CONCEPT
The Manila International Piano Masterclasses Festival is a 10-day intimate yet intensive music camp to be held in the City of Makati,
centrally located in Metro Manila, the capital of the Philippines. It will be the first piano festival in the country set in a 19th Century salon
style environment. The Festival welcomes pianists of all nationalities, intermediate-level & above, but limited to only Twenty-Four (24)
slots. Recitals, master classes, performance revues, and lessons, will be conducted by eminent guest concert pianists & pedagogues. The
Festival Final Concerts will feature all the participating Delegates in two solo concerts. A day will be dedicated to an excursion as well.

VENUES
The 50-minute one-on-one Lessons, Master Classes, Performance Revues, and the Artists-Faculty Recitals will be held at various venues
to be announced at the Orientation on August 4. Up to three Ebony Package Delegates of the same gender will share a hotel room at the
Makati Shangri-La Hotel (http://www.shangri-la.com/manila/makatishangrila/about/) inclusive of breakfasts. Practice room facilities will
be provided at the hotel. There will be two Festival Final Concerts on August 12: the Matinee will be held at the MSL Lobby Lounge,
while the Gala will be held at the Manila Pianos Showroom.

EBONY PACKAGE €1,000 (US$1,220 / PhP63,000). For Pianists who will reside in the camp. Package is
inclusive of active participation in Lessons, Master Classes, Performance Revues, and the
Festival Final Concerts. The package also includes hotel accommodations with breakfast,
practice facilities, the excursion, and the attendance of Artist-Faculty Recitals. Twenty-
four slots are available. The fee is payable on or before Friday, 15 June 2018 via bank
transfer to the account above.

IVORY PACKAGE €600 (US$730 / PhP38,000). For Pianists who will commute to the camp. Package is
inclusive of active participation in Lessons, Master Classes, Performance Revues, & the
Festival Final Concerts, and the attendance of Artist-Faculty Recitals only. Hotel
accommodations with breakfast, the excursion, and practice facilities, are not included.
The fee is payable on or before Friday, 15 June 2018 via bank transfer to the account
above.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships will be made available for a selected number of applicants in financial need. The schedule and venue of the live audition will be
announced at a later date. Foreign applicants would need to send a video recording of a previous live solo recital or a new video recording of
at least four (4) works covering at least three (3) main periods of the piano literature, not necessarily to be performed in the festival.

ARTIST-FACULTY ROSTER

NELSON DELLE-VIGNE FABBRI (Italy/France)


The Italian virtuoso NELSON DELLE-VIGNE FABBRI was born in Argentina,
where he was instructed by Magda Tagliaferro, Gyorgy Cziffra, and Claudio Arrau. In
addition to his performing and recording career that took him to several continents,
Maestro Delle-Vigne Fabbri is also a famed international piano pedagogue. Teaching at
the Ecole Normale "Alfred Cortot" in Paris for 40 years, he was also appointed professor
extraordinaire at the Chapelle Musicale "Reine Elisabeth" in Belgium and Honorary
Professor at the Palm Beach Atlantic University, Florida, USA. He gives regularly
master classes in France, China, Lithuania, Russia, Taiwan, Canada, USA, Portugal,
Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Greece, South Korea, etc. Maestro Delle-
Vigne Fabbri collaborated to the festivities of the European Union Day in Seoul, South
Korea, by special invitation of the European ambassador. Cultural and pedagogical broadening is an important
goal of his duties as general director of the Bell'Arte Foundation. Maestro Delle-Vigne Fabbri is also the artistic
director of MusicA Braine l'Alleud, the Paris International Summer Sessions, LyricA Braine l'Alleud and of the
EMS Music Group, a record company and record studio. He is the founder and artistic director of The
International Certificate for Piano Artists (http://www.internationalcertificate.org), a pedagogical programme in
collaboration with many international institutions with sessions in the U.S., Russia, Italy, Lithuania, Taiwan,
Spain, Poland, among many others. After Philippe Entremont's 10-year presidency, the programme is currently
placed under the presidency of Belgian composer Jean Kluger. Jerome Lowenthal is its vice-president.

