Race is defined as
 A group of people that share the similar characteristics such as common language,
religion, cultures, live in a similar territory, live in the same country and become a
citizen.
 A big group of people who have moral ideals and law which is bounded by desire,
experiences past history and stays within the territory if a country.
 A group of people who have a common identity and speak the same language,
having their own religion, ideologies and culture.
 A group of people who have originated from the same descent.

Core Elements About Race by Friedrich Hertz are:


1. The desire to achieve national unity consisting of social cohesion, economic, political,
religious, cultural, communication and solidarity.
2. The desire to be independence, excellence, individualism, originality, or uniqueness.
3. The desire to stand out among the nations excel in the pursuit of honour, influence and
position.

Language is defined as
 A communication tool used by every member in the community in any one race to
communicate and interact with each other
 An important medium of information shared between members of society
 A tool for racial unity in Malaysia

Social structure (Society) is defined as


 A group of people who are related and they perform activities collectively while living
together

6 Important Elements That Are Used to Classify A Society


1. Live in groups
2. Practice similar cultures
3. Always a tendency to change
4. Sharing and caring
5. Presence of leadership qualities
6. Presence of social class
Belief is defined as
 A state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
 Part of the core of moral development (Context of religion)

Custom and rituals are defined as


 Rules and norms that are and have been in practice by a group of people through
many generations.
 Practices in all situations related to eating, tradition, custom of engagement, marriage
and birth.

The Importance of Socio-awareness to Teachers in Malaysia


1. To develop friendly relationships among school children
2. To become social agents and play the roles to build a progressive and prosperous
Malaysia
3. To create a conducive classroom environment
4. Avoid from speaking something sensitive about to races and religious that may
become issues
5. To promote tolerance and cooperation in the formation of a Greater Malaysia
6. To improve self-knowledge about other cultures.
