Bohemia
SARA COLMAN started out on piano and was writing songs
in her teens even before she studied music at the
First Friday of
Birmingham Conservatoire. Her debut solo album
“Spellbound” was original material and her writing and
arranging skills have led to commissions for artist such as

Black Voices. Sara was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 “Sold
on Song” songwriting competition. Her formidable talent is
just emerging on the national scene and she was among
the elite group of artists selected for the Jerwood series of
Rising Star concerts at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Friday 1st Oct
Lluis Mather is a Birmingham based saxophonist in his fourth
and final year studying at the highly respected Birmingham
Conservatoire. Originally from near Leicester, Lluis was raised
through the Leicester Arts big bands, and was taught by
saxophonists Dave Graham and Pete Lloyd. In 2004 he joined
the internationally renowned Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra
(unbeaten in the BBC big band competition). In this band he
quickly matured, learning from the experience of playing
Steve Tromans / Aaron Diaz alongside well respected guest artists (Dave O’Higgins, Henry
Lowther, Stan Sultzmann, Jacqui Dankworth to name but a few)

Composer-pianist-arranger-researcher Steve Tromans graduated


from Birmingham Conservatoire in 1997 with first class honours. His
composition tutor was the then composer-in-residence, John Mayer,
pioneer of World Jazz with his double quintet with saxophonist Joe

Aaron Diaz is a Trumpeter, Improviser and Composer based in Book Online


Birmingham. Growing up on the hills of Dartmoor he moved to the
city in 2004 to attend Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied
