10% discount and stll make a proft of 0%. If the cost of the product was tk 50, what was his
asking price? [Bangladesh Bank Ofcere 001]
::
Soluton:
If the cost price was 50tk
Then 0% proft selling price is
={50 +(50* 0/100)}
= 60 tk
And 10% discount
If the selling price is 90 then asking price is 100
If the selling price is 1 then asking price is 100/90
If the selling price is 60 then asking price is {(100*60)/90} = 66.67 Tk
Answer:66.67 tk
0 . Mr. X pays 10% tax on all income over 60000tk but he does not pay any tax on interest on
postal saving certfcate. In 000 he paid 7500 as tax & he earned 1 000 as interest on postal
savings account. What is his net and total income in 000?
[Bangladesh Bank Ofcere 001]
:::
Soluton:
Given that,
Mr. X gives 10% taxes on his income,
So,
If tax is 10tk then income is 100tk
If tax is 7500tk the income is (100*7500)/10 = 75000tk
So,
His total income in 000
=(75000 + 60000 + 1 000)
= 147000 Tk
And,his net income in 000 is
=Total IncomeeTax
=(147000 – 7500)
= 139500 Tk
Answer: 147000 tk & 139500 tk

derived by adding 3.5 marks each correct answer and deductng 1 mark for each incorrect
answer, how many questons did the student answer correctly? [Bangladesh Bank Ofcere 001]
::
Soluton:
Let,
No of correct answer be x,
so incorrect answer =( e x)
According to the queston,
3.5x e 1*( e x) = 63.5
Or, 3.5x – + x = 63.5
Or, 4.5x = 63.5 + = 85.5
Or, x = 85.5/4.5 = 19
So, correct answer was 19

05.Mr.Rich sold two propertes, 1 & for tk 50,000 each. He sold property 1 for 0% more
then what he paid for it & sold for 0% less than what he paid for it. What was his total gain
or loss, if any, on the sale of two propertes? [Bangladesh Bank Ofcere 001]
::
Soluton:
In case of 1:
At 0% proft
If selling price is 1 0tk then buying price 100tk
If selling price is 50,000 tk then cost price
={(50000*100)/1 0}
= 500000/1
= 1 5000/3 Tk
In case of :
At 0% loss
If selling price is 80tk then buying price 100tk
If selling price is 50000tk then cost price
={(50000*100)/80}
= 6 ,500 tk
Now, total sell price
=50000*
=1,00,000 tk
Total cost price
= 1 5000/3 + 6 500
= 31 500/3
= 104166.67 tk
So, loss={104166.67e( *50,000)}
= 104166.67 – 1,00,000 = 4166.67 tk
Answer:4166.67 tk
06. Mr. X has an investable amount of tk 100,000, he will invest the amount for two years. He
has two optons. He can invest at simple interest rate of 1 % per annum; alternatvely he can
invest at a compound interest rate of 10% (compounded semieannually), Calculate the earnings
at two opton and advice him Mr X accordingly.
[Bangladesh Bank Ofcere 001]
::
::
Soluton:
At 1 % simple interest,
Mr. X can get
={(1 *100000* )/100}
= 4000 tk
At 10% compound amount
={100000(1+10/100* )^ * }
=1 1550.6tk
So, compound interest
= 1 1550.6–100000
= 1550.6tk
So, simple interest is beter opton for Mr. X Ans.

8% on all sales exceeding Tk.40,000 in a month. He does not earn any commission if sales in a
month amount to less than Tk. 0000. His monthly salary is Tk.60,000; he has to pay tax 0%
tax on his basic salary, but no tax on commission, in April, 001,the total net income (salary +
commission) of the sales person was Tk 65,000. How much were the sales in April?
Soluton:
Given that,
Mr X has to pay 0% tax on his basic salary
Tax on salary monthly
=60000 × 0%=1 000 Tk
Net salary =(60000 –1 000)

=17000 tk
Suppose,
He sales in April be = x tk
According to the queston,
40000×5%+(x e 40000)×8%= 17000
Or, 000+0.08x–3 00=17000
Or,0.08x–1 00 =17000
Or, 0.08x = 18 00
Or, x = 7500
So, the sales in April=Tk. 7500
Answer: , 7,500 tk

Alternative:
Given that,

1/3rd of the proft made from selling a pen. If he makes profts of tk 900 in a month by selling
pencils, how much proft does he make per month by selling pens? The trader sells 30ds in a
month.
Soluton:
Let,
roft from 1 pen = x tk
So, in a month he gets proft
= 1 *30*x

the rest of the work in 4 days. How much tme would it take for the two of them together to
complete the whole work? [Bangladesh Bank ADe 006]
Soluton:
Suppose,
Total work=1 porton
In 80 days, Abir can do 1 (whole) porton of work
In 1 day, Abir can do (1/80) part of the work
In 10 days Abir can do (1×10)/80

