Chillers, air and water cooled, featuring

centrifugal compressors with magnetic

levitation, from 200 to 1.949 kW
2 l 3
Today's office buildings, hotels, large shopping and
leisure complexes, all the most prestigious projects
require leading edge solutions to meet extremely
demanding challenges:

Very strict energy efficiency and

sustainability requirements
Reduced initial investment and running costs, compliance with
increasingly strict energy consumption and environmental impact
regulations, are becoming more and more crucial factors not only for real
estate valuation, but also in deciding if the project should proceed.

Precise attention to comfort and noise

emissions
To guarantee ideal temperature, humidity and air quality goes together
with the need to reduce noise emissions and vibrations. This is a decisive
aspect in order to ensure adequate comfort, as well as to comply with
noise emission regulations.

Complex architecture and logistics

The search for prestigious central locations together with regulations and
incentives for requalification of urban areas increase the building site
logistical complexity and the challenge of moving the system’s
components.

Infrastructure and technical space

optimization
The real estate value, especially with expensive, prestigious investment in
urban environments may be determined also by the quality of the
electrical system installed. Hence, choices that do not overload electrical
infrastructure are more and more desirable.
Resulting from Climaveneta’s experience in utilizing
magnetic levitation technology in air-conditioning and
process cooling industries, TECS Vision 2.0 air and
water source chillers are the most efficient and reliable
solution available in the market today.

4 l 5
ESEER 9,52 for TECS2-W with all the advantages in terms of
reliability and technical support, due to Climaveneta’s unbeatable
knowhow of this technology, for a truly ideal answer to the challenge
of the most demanding applications:

Ubeatable efficiency
at part load
At partial load, TECS units are far more efficient than traditional
scroll/screw units, with ESEER values up to 60% higher.
Running cost savings are evident and consistent, especially when all year
round operation is required.

Extremely silent operation

Thanks to the adoption of the centrifugal compressor with magnetic
levitation, and, in air source units, of fans with reduced noise emission,
TECS sound power and pressure are the lowest on the market, without
peaks in any of the sound frequency spectrum.
Vibrations are dramatically reduced as well, with considerable advantages
in terms of transmission to the building..

Simplified logistics
Turbocor compressors feature an extremely advantageous
capacity / weight ratio.
The considerable weight reduction allows simplified site operations.
Moreover, for water source units this goes together with reduced
dimensions, thus enabling also a reduction of plantroom space.

Low in rush current

A further benefit is the very low inrush current, obtained thanks to the
characteristics of the compressor and to the “inverter” starting. This is a
crucial factor, as it allows a more favourable selection of the protection
devices to be placed on the power supply between transformer and unit.
Centrifugal compressor with
magnetic levitation
This is a miniaturized, highly innovative compressor, with
magnetic levitation device and digital control of the rotor’s
speed. The efficiencies achieved are far superior to those with
traditional volumetric compressors.
Inverter controls with inlet guide vanes extend the
compressor’s operational limit: building requirements are
precisely met, even at very low conditions.

A solution that, besides the reduction of weight and dimensions

EC Fans
On TECS2 units, the technology of EC electronic switching
fans is introduced, as standard on SL-CA-E versions and
optional on the other models.

Efficiency, silent operation and reliability. And also compact

features that make TECS units the best result of
Climaveneta’s know-how. Advantages that result from
technological choices, involving each aspect of these units.

Flooded evaporator
The technology of flooded evaporator, further enhanced
the absence of oil in the refrigerant circuits, realises a
substantial increase of cooling capacity and an optimization in
the compressor’s operational mode. The unit’s overall
efficiency further increases thanks to:
compression ratio reduction thanks to a smaller approach
theoretic absence of refrigerant superheat at the
compressor’s suction stage
minimization of refrigerant pressure drop on the
evaporator’s shell side
optimization of the exchange surfaces, also at part loads,
thanks to the complete control of the refrigerant level in all
operating conditions.
To comply with the security requirements of the “F-gas
Regulation” (CE 842//2006), factory calibrated leak detection
systems are available upon request.

Electronic valve
The electronic valve is adopted to grant the ideal operation of
the evaporator in all conditions.
In the water cooled unit TECS2-W, the complete flooding of
tubes is granted with a sophisticated detection of the
refrigerant level in the heat exchangers, while in the air cooled
unit the control is made with a precise measurement of the
subcooling in the condenser coil.

