The Acceptance Speech
Scene One: Award Ceremony Scene
EXT: AUDITORIUM, INT: CLOSE UP OF WILL ANDERSON
An auditorium se massive hall with people dressed formally faced
towards the stage. A woman wearing an elegant dress stands at the
front of the stage and is speaking into a microphone.
Award Announcer:
Now we move on to our most prestigious award, the 2040 life time
achievement award. All nominees put forward for this award have,
without a doubt, changed society for the better and it is only right
we commend them for their intuitive work.
The woman opens a sealed envelope, she opens the paper inside.
Award Announcer:
So, it gives me immense pride and honour to announce that the winner
of the 2040 life time achievement award goes to… one of the most
creative talents in our industry today, director extraordinaire and
all round nice guy… Will Anderson.
The crowd cheer happily as Will Anderson walks up onto the stage.
Voice over announcer:
A proud moment for Will Anderson as he steps up to take the most
prominent award of the night. Winner of numerous awards, Will has
been recognised many times for the innovation and vision he brings
to the industry. One of the youngest directors to win the Lifetime
Achievement Award this will stand as a landmark moment in his
career.
Will Anderson reaches the stage and the woman passes to him the
trophy for the award. He walks towards the microphone.
Will Anderson:
Wow, I wasn’t expecting this. Honestly, if you told me years ago
that I would be in the position I am today, winning this award, I
would have thought you were insane. So, this means everything to me.
But I can’t take sole credit for this award, I need to thank those
who helped me and believed in me over the years. I owe everything to
these people. Gemma, my gorgeous other half, Phil and the rest of
the production company… but most of all, my best friend Jake, who
happens to be in the audience tonight. I value our friendship dearly
and without you I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Friendship is the
best gift you can give anyone, it can help you in your darkest
times.
Flashback
Will Anderson:
PRE-PRODUCTION BOOKLET
I met Jake when I was sixteen years old; a time when I was having
some troubles...
A younger version of Will Anderson sat on bench in an open park,
staring down at note with the text ‘Homo Freak’ written on it. The
boy is weeping to himself and seems very distressed. Jake is walking
past and makes eye contact with Will. He looks over, concerned.
Jake Beckett:
Are you alright?
Will Anderson looks up to Jake Beckett, tears in his eyes, he
quickly looks away and wipes his eyes.
Will Anderson:
Yeah, I am fine.
Jake Beckett:
Are you sure?
Will Anderson:
Yeah, I’m sure
Jake Beckett:
Its just, well, you don’t seem alright
Jake looks down and sees the note within Will’s hands, he appears
curious.
Jake Beckett:
What’s that?
Will crumples up the note and pulls it away from Jake.
Will Anderson:
It’s Nothing
Jake Beckett:
It doesn’t look like nothing, let me have a look
Will reluctantly hands the paper to Jake who opens it revealing the
message.
Will Anderson:
I know, I’m pathetic
Jake Beckett:
What? Why would you think that?
Will Anderson:
I don’t know, I just let them do this to me.
Jake Beckett:
PRE-PRODUCTION BOOKLET
Well, whoever did this to you is the one who’s pathetic.
Will Anderson:
Yeah, but I’m pathetic because I can’t stand up to them. I just let
them say what they want to me and don’t fight back.
Jake Beckett:
Well why should you have to fight back. They shouldn’t be writing
stuff like this, believe me, they’re the pathetic ones.
Will Anderson:
Yeah but I should at least tell them to stop.
Jake Beckett:
Well what’s stopping you?
Will Anderson:
I just don’t feel confident enough.
Jake Beckett:
Yeah, I get you… Anyway, they’re assholes. Screw them. You’re better
than idiots like them anyway
Will Anderson looks up and meets eyes with Jake Beckett.
Will Anderson:
You don’t have to be nice to me
Jake Beckett:
Why not? I genuinely want to talk to you.
Jake Beckett looks down at all the books that surround Will Anderson
on the bench.
Jake Beckett:
Are you taking all those home for the weekend?
Will Anderson:
Yeah, something like that
Jake Beckett:
Well do you need any help carrying it all?
Will Anderson:
Yeah, that would be great thanks.
Both boys stand up and walk away from the bench area carrying the
books and belongings.

