Summary of Invasiveness
Top of page
Foeniculum vulgare is a herbaceous plant in the family Apiaceae (formerly Umbelliferae). It
probably originated from southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. It is cultivated
throughout much of the world as a spice, medicinal or essential oil plant, or as a vegetable, and
has become naturalized in many places. Its ability to outcompete native plants means that it is
considered as invasive (mostly in natural habitats rather than agricultural land) in California, New
Zealand, significant parts of Australia and a number of locations in the Pacific.