The fast processing of the acquired data allow a quick,

fluctuation-free regulation, and therefore a highly accurate

Climaveneta's system advantages vs traditional solutions

The Climaveneta Oasis solution offers many advantages even if compared to

systems with pressurized atomizers which spray water directly to the coil:

No dedicated pumps: the water is taken direktly from tap water.

No limescale on the coil: the water is sprayed toward the plastic net, and
not toward the coil.
Easy application - it's possible to use common supply water, no need for
special water treatment.
Minimized risk of bacterial population increase: recirculated water loop
does not exist; water immediately evaporates when sprayed on the net.

Oasis kit performance

The table on the right shows the effects of Oasis kit in relation to outside air temperature and relative humidity.
It is clear that, the higher the air temperature and lower the air humidity, the higher the system’s effectiveness: in these
conditions infact, as higher waterflow is sprayed to the net, and most of it evaporate thanks to the energy given by the
airflow through the net, water evaporates and air is cooled.

Willis Building 2005-2007

Designed by:
Foster & Partners

Project
The latest striking addition to the London sky-line is the iconic Willis building.
Designed by Foster and Partners, it is the City of London’s fourth highest skyscraper
and will provide high quality contemporary office accommodation for Willis Group, the
world's third largest insurance broker.

Challenge
This masterpiece of architecture comprising two adjoining structures of 10 and 28
storeys has already achieved an excellent environmental assessment award, with a
10 out of 10 BREEAM rating.

To achieve this standard required an air conditioning system designed to the most
stringent requirements. The system, besides ensuring highest energy efficiency, also
ensures lowest noise emissions, compact sizing of transformer and power supply,
and the most favourable selection of the protection devices between these devices
and the unit.

Solution
For the consulting engineer, RPP, the most suitable choice was based on compact
TECS mini centrifugal air cooled chillers, 5 for the Tower and 2 for the adjoining
Fenchurch Avenue Building. They allow simplified logistics, unbeatable energy
efficiency at part loads, lowest inrush current and extremely quiet operation.
Hydronic fan coils in the false ceilings ensure optimum comfort conditions with
minimal aesthetic impact to the office interiors.

The consultant's opinion

Mr. T Maynard
"Choosing Climaveneta chillers has proved to be an investment in reliability and
efficiency, significantly contributing to the project’s success. Their adoption provides
unbeatable efficiency, which was among the main system requirements, whereas the
comprehensive support we received from the company, enabled us to develop with
the architect an air conditioning system that is a benchmark for efficiency and
optimized investments".

oric and iconic world class rugby stadium and now also a top concert venue and a leading
eisure and business destination, Twickenham Stadium is the home of England Rugby
l Union and the largest rugby stadium in the world, with a capacity of 82,000 seats.

allenge
cent South Stand redevelopment, completed by the beginning of the Stadium’s 100th
, comprises 25 conference rooms, 4 suites of various capacities up to 800 seats and a
ar hotel, offering integrated conference and exhibition space, 365 days a year. All these
s required an air conditioning solution providing perfect comfort with highest possible
efficiency and complete reliability.

Solution
For Twickenham Stadium’s best comfort, the consultant Cundall Johnston & Partners LLP,
selected 7 Climaveneta super compact TECS air cooled chillers. Featuring highest part load
efficiency and extremely silent operation, they achieve excellent energy and operational cost
savings. Moreover the very low noise emissions, extremely low starting current and compact
size of the units proved to be the ideal choice, assuring simplified logistics and extremely silent
operation.

The consultant's opinion

Mr. A Centola
“Climaveneta chillers provided the necessary energy and acoustic performance. At the same
time the Company has an enviable reputation for efficiency and reliability and the widest
experience in sport applications and in the use of magnetic levitation technology. Having
already carried out many successful projects with them, we had no hesitation to select them
also for the Twickenham Stadium.”

Abbey (Santander) Bank services company

with 1300 branches
in the whole country

Project
In 2007 Abbey (Santander) Bank launched an ambitious programme to replace existing old and
expensive-to-run chillers with more efficient units. A project aimed to reduce expenses as well
as assisting the environmental impact of the financial group operations through increased energy
savings for its air-conditioning systems.

Challenge
Involving the replacement of a large amount of units over several years, the selection of the new
units meant not only efficiency and robustness of the solution, but also reliability of the partner
and quality of service. Given the great variety of installations and systems, also the range
extension and the flexibility of the offer were crucial in order to approach the project in a rational
and effective way.

