EXPOSITORY AND CURSIVE WRITING ASSESSMENT

Objective: Students will write legibly in cursive.

Students discuss and keep a list of ideas for writing. They use graphic organizers. Students write
clear, coherent, and focused essays. Students’ progress through the stages of the writing
process and proofread, edit, and revise writing

Standard: 5 WRITING: Applications


Through the exploration of different types of writing and the characteristics of each, students
become proficient at narrative (stories), expository (informational), descriptive (sensory),
persuasive (emotional appeal), argumentative (logical defense), and technical writing. Writing
demonstrates an awareness of the audience (intended reader) and purpose for writing.

Assignment: Write an expository essay about what you are planning to do this summer.

Include the following instructions when writing your descriptive essay.


 Create a beginning, middle and end to your essay writing at least four
paragraphs.
 Describe your situation with a setting, plot, and a conclusion.
 Use descriptive words to make your writing interesting…your readers
should be able to visualize what you write.
 Write your essay in legible cursive writing.
 Use correct spelling of word choices.
 Proofread your writing making sure to use correct sentence structure.
 Edit and rewrite your essay using the following rubric as a guide.