5. Recently Kamal's hourly wage has been increased by 10%. Before this increase, Kamal's
total weekly wage was Tk. 137. If his weekly working hours were to decrease by 10% from last
week's total working hours, what would be the change, if any, in Kamal's total weekly wage?
[Bangladesh Bank ADe 009]
Soluton:
Suppose,weekly working tme=x hr
Weekly hourly wage = 137/x Tk.
Afer 10% increase, new hourly wage =137/x+10% of(137/x)
= 137/x + (10*137)/(100*x)
= 137/x (1 + 1/10)
= 1507/10x
Afer 10% decrease, new working hour =xe10% of x =9x/10
New weekly total wage
=(9x/10)×(1507/10x)=135.63 Tk.
Weekly wage reduced=(137e135.63) = 1.37 Tk.
Answer:1.37 tk
Alternative:
For MCQ
Efectve change in percentage afer 10% increase in wage and 10% decrease in hours
={10e10+(10)(e10)/100}
= e1%
Now, 1% of Tk.137
=Tk.1.37
Answer:1.37 tk

which it is sold to make a proft of 10%?[Bangladesh Bank ADe 009]
Soluton:
Let,
cost price of the watch =100 tk
So,
15% loss selling price will be=85 tk
If selling price is 85 tk then cost price is 100 tk
So,if selling price is 61 tk then cost price is (100*61 )/85 =7 0 tk
Again,10% proft,
If cost price is 100 tk thane selling price is 110 tk
So, if cost price is 7 0 tk then selling price is (110*7 0)/100= 79 tk

8.The length of rectangular plot is greater than its breadth by 0 meters. If the perimeter of
the plot is 160 meters, what is the area of the plot in square meters?
[Bangladesh Bank ADe 010]
Soluton:
Let, breadth be x meters and length be (x + 0) meters
According to the queston,
x + (x + 0) = 160
Or, 4x + 40 = 160
Or, 4x = 160 – 40
Or, x = 1 0/4 = 30
So, breadth = 30 meters and length =30 + 0 = 50 meters.
Area of the pot = (50 × 30) = 1500 sq. meters.
Answer:1500 sq.meters

31.A printer quotes a price of taka 7,500 for printng 1,000 copies of a book and Taka 15,000 for
printng ,500 copies. Assuming a linear relatonship and ,000 books are printed, fnd
(a)the variable cost per book,
(b) the average cost per book and (c) the fxed cost.[Bangladesh Bank ADe 011]
Soluton:
(a) 1000 copies need 7500 Tk
500 copies need 15000Tk
Extra 1500 copies need
=15000–7500=7500Tk
So, cost for frst 1000 copies is fxed and next all are variable
We can get variable cost per book = 7500/1500
=5 Tk
(b) As cost functon is linear and total cost for printng frst 1000 copies is 7500 Tk and the
variable cost for per book is 5 Tk.
So, more 1000 copies cost = 5*1000 = 5000 Tk
To print 000 books we need= (7500 + 5000)=1 ,500 Tk
Average cost=1 500/ 000=6. 5 Tk
(c) Fixed cost=(7500e5000)= 500 Tk

Soluton:
Suppose,
Length = x and breadth = y.
So, perimeter,
(x + y) = 7
Or, x + y = 36
Or, x = 36 e y
And,
Area, xy = 3 3
Or, {(36 e y)y}= 3 3
Or, 36y – y = 3 3

the two basic elements in the two alloys are 5:3 and 1: . A new alloy X is formed by mixing the
two alloys A & B in the rato 4:3. What is the rato of the compositon of the two basic elements
in alloy X?[Bangladesh Bank ADe 01 ]
Soluton:
Let,
F = the frst basic element and
S = the second basic element.
Alloy A:
Since F:S = 5:3,
So amount of F = 5/8
&
Amount of S = 3/8
Alloy B: Since F:S = 1: ,
so amount of F = 1/3
& amount of S = /3
Now, rato of alloy A & B in new alloy X is 4:3
amount of F in the new alloy
X=(5/8)*4 + (1/3)*3 =7/
amount of S in the new alloy
X =(3/8)*4 + ( /3)*3= 7/
Hence rato of F & S in new alloy X = (7/ )/(7/ ) = 1/1 = 1:1

and 10% loss on the second. Find his overall percentage of loss.
[BANGLADESH BANK OFFICER 015]
Soluton:
Suppose,
rice be Tk.100
At, 0% loss, selling price
=100– 0 =Tk.80
And at 10% loss selling price

loss incurred by selling the same artcle for Tk. 1 80. At what price should the artcle be sold to
make 5% proft?[Bangladesh Bank ADe 015]
Soluton:
Here, both the artcle is same as well as cost price and percentage of proft and loss.
Let cost price of the artcle = x Tk.
In case of frst conditon,
ercentage of proft = {(19 0 – x)100}/x
In case of second conditon,
ercentage of loss = {(x e 1 80)100}/x
According to queston,
{(19 0 – x)100}/x = {(x e 1 80)100}/x
Or, 19 0 – x = x – 1 80
Or, x + x = 19 0 + 1 80
Or, x = 3 00
Or, x = 1600
So, cost price = 1600 Tk.
At 5% proft, sell price will be = 1600 + 1600* 5/100