Scene Two- Reality of the situation

PRE-PRODUCTION BOOKLET
EXT: AUDITIORIUM INT: CLOSE UP SHOT OF WILL ANDERSON
Will Anderson in the year of 2040 stands on stage saying his
acceptance speech to the big crowd.
Will Anderson:
To many this would be a typical beginning of a friendship. Nothing
out of the ordinary. Yet it was so much more, this friendship saved
my life.
Shows the moment Jake walks over to Will Anderson in the flashback.
Will and Jake meet eyes for a second.
Will Anderson:
I have never before spoken about what was really going on for me
that day Jake came into my life.
Shows a montage of the stuff endured by Will Anderson. For example,
his family arguing with each other, being hit across the face, the
name calling at school. Finally, it shows him planning his suicide.
Will Anderson:
That day, everything had got too much, my home life, my school life
and the constant bullying. I’d had enough, I’d packed up my books
from school and that day, I’d planned to take my own life.
Scene Three- Final Moments
EXT: BENCH, IN FIELD INT: TRACKING SHOT OF JAKE BECKETT
Young version of Will Anderson is sat down on the bench with the
note crumpled in his hands. He gets flashes of his parents screaming
at him and of him crying to himself. Then you seem Jake Beckett walk
past and make eye contact with Will Anderson.
Will Anderson:
This boy didn’t have to talk to me, didn’t have to be nice and
didn’t have to comfort me. But he did. His one action of
selflessness made me realise that maybe there are some things worth
living for.
Shows Jake talking casually to Will asking him if he is okay. No
sound of dialogue heard from their conversation.
Scene Four - Friendship Growing
INT: Montage scene featuring locations: pool table, football field,
outside bench, field food table.
Montage of clips of Will and Jake’s growing friendship e.g.
introducing Will to Jake’s friends; playing pool; partying
Scene Five- Conclusion
EXT: AUDITORIUM INT: CLOSE UP SHOT OF WILL ANDERSON
PRE-PRODUCTION BOOKLET
Back at the Award Ceremony Will Anderson is stood behind the podium
addressing the audience.
Will Anderson:
Now I understand this is very cliché but as a society we should
learn to be more kind and loving to one another. As a child I didn’t
see much hope in the world, I thought I was alone, so it drove me to
think the only way out was by killing myself. But all I needed was a
friend, someone on my side for once. Without Jake’s one act of
kindness I would not be here today, would not have achieved my
ambitions, and this award would not be mine. I would never have
realised that there is so much to live for in the world. I encourage
all of you to be kind to others around you, you don’t know the
struggles people are going through. A little act of love can go a
long way in someone’s eyes.
Lifts award
Will Anderson:
So, this is for you Jake. Thanks again.
Will Anderson walks off the stage with the award held tightly in his
hand. The crowd goes wild and begins to cheer loudly.

AGE Luke Dixon is eighteen years old.

ABOUT Luke Dixon loves drama and has been in many school productions prior
to this project. One of his most recent performance was with the
company ‘Reading Between the Lines’ in which he played Romeo in
Romeo and Juliet. His performance in Romeo and Juliet really made him
perfect for the role of Will Anderson. This is due to him playing Romeo
in a very vulnerable naïve way. This is how I want the character of Will
Anderson to be played, due to him being bullied and picked on at
school.
SCENES The character of young Will Anderson will be in scenes two, three and
four of the production.
LOCATIONS His character will be in two main location (and the individual locations
within the location). He will be both Whitchurch locations, bench scene
and in the field, he will also be in the house in the numerous rooms
shooting.
PROPS USED He will need the note which has the message ‘Gay Boy’ written on it. He
will also need books for scene two.

ABOUT Natasha has attended drama school for seven years and has played
many parts including Blowsy Brown, Julia Goolia and Juliet from Romeo

examinations grades and has achieved all distinctions in these. Another
important thing about her is that she has worked with a professional
company called Reading Between the Line, which has given her lots of
experience for acting.
SCENES Natasha will be in the first scene, title ‘The Award Ceremony’. This is her
only scene and it is when, at the award ceremony, she announces the
winner of the 2040 life time achievement award.
LOCATIONS This location is set at the award ceremony podium. I will film this

his ability and experience. Therefore, I have casted him for the role of
the Old Will Anderson as I want this version of Will to be confident and
be a good public speaker which is what Toby is good at as an actor.
SCENES The scenes in which the character Old Will Anderson will be in is Scene

CONTINGENCY PLAN
ACTORS CONTINGENCY

This is the contingency plan for my actors. This essentially is a list of ‘backup actors’ who can fill in
for that specific role, if for whatever reason the person playing the role cannot attend the filming
date e.g. they are ill. This just makes sure that everything in my production runs smoothly as I will
not have to cancel filming due to an actor missing.

LOCATION CONTIGENCY

This is the contingency plan for my location. The location contingency plan is ‘backup locations’
which can be used in replacement of my other locations. This could be due to many reasons such as
the area not being accessible for the actors to get too. Having a location contingency plan just makes
sure I can still get my production done even if the location flaws.
