the orchestra and the singers completed the performance.
This Sunday is Pentecost. And it occurs to me that
Pentecost is about the gift of uncompleted work that
has been handed down to us so that we might finish the
music. At his Ascension, Jesus prepared his disciples for
his departure by saying: “Do not leave Jerusalem until the
Father sends you the promised gift of the Holy Spirit…
you will receive power when the Spirit comes upon you.
And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me
everywhere.”
That was Jesus’ way of affirming that Pentecost is about
the Spirit coming upon us so that we might finish the work
that he had started. What a responsibility…and what a
privilege! One writer put it this way:
He came singing love.
He lived singing love.
He died singing love.
If the song is to continue,
We must do the singing!
Sunday we will continue our FEAR: Faith Unleashed
in Everyday Life message series. Our focus will be on
Personal Spiritual Disciplines, the third big catalyst God
uses to deepen our Christian discipleship, and we’ll talk
about the Holy Spirit’s role in taking our faith in God to
deeper levels. We will also honor a very special group
of MUMC 50-year members and proudly recognize our
Graduating High School Seniors. It will be a great day in
worship, and I hope to see you there.
Open Door Hosts Movie Night
MUMC Open Door Ministry, in partnership with The Center
Project, will host a viewing of “Gender Revolution”
on June 12 at 6:30pm. This 2017 National Geographic
documentary, hosted by Katie Couric, explores the rapidly
evolving complexities of gender identity. The evening will
also include an opportunity for discussion and socializing.
Leadership Opportunities
We’d like to thank a few of our long-time, faithful
volunteers who are moving on to serve in other ways,
and let you know about a few opportunities to lead in
important ministries of the church.
• Acolyte Coordinator: Eric Hucker has served in this
role but is moving to Jefferson City.
• CROP Walk Coordinator: Cleo Kottwitz has served us
well and is seeking someone to fill his shoes.
• Saturday Breakfast Cafe Coordinator: Emily Murray
has led this volunteer coordination effort for many
years and would like to find a new coordinator.
All of these volunteers have enjoyed their roles and
would be more than happy to share their knowledge

Foundation Scholarships
The Board of Directors of the Foundation of the Missouri
United Methodist Church administers a scholarship fund.
Awards are made to persons who need financial help
while preparing for careers in church-related vocations.
The recipient may attend any school recognized by the
United Methodist Church and by the Board of Directors of
the Foundation of MUMC for educating religious workers.
An applicant should have completed at least two years
of college work. Interested applicants should request a
scholarship application by e-mailing scholarships@moumc.
org, or by visiting moumc.org/scholarships. The deadline
for all materials is June 30, 2018.
Medical Equipment Available
MUMC has a supply of donated medical equipment for the
use of those in need of such items. Currently, the Caring
Ministries Team has four walkers, one rollator, one shower
stool, three bedside commodes, one overbed table, one
regular cane, four footed canes, one attachable handle
for a bathtub, and multiple crutches. Please contact the
office if you would like to borrow or donate.

Festival of Sharing 2018

UMW Sophia Circle will have an informational display
in the Connector May 20. We will be collecting for the
Readin’ & Writin’ Kit (not my grammar). We will accept
kits members of the congregation wish to assemble on
their own and bring to us this Sunday, as well as monetary
donations to be sent to the church office.

Invest in Our Youth!

We are seeking “shareholders” who are willing to make
an investment in the lives of our youth here at MUMC. Our
youth have two mission trips scheduled for this Summer.
Middle School youth are going to Heifer International
in Perryville, Arkansas. High School Youth are going to
Parsons, Kansas where they will partner with Group New Worship Prayer Emphasis
Missions. You can buy a “share” for $25, with the proceeds On Sunday, May 20, we will begin a 72-day Prayer
