Annotated bibliography

Mental health issues are one of the major problems affecting most college and university

students. The national alliance on mental health issues estimates that anxiety, depression and

general stress are on the rise on the universities and the colleges. Many of the individuals

affected are the ones who come into the university or college to find themselves dealing with

stress, relationships and adjusting to college life. These are the major issues affecting the

students at the University of Texas at El Paso stated by licensed clinical social worker and one of

the several counselors at the University of Texas at El Paso. What am yet to discover is why

majority of the students in the UTEP community are affected by these mental issues and after

finding the reason behind it, will look for ways for solving the problem or perhaps reduce the

percentage of the students affected

2.How does biomedical affect mental health issues?

The digital news reports that many companies have been accused of discriminating

against people with mental health issues. Research is done and the author notes that many

people with mental health problems have been told by their insurer will not pay to any

claims related to their mental problems. This is based on the fact that the ‘‘Money and

Mental Health Policy Institute (MMHPI) showed that more than one in five (21 per cent)

people who experienced mental health problems travelled without insurance because it

was too expensive, while 15 per cent had chosen not to travel at all because of the high

cost of insurance.’’

The author of this article demonstrates how it has been possible for one individual to

move beyond mental health problem something new, from a place of confusion into a

place of some understanding. The author notes that it is possible to recover from being

mentally ill to physically fit. This is based on the fact that he was once affected and he

eventually recovered. The people who were once affected by this and recovered can be

used as major source of research on the mental health issues.

The Normans media presents an argument that there are many people affected by mental

health issues and fear to talk about it. Through statistics the author notes that there are

many people affected but choose to keep silent. This is based on the fact that many are

afraid of losing their jobs or maybe denied by the society at large.

The author in this journal article emphasizes that closer relationship must be forged

between the output of clinical research and its utilization in the practice of medicine. He

notes that there is a rise in the health care costs for the mentally ill people, in this way the

affected get a less chance of being medicated. The author’s emphasis is based on the rise

of people affected by the mental health issues for instance in the universities.

Mehl presents a philosophical discussion about the relationship between ethics and

psychological sciences in this article. He argues that there are many individuals who are

morally good and psychologically healthy that are not contented. He disagrees with Judge

William the first philosopher to add mental health to the duo, that a certain sort of

"ethical attitude" is necessary for becoming a self or a personality, for moving toward

mental health, and in turn toward dispelling despair. The authors claim is based on the

fact that there are people who are self-absorbed and do not go in for ethical evaluation.

The author of this book talks generally of talks of the elderly being affected by mental

health issues. He argues that there is an increase in the growth of managed care due the

failure of the governmental health in the elderly reforms. Through observation, the author

observed that indeed there was an increase in the managed care. The authors argument is

based on the fact that there are less elderly affected people visiting the ‘less’

governmental health care. This is a credible source since it gives the reason behind less

mental health care clinics.

illness. International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, 4(1), 140-163.

The author of this article argues that even though the biomedical models may increase the

understanding of mental disorders it does not bring an end to stigma. The author offers a

critical analysis of the use of biomedical models of mental illness as a model of

eliminating stigma of which the fail to address the real issue. The argument is based on

the fact that the biomedical models are the ones who bring the rise in the stigma despite

them undermining it.
