The Journal of Engineering

Advisory and Editorial Board

The Journal of Engineering from the IET will publish open access research articles from a
broad range of engineering topics and from an international range of authors. To support
these aims, the management of the journal will comprise Chief Advisors, Section Editors and
an in-house editorial team.

Chief Advisors
Our ambassadors for the journal are Professor Lionel Tarassenko, Professor Norbert
Peters and Ms Naomi Climer. Providing valuable support to the IET as the journal develops,
the IET is pleased to welcome their expertise.

Professor Lionel Tarassenko CBE, FREng, MA, DPhil, CEng, FIET

With University of Oxford degrees in Engineering Science (BA) and Medical Electronics
(DPhil), Professor Tarassenko has held a number of positions in academia and industry. He
has devoted most of his research effort to the development of signal processing techniques
and their application to diagnostic systems, especially in the context of medical problems. A
recipient of a number of awards including a British Computer Society Medal, he is also holder
of the Chair in Electrical Engineering at Oxford University and was elected to a Fellowship of
the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and to a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of
Engineering in 2000. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in
the New Year Honours List in 2012.

Professor Dr Norbert Peters, RWTH Aachen

Norbert Peters’ primary research interest is in the field of combustion engineering. He has
received a number of awards for his contributions in this field including membership of the
United States National Academy of Engineering.

Ms Naomi Climer, SONY, USA

Ms Naomi Climer is President of Sony’s new global division – Media Cloud Services, in Los
Angeles, USA, as a US-based advisor and is also Deputy President of the IET.

Ms Climer is responsible for leading the continued expansion of Sony’s European media,
broadcast and business-to-business operations. As well as growing the business, Naomi also
plays a major role in the delivery of solutions that require the expertise of ‘Sony United’.

Naomi came into the broadcast industry when she joined the BBC in 1987 as a broadcast
engineer. From the BBC she went on to manage a range of IT software development projects
for independent radio stations, broadcasters and IT-based companies.