CHIARA CIPELLI (Italy)


CHIARA CIPELLI was born in Codogno, Italy, and started studying the
piano at a very early age. Awarded several scholarships, she graduated with
Highest Honours from the Conservatorio G. Nicolini in Piacenza, Italy, under
the guidance of Lucia Romanini, and from Hochschule für Musik Freiburg
where she studied with James Avery and Chamber Music with Felix Gottlieb.
She continued her studies with Nelson Delle Vigne Fabbri at Ecole Normale de
Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris where she was awarded the A. Roussel
scholarship and obtained the Diplome Superieur de Piano. She was a prize
winner of international competitions such as the Coppa Pianisti d'Italia-Osimo, Rassegna Kawai Como, Premio
Carlo Soliva, Casale Monferrato, Pavia Piano Competition, Premio Città di Pisa, Premio Città di Cesenatico,
International Piano Competition Città di Pietra Ligure, and the International Piano Competition Fausto Zadra
Abano Terme. Ms. Cipelli has performed in numerous concert halls in Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Taiwan,
USA, and Canada, receiving outstanding reviews. As soloist, she has performed with the Palm Beach Symphony
Orchestra, the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra Pomeriggi
Musicali of Milan, and Gruppo Strumentale Ciampi. She has also participated in numerous festivals such as the
Schlern International Music Festival, Alto Adige, Festival Europeo of Atri, Settimana Organistica
Internazionale, Bibiena Arts Festival, Mito Festival di Milano, Thueringen Chamber Music Festival, Banff
International Music Festival in Canada, the Palm Beach Piano Festival in Florida, and the Taiwan International
Piano Festival. Ms. Cipelli is currently Professor of Piano at the Scuola Civica di Musica C. Monteverdi in
Cremona, and the Istituto Superiore Studi Musicali "A. Peri" Reggio Emilia and holds Masterclasses in Italy,
Spain, France, and Belgium.
JOVIANNEY EMMANUEL CRUZ (Philippines)
JOVIANNEY EMMANUEL CRUZ is an internationally & multi-awarded Filipino concert
pianist gifted with a rare versatility. Aside from his critically-acclaimed solo & chamber music
recitals, or his concerts as a soloist with major orchestras worldwide, Mr. Cruz was a prizewinner in
numerous international piano competitions in Europe and the United States. A former child
prodigy, Mr. Cruz began his piano studies at the age of three with his mother, Lourdes L.
Villanueva-Cruz. At age 6, he was invited to give a command performance at the Malacañang
Palace and at age 10, he made his orchestral debut with the Philippine Youth Orchestra after
winning First Prize in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists. In 1977, Sir Lennox
Berkeley granted him a full scholarship to the Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester,
England. He then transferred to New York to pursue scholarships at the Manhattan School of
Music, where he was a pupil of Solomon Mikowsky. At MSM, Mr. Cruz was a winner of both the
Preparatory and College Divisions Concerto Competitions and a recipient of the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation, the
Elva Van Gelder, and the Anne-Marie McDermott Memorial Scholarships. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music
Degrees in Piano Performance, and was awarded the coveted Harold Bauer Award. As a mentor, Mr. Cruz has produced prize-
winning students, and is constantly invited to give master classes worldwide. As an artistic director and concert producer, he is
one of the pioneers for the renaissance of Classical Music awareness in the Philippines. He is a Co-Founder & the Artistic
Director of ANG MISYON – the largest El Sistema-inspired program in Southeast Asia that provides free music education,
orchestral performance opportunities, and social values to the less privileged Filipino youth. Mr. Cruz has been invited as a
Juror in the 1st ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition in Kuala Lumpur, the Steinway Youth Piano Competition,
and frequently as an Adjudicator in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. In 2010, Mr. Cruz was chosen as one of twelve
international Artists to inaugurate the Solomon Gadles Mikowsky Recital Hall in New York, and was also invited to
inaugurate the piano recital series at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia. In celebration of Franz Liszt’s
bicentenary, the Italian piano-makers Fazioli invited him to perform at Taiwan’s National Concert Hall. In 1996, President
Fidel V. Ramos conferred on Mr. Cruz The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award for his contribution to the Arts in the
Philippines.

ADAM KENT (U.S.A.)


