Cylinder

Cylinder is a cylindrical vessel or space in which the piston perform an up-and-down motion.
During the operation of the engine, the air or the mixture of air and petrol fills up the volume in
the cylinder. This mixture burn inside the cylinder as a result power is produced which is use to
run the engine. Thr cylinder is supported in the cylinder block

Piston

Piston is a cylindrical component fitted into the cylinder which moves up and down inside the
cylinder. It is fitted so as to provide gas tight space with the piston ring and the lubricant. The
piston compressed air or the mixture of air and petrol, in order to produce power from the
combustion of this mixture

Combustion chamber

Even after the piston reaches the top most position, there isa space in the upper part of the
cylinder. This space is enclosed by the cylinder head and combustion process takes place only in
this space inside the cylinder. Therefore this space is called the combustion chamber

Inlet manifold

The inlet manifold is a pipe connecting the intake system to the inlet valve of the engine
cylinder air or air-fuel mixture is drawn into the cylinder through this pipe

Exhaust manifold
The pipe connecting the exhaust system to the exhaust valve of the engine cylinder is called the
exhaust manifold. The product of combustion escape into the atmosphere through the pipe

Inlet valve

The inlet valve is provided on the cylinder head to regulate the flow of the air fuel mixture or air
into the cylinder. When the valve open, the charge of the air-fuel mixture enters into the
cylinder. When it closes, the flow of the mixture into the cylinder is stopped

Spark plug

In the petrol engine or spark-ignition(SI)engine the plug po is located on the cylinder head.
When the mixture of the air and petrol is compressor, The spark developed by the spark plug
ignite the mixture and the mixture burm. Thus the spark plug initiates the combustion proper

Connecting rod

The connecting rod connects the piston and the crankshaft. It transmmits thegas forced from
the pisnton to the crankshaft

Crankshaft

The crankshaft convert the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotary motion of the
output shaft. The crankshaft consist of a pair of crank arms and balance weigh is enclose in a
crankacase. The flywheel is fitted to the readand end of the crankshaft
Piston ring

Piston ring ar fitted into the grooves of the piston. These ring press tighty against the cylinder
wall and prevent the fresh mixture and exhaust gas from passinv through th piton clearance.
There are two types of the piston rin, namely, compression rings and oil ring

Gudgeon

The gudeon pin connects the piston and the smell end of the connecting rod. The gudeon pin is
also called the piston pin. It is fitted to the small end of the connecting rod inside the piston.
Ciclips are fitted the recesses in the piston. These prevent the gudgeon pin from touching the
cylinder wall.

Camshaft

The camshaft controls the opening and closing of the inlet and exhaust valves. Tappets, push
rods, rocker arms and valve spring assist the camshaft in the opening and closing of the valve.
The camshaft provides the drive to ghe ignition system. It is driven by the crankshaft through
the timing gears.

Cams

Cams are constructed as intergral part of camshaft. These can open the valves at the correct
time and keep them open for the necessary duration. For single cylinder engine, there are two
cams, one for the Inlet valve and another for the exhaust valve. For a four.cylinder engine, there
ate eight cams. Four lift the inlet valves against the pressure of the valve spring and the another
four can lift the exhaust valve against the pressure of the valve spring
Flywheel

The flywheel is a fitted to the rear end of the crankshaft. It stores up a part of the energy
produce by the power stroke and releases this energy during the idle strokes. Thus the fly
wheel, due to its momentum, helps in the smooth running of the crankshaft

Conclusion

I there for conclude that all part of four stroke diesel engine is important because of its rely to
each other to make an engine moves

Introduction

Four stroke diesel engine is a type of engine that convert chemical energy to mechanical energy
that can make it parts moves. It use all over the world to make our life easier. This is the part of
an four stroke engine have.

Four stroke diesel engine is an engine that use in cars, trucks, buses etc. It is the most popular
engine because of its efficiency. It can make our life easier. This is the part of a four stroke diesel
