text closely to determine how the text works
● SWBAT gain an understanding of unknown words by using context clues to form
definitions.
● SWBAT relate texts to personal life experiences.

Writing:
● SWBAT draft a response by starting with a claim and providing reasons and evidence to
support the argument.
● SWBAT revise the final task to elaborate on evidence with context and specificity
● SWBAT make a strong introduction and conclusion.
● SWBAT formulate supportable arguments, summarize events and ideas, construct
inferences, and critique character traits in a written/oral literary interpretation.
● SWBAT pull material from outside sources and cite/ quote them correctly

● SWBAT analyze, compare/contrast, and relate to a variety of texts.
● SWBAT explore how gender roles are represented in media today.
● SWBAT understand how gender stereotypes are represented in their world.
● SWBAT identify harmful stereotypes in a piece of popular culture, media, or text.
● SWBAT formulate an argument as to how gender stereotypes can be harmful to an
individual.