ADAM KENT has performed in recital, as soloist with orchestra, and in chamber music throughout
North America, Europe, and Latin America. A winner of the American Pianists Association
Fellowship and Simone Belsky Music Awards, Dr. Kent also received top prizes in the Thomas
Richner, the Juilliard Concerto, and the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competitions, and is a
recipient of the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the Harold Bauer Award. Dr. Kent made his New
York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall in 1989. Spanish music has been a specialty of Dr. Kent’s,
whose advocacy has been acknowledged by the Spanish government on numerous occasions. In
2011, King Juan Carlos I of Spain honored the pianist by bestowing Spain’s Orden al Mérito Civil,
and the Consulate General of Spain in NY underwrote Dr. Kent’s course on the history of Spanish
music at Brooklyn College. The Spanish Consulate has also sponsored his numerous appearances at
NY’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Spanish Ministry for Education and Culture
awarded him a grant for Músicapordoquier/Hispanic Music Everywhere, a year-long celebration of
Spanish and Latin-American in NYC with the Damocles Trio and Spanish composer and conductor Salvador Brotons. The
Foundation for Iberian Music at the CUNY Graduate Center and the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU have also
sponsored a number of Dr. Kent’s Hispanic-themed projects, including commissions of new works by Tania León, Salvador
Brotons, Miguel-Ángel Roig-Francolì, and others. Dr. Kent’s critically acclaimed recording of the complete piano works of
Ernesto Halffter is available on Bridge Records, and a recent performance of Book I of Albéniz’s Iberia suite was praised in the
Indianapolis Star as “Albénizian to the core...his suave legato touch wedded to a tone with an Old World patina about it.”
Excelsior of Mexico City enthused about a recent all-Spanish recital, “Adam Kent brought not only magnificent technical
ability to the music, but managed to go beyond the printed page, delving into the essence of what the composer sought to
express.” Summers find Dr. Kent serving as Director of Cultural Outreach at the Burgos International Music Festival in
Spain and teaching and performing at the Summit Music Festival in N.Y, Alberta Pianofest in Canada, and the Cursos de
Verano of the Fundación Princesa de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain. Since 2016, Dr. Kent has served as a professor of music at
the State University of New York at Oneonta. He received a D.M.A. from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Jerome
Lowenthal and served as an adjunct professor. His dissertation, The Use of Catalan Folk Materials in the Works of Federico
Mompou and Joaquín Nin-Culmell, was awarded the school’s Richard F. French Prize. He holds as well B.M. and M.M. degrees
from Manhattan School of Music as a pupil of Solomon Mikowsky.
ROBERTA RUST (U.S.A.)
ROBERTA RUST has concertized to critical acclaim around the globe, with performances at such
venues as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, New York's Merkin Concert Hall, Rio de Janeiro's Sala
Cecilia Meireles, Washington's Corcoran Gallery, and Seoul's KNUA Hall. Hailed for her recordings
on the Centaur and Protone labels, Rust has appeared with the Lark, Ying, and Amernet String
Quartets, the Cole Duo, and at Miami's Mainly Mozart Festival, the Philippines' Opusfest, the Palm
Beach Chamber Music Festival, Festival Miami, Long Island's Beethoven Festival, and France's La
Gesse. Her concerto appearances have included engagements with the Houston Symphony, Philippine
Philharmonic, New Philharmonic, Redlands Symphony, Boca Raton Symphonia, Knox-Galesburg
Symphony, New World Symphony, Lynn Philharmonia, and orchestras in Latin America. Dr. Rust
serves on the artist faculty as professor of piano and head of the piano department at the Lynn
University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida. In 2016 she received the Deanne and
Gerald Gitner and Family Excellence in Teaching Award. She has given master classes throughout Asia and the Americas and
at the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, the University of Florida International Piano Festival and the Fondation Bell'Arte
International Certificate of Piano Artists program. Rust has served as a competition adjudicator for the New World
Symphony, the Chautauqua and Brevard Festivals, and the Colburn School's Music Academy. A National Endowment for
the Arts grant recipient, she has served as US artistic ambassador and has received prizes and recognition from the
Organization of American States, National Society of Arts & Letters, and International Concours de Fortepiano (Paris).
Born in Texas of American Indian ancestry, Rust studied at the Peabody Conservatory, graduated summa cum laude from the
University of Texas at Austin, and earned performer's certificates in piano and German Lieder from the Mozarteum in
Salzburg. A student of Ivan Davis, Artur Balsam, John Perry, and Phillip Evans, she received a master's degree from the
Manhattan School of Music and a doctorate from the University of Miami. Master class studies were with Gary Graffman,
Leon Fleisher, Carlo Zecchi, and Erik Werba.
