Cobra Safe Single Layer
Polyethylene Pipe System
USE ONLY WITH COBRA SAFE INSERTS & COBRA COMPRESSION FITTINGS

• Used with standard readily available Cobra Compression Fittings.

• The System is only covered by the warrantee when genuine Cobra Compression Fittings

and Cobra Safe Inserts are used.

• Cost efficient when compared with traditional plumbing.

• Less susceptible to theft. No scrap copper pipe value.

• No special crimping required it therefore does not have the problems associated with

incorrectly used crimping tools.

• Fits securely into standard size holder bats, eliminating the possibility of vibration and

water hammer.

• Available in 15mm, 22mm, 28mm diameter sizes and 50m or 100m lengths for ease of

transportation. (28mm is only available in 50m). Insulation properties reduce heat loss.

• Saving’s generated as the system requires fewer fittings.

• Flexible and lightweight therefore facilitating ease of installation.

• Ideal when plumbing long continuous runs.

• The Cobra Safe Piping system is fully SABS approved.

The Cobra Safe SLP & MLP piping system is SABS approved to SANS 15875 for cross-
linked polyethylene piping systems (PE-X), for use for hot and cold water installations
inside buildings only and is to be installed to SANS 10252 part 1.
 SINGLE LAYER PIPE FITTINGS - PE-XA
High density polyethylene, molecularly cross-linked for additional strength using the
Peroxide (PE-Xa) method.

PE-Xa

The PE-Xa pipe used in Cobra Single Layer Pipe system is

manufactured from high grade polyethylene raw material and
peroxide using a unique patented cross-linking process. This
process ensures that the long grained molecules are totally cross-
linked within a few minutes of the extrusion process. This means
that we avoid loss of temperature in the pipe prior to post
production heat treatment. The perfect link is thereby ensured.

The process is completed using a sophisticated extrusion plant

which regulates the tension of the extrusion during the
manufacture to maintain exact dimensions of the pipe

The Cobra single layer pipe system is designed to be used with the
Cobra Compression fittings and inserts.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Cut pipe to length using cutting tool for Compression nut is placed over the pipe
Cobra - Safe system (MLP-CUT) followed by compression ring then insert

Fit nut, compression ring Select the desired Cobra compression

and insert (MLP-INS) fittings & repeat connection process.

Tighten joint: when tightening a compression

fitting nut; tighten nut until the pipe is gripped
& can only be rotated in the fitting by hand
with difficulty, then, tighten the nut 1 ¼ turns.

High density polyethylene, molecularly cross-linked for additional strength using the
Silthane (PE-X) method.

PE-X Inner Layer

Longitudinally welded aluminum layer

Bonded to inner and outer layers.

PE-X Outer Layer

• MLP system cannot be used outside (SANS 21003-1)

• MLP System can not be used in Solar installations unless it is plumbed from
the tempering valve which is found on the inside of the building.
• MLP system can not be used in industrial installations.

• The aluminium layer retains rigidity at high temperatures maintaining the integrity of

the system.