55.A can do a piece of work in 10 days while B can do it in 15 days. They work together for 5
days and the rest of the work is done by C in days. If they get Tk. 4500 for the whole work,
how should they divide the money?[Bangladesh Bank ADe 015]
Soluton:
Here, in 1 day A can do 1/10 part
So, in 5 days A do = 5/10 = 1/ part
Again, in 5 days B do = 5/15 = 1/3 part
Rest of the work done by C = 1 – (1/ + 1/3) = 1 – 5/6 = 1/6
So, A’s share = 4500/ = 50 Tk.
B’s share = 4500/3 = 1500 Tk.
C’s share = 4500/6 = 750 Tk. Answer: 750 Tk
56.ABCD is a square and one of its sides AB is also a chord of the circle as shown in the fgure.
What is the area of the square?[Bangladesh Bank ADe 015]

So, AB = BO + AO
=9+9
3
= 18 O
Or, Ab = √18 = 3√
3
So,area of the square ABCD
= (3√ ) C B
= 18 sq. unit
Answer: 18 sq. unit
57.10% of the voters did not cast their vote in an electon between two candidates.10% of the
votes polled were found invalid. The successful candidate got 54% of the valid votes and won by
a majority of 16 0 votes.Find the number of voters enrolled on the voters list.
[Bangladesh Bank ITe 016].
Soluton:
Successful candidate gots=54%
Other candidate got=(100e54)=46%
Successful candidate got majority
=(54e46)%
=8%
According to the queston,
8%eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee=16 0
100%eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee=[(16 0*100)/8]
= 0 50
Invalid vote=10%
So valid vote=(100e10)=90%
Now,
90% vote = 0 50
And 100% vote=[( 0 50*100)/90]
= 500
From queston Did not cast vote=10%
Cast vote=(100e10)=90%
So,
90% cast vote= 500
100% or total voters
=[( 500*100)/90]
= 5,000
Answer: 5,000
58.Two friends and Q started a business investng in the rato of 5: 6 R joined them afer six
months investng an amount equal to that of Q 's .At the end of the year , 0% proft was earned
which was equal to tk 98000.What was the amount invested by R?
[Bangladesh Bank ITe 016]
Solutone1:
Suppose,
The total proft be z Tk
Then,
0% of z = 98000
Or, z =(98000∗100)/ 0
Or, z= 4,90,000
Total proft afer one year =4,90,000 Tk
Let ,
the capitals of , Q and R be
5x, Rs. 6x and Rs. 6x respectvely.
Then,
5x*1+6x*1+6x * 1/ = 490000
Or, (10x +1 x+6x)/ =490000
Or, 8x=490000*
Or, x=35000
So, R's investment=(6*35000)
= 10000 Tk
Answer: 10000 Tk
Alternative:
Suppose,
The total proft be z Tk
Then,
0% of z= 98000
Z= (98000∗100)/ 0
Or,z= 4,90,000
Let ,
the capitals of , Q and R be
5x, Rs. 6x and Rs. 6x respectvely.
Then,
(5x * 1 )+(6x * 1 )+(6x * 6)= 490000 * 1
Or,168x = 490000 * 1
Or, x = (490000∗1 168)
= 35000
R's investment = 6x =(6 * 35000) = 10000 Tk
Answer: ,10,000 Tk
59. A man sells an artcle at a proft of 5%. If he had bought it at 0% less and sold it for
Tk.10.50 less, he would have gained 30%. Find the cost price of the artcle.
[Bangladesh Bank AD e 017]
Soluton:
Suppose,
The cost price of the artcle is Tk. 100
At 5% proft, selling price
=(100+ 5% of 100)= Tk. 1 5
At 0% less, cost price
=(100e 0% of 100)=Tk.80
At 30% proft, selling price
=(100+30% of 100)=Tk.130
When C is Tk 100, S is Tk.130
When C is Tk 80, S is (130*80/100)=Tk.104
Diference of two selling price
=(1 5e104)=Tk. 1
When S diference is Tk. 1 less, C is Tk.100
When S diference is Tk. 10.50 less, cost price is {(100*10.50)/ 1}
= 50 tk
Ans: Tk.50
60.A and B can do a piece of work in 18 days, B and C can do it in 4 days, A and C can do it in
36 days. In how many days will A, B and C fnishes it, working together and separately?
[Bangladesh Bank AD e 017]
Soluton:
(A + B)'s 1 day's work = 1/18
(B + C)'s 1 day's work = 1/ 4
(A + C)'s 1 day's work = 1/36
(A + B + C)'s 1 day's work
=1/18 + 1/ 4 + 1/36=9/7
=1/8 porton of the work
(A +B + C)'s 1 day's work
=1/16 porton of the work
So,(A +B + C) together can fnish the work in 16 days.
A’s 1 day's work
=1/16 – 1/ 4
= 1/48 porton of the work
A alone can fnish the work in 48 days.
B's 1 day's work
= 1/16 – 1/36
=5/144 porton of the work
B alone can fnish the work in 144/5= 8.8 days
C’s 1 day work
=1/16e1/18
=1/144 porton of the work
C alone can fnish the work in 144 days.
Ans: Together=16 days, A=48 days, B= 8.8 days and C=144 days.
