CLAT 2018 Exam Analysis By AB Tutorials

CLAT 2018, conducted this year by NUALS, Kochi was held on May 13, 2018 between 3:00 pm
and 5:00 pm. This was the first year that CLAT experimented with Sify instead of TCS. It was
marred with technical glitches and mismanagement at centres at different levels. The common
complaints received from students were as follows.

1. First 10 mins coded language was seen on the screen and upon restarting the computer
the timer did not reset and 10 mins were lost
2. Malfunction of software and in QA section not more than 9 questions were visible
3. Computers were regularly hanging affecting the speed at which students were
attempting the paper
4. Due to the 10 mins debacle at the start of the exam due to delay in action by invigilators
lot of students got agitated and that affected even the other students who were there
at the centre but did not have any problem with their systems.
5. Some students have complained saying that some students although didn’t have any
technical errors in their system used this as an excuse to seek additional time.

In terms of difficulty it would be the same except that the technical issues will cause the cut
off to come down a little.

The paper had a total of 200 questions in five sections - English, GK, Logical Reasoning,
Mathematics, and Legal Aptitude and reasoning. There was negative marking of 0.25 for every
wrong question marked.

All the questions have been located at AB Tutorials study modules and online myo sectional tests
and those students who had revised AB Tutorials study modules and online tests as was advised will
not have any problem in this section and would expect 40 marks without any difficulty. It was
already predicted for the students that they should prepare basis 40-42 questions coming from CA.

This section had primarily Analytical Reasoning. Sitting Arrangements, Direction senses, Blood
Relations, Series, coding decoding and ranking appeared in the section. Overall it was a moderate
section in terms of Analytical Reasoning. Very less crtical reasoning was there in the section.
