A A RON BECK ER

Aaron Becker achieves a tremendous

feat, connecting the private, personal
loss experienced by one child to a
cycle spanning millennia — delivering
a stunningly layered tale that demands
to be pored over again and again.

Use A Stone for Sascha in your classroom to introduce

visual literacy skills and spark creative writing projects.

• TEACHER TIPS



Explore the book with students. It may be easiest to assign small
groups to do this, as the details of the book are essential and
require readers to slow down and look and look again.



Because there are no words in the book, the author decided to
use a color to draw readers along. See if students can identify
this color (yellow).



Break children into small groups and have them write a narrative
to accompany the images.



Have students try to identify each historical period covered as
the story progresses.
