In this problem we were ask to build house. The house will have two 4-foot windows on
two sides of the house. Also there will be two sides that will have 2-foot doors in the other two
sides of house.The rest of the house will have eight sections of equal measurements. Our task
is to figure out how long each material needs to be to start building the house.

First we started by writing down all the given numbers in the entry document. Then we
made a sketch plugging all the known information. Then we had to figure out an equation to
start solving the problem. Since the area was given we used LxW=A. For the length we got
x+4+x by taking a look at the sketch and it was given. The same process was due for the width
our width is x + 2 + x. Then we just plug in all the numbers and the equation will be
−b ± √ ❑
250 = (2x + 4)(2x + 2). x=
❑
Now in order to start using the quadratic formula we have to make our equation to 0. We
did it by subtracting 250 on both sides. The equation we got after subtracting was
2 ❑
0=4 x +12 x−242 .
Now we can use the quadratic formula but first we have to find A,B and C and plug it into the
quadratic formula. A is 4, B is 12 and C is 242 and then we just add it to the quadratic formula
The math learned during this house building problem were two different methods. The
first thing I learned was factoring and that was the first step needed to start solving this problem.
Then we realized that the equation was not factorable and we had to do an extra step. The last
step needed and learned from this problem was the Quadratic formula. I also struggle because
at first I didn’t get it and when I don’t get something I give up easily but for this project it was not
the case I actually put effort into it.
