Woodstock Summer Programme

Guitar

Following is the content for the two-week summer programme from 1st July to 14th July 2018

All students will learn the basic technique of guitar:

• How to hold the guitar sitting down


• Left hand technique- hand position, how and where to fret notes
• Right hand technique- using a plectrum, using the right-hand fingers to pluck strings, basic
strumming patterns

All student will learn

• Basic exercises for coordination of both hands


• To read and play the natural notes on the first three strings in the first position
• To play the major scale up to the fifth degree in the keys of G and C major
• To read and play simple tunes
• To play three/four string chords

Some students may also be able (depending on ability and adaptability)

• To play a complete major scale across the first three strings starting on different notes
• To strum and accompany simple tunes with three/four string chords
• To hold and strum basic open position chords across the six strings

A few students may also be able to (depending on ability)

• Keep time and change between chords across the six strings.
• Be able to accompany some pop/rock tunes

Classes may include ten-minute audio/video interactive sessions across different genres. This is to
build curiosity and enthusiasm for different genres.

At the end of the programme students could give a small recital performing

• tunes they have learnt with myself accompanying them


• perform solos
• accompany popular songs with simple strumming patterns
