This rubric is designed to assess students on a part recording quiz of various pieces used throughout the semester.
Beginner
Tone
The student displays a tone that is overly
breathy or suffers from a great deal of
nasality.
Intonation
The student displays a general lack of
ability to match pitch and sing consistently
in the key of the piece
Rhythm
The student displays inaccurate rhythms
and displays an inconsistent feeling of
pulse.
Dynamics
The student displays little to no
connection to dynamic variation/Dynamic
choices do not match the markings within
the music.
Approaching
The student displays a tone that is finds a
healthy balance between breathiness and
nasality, but is inconsistent in maintaining
that balance.
The student is able to stay relatively
within the key. Sometimes leaving the key
area, but making their way back.
The student is able to keep the pulse
through most of the passage and sings
some of the rhythms correctly.
The student displays some dynamic
variation/Dynamic choices match some of
the markings within the music.

The student displays a tone that is
consistently balanced in a rich and
healthy way.
The student consistently sings in tune and
has both great intonation on individual
pitches and stays strongly in the key.
The student keeps a steady pulse while
singing most to all correct rhythms.
The student displays most to all dynamic
markings with a great deal of clarity.