Solution
After thorough examination of a number of alternatives, Abbey consultants chose Climaveneta
TECS units for all projects where chillers over 350kW were required. Utilising compressors with
magnetic levitation, these units guarantee highest efficiency, without equal compared with any
other technology. On the other hand Climaveneta expertise with TECS chillers, proven by over
500 units installed all over the world was the best guarantee of the robustness required. Air and
water source, ranging from 200 to 2000kW, these units ensured an ideal flexibility, enhanced
also by their compact dimensions. Numbers are the best proof of these advantages, with 13
units installed since 2007 for more than 10.000kW total capacity.

The consultant’s opinion

Mr. John Samson
“When we analysed the available solutions, Powermaster - Climaveneta distributor for the U.K.-
invited us to compare TECS units performance with those of traditional screw chillers. Results
were striking. This, together with the reliability ensured by Climaveneta's experience with these
units and by the high quality service performed by Powermaster, left us in no doubt about
choosing them as partners for this project.”
IKEA Rimini store Rimini - Italy
2007-2008

Project
Care for environment and sustainability are among IKEA core values. The desire to minimise the
carbon footprint throughout the whole value chain is reflected also by the continuous research of
high efficiency innovative solutions for its stores.

Challenge
Envisioned by an uncompromised approach to energy efficiency and sustainability achieved by
blending cutting edge technologies and renewable resources in an unprecedented system
solution, the air conditioning and heating system of the Rimini IKEA store has been, since the
very beginning, a point of reference both for retail solutions and for the air conditioning systems.
This geothermal application couples water cooled units with a ground source system. It meets
the difficult challenge of sizing geothermal probes in order to optimize and balance the heat
exchange both during winter and summer mode, employing at the same time the best
performing units on the market in order to maximize global performances both in heating and
cooling mode.

Solution
For the building services engineer of the IKEA Group, Mr. Giuseppini, to choose Climaveneta as a
partner was the first step in order to guarantee the success of this project. The system is based
on 2 high efficiency water cooled reversible TECS units.
Utilizing geothermal probes to absorb heat during winter and reject it during summer, the
operating conditions are always optimized and the TECS efficiency is at its peak with EER up to
15,0. The energy saving is further enhanced thanks to the variable flow pumps precise
management, which has been integrated into Climaveneta’s solution.

The consultant's opinion

Mr. S. Giuseppini
“Since the project required a highly innovative solution, we needed not only reliability and
Studio Tecnico Impianti experience but the best possible know how in utilizing all the benefits of magnetic levitation
technology in units providing both heating and cooling within a very complex system.
Ing. Sergio Giuseppini Climaveneta has been the ideal partner, both for its expertise with these applications as well as
for the unchallenged capability to develop custom made solutions and for the high pre and after
sales service level provided.”

Kings Place Designed by:
Dixon Jones

Project
Designed by architects Dixon-Jones, Kings Place brings together in an iconic environmentally
sustainable mixed-use building a major arts venue hub, elegantly situated bars and dining areas,
an excellent conference and events centre, and a Grade A office complex.

Challenge
Being the first modern recital hall built in London, Kings Place was featured by extremely difficult
design challenges. As a major concert and music hub, it required perfect noise insulation both
from outside as well as between different halls, and perfect acoustics inside each room.
Building regulations limited at 7 storeys the height of the building, thus imposing great focus on
space optimization, to be combined with highest sustainability and refined aesthetics. These
challenges were reflected by extremely demanding air conditioning requirements.

Solution
Climaveneta super low noise water cooled TECS chillers were the ideal solution for Arup
Consultants in charge of the project. Their compact dimensions perfectly suited the installation
requirements and their high efficiency strongly contributed to enhance the BREEAM rating of the
building. The noise levels of the mini centrifugal compressors with magnetic levitations, together
with the extended Climaveneta experience in theatre applications, assured perfect comfort with
no compromises on the acoustics.

The consultant's opinion

Mr. Nick Merridew
“Technical systems were crucial for this project's success. We knew that Climaveneta was able
to ensure the reliable tailor-made solution we were looking for, thanks to their know-how in
mastering magnetic levitation technology and their experience with theatres and concert halls.
Moreover the extended factory witness testing after unit manufacture and thorough pre and after
sales support they offer, have been of great help in identifying the ideal solution for this
complex.”
