The Cambridge CELTA course:
Look for any job abroad and you are bound to come across the Cambridge CELTA listed as one of the basic
requirements. There are so many very good reasons for this!

The CELTA Certificate is recognised by employers

worldwide because they know that

• you have been taught how to teach using a coursebook

• you know how to design your own materials
• you have had practice with live classes
• you followed the course at a recognised centre by
Cambridge
• your tutors were Cambridge trained and approved
tutors with appropriate background and experience
• your course was inspected and moderated by
Cambridge appointed assessors.

How many online cheap TEFL courses do you know that

can offer so many guarantees? None! And that is why
employers trust this qualification and look to employ CELTA
holders.

CELTA face-to-face courses in Athens

The face to face CELTA is offered as either a part-time course over 12-16 weeks or as an intensive full
time course over 4 weeks. Face to face courses are suitable for people who live in or near Athens or for
people who are able to come and spend at least four weeks in Athens. If you can’t come to Athens for
more than two weeks, then you may want to consider the online CELTA instead.

Part time courses are offered at least twice during the academic year starting in October and
January with sessions on

• three mornings per week (half-day sessions till 14.00) or

• once a week on Saturdays (all-day sessions). If you are currently in full time employment and
live in or near Athens, the part-time CELTA, which allows you to complete the course at a more
relaxed pace, may well be the best choice for you.

Full time courses are offered several times a year and last for four weeks (in February, May, June,
July, August, September, November). These are intensive courses which
require full commitment, as attendance is from 10:00 to 18:30 every day. This ● May
option is ideal for teachers who are prepared to work intensively for four weeks ● June
and complete all the CELTA assessment requirements within this period. ● July
● August
● September
Full time courses are offered all year round. Part time courses ● November
are usually offered in the fall & winter terms. For further
information, please check www.celt.edu.gr or send an email to
info@celt.edu.gr

The Online CELTA

• Are you a working professional who cannot take four weeks off work to follow a face-to-face CELTA
course?
• Can you take at least two weeks off to do your CELTA teaching practice?
• Are you comfortable working with online resources?
• Do you learn better when studying at your own pace?

If you answered yes to all or most of the questions above, then the online CELTA course may be the
best choice for you.

The CELTA Online is flexible and accessible: you can access the online materials at any time, giving
you the flexibility to plan your CELTA work around your other professional and personal commitments.

Characteristics of the online

CELTA course
The Cambridge CELTA Course Online is a
blended learning course, combining online
self-study with hands-on teaching practice.
As with the face-to-face course, the
Cambridge CELTA Course Online has two
components:

• Input, which is delivered online

with tutor support and
• Teaching Practice, for which you Fall &
Winter
need to travel to CELT Athens.
start dates

Online!
• The course portal is opened by Cambridge on the official day on which the course starts
• You will be sent full details on where and how to log into the website once you have been offered a
place and been registered with Cambridge ESOL.
• During the online component of the course you will be assigned an online course tutor who will
facilitate your group work and provide feedback on assignments and progress. You will also work
collaboratively in the forum(s) and in the ‘live room’ to complete tasks with tutor support, evaluation,
and comment.
• The online component of the course is not just studying resources: Our online platform will provide
you with a flexible and engaging learning experience. Online tasks are practical and interactive.
• You will cover the same topics as those following the face-to-face course.
• Other than the online tasks, you will also complete and submit four assessed written assignments.

7
Teaching Practice: two weeks in Athens
*You will have to be at CELT Athens on a daily basis during this 2-week period
• The Cambridge CELTA Course Online uses exactly the same model of face-to-face supervised lesson
planning, teaching practice, evaluation and feedback.
• Each trainee completes six hours’ assessed teaching practice. This involves teaching on eight
occasions and observing the teaching of other trainees in the teaching practice group. You teach learners
at a minimum of two different levels, one of which will be lower than intermediate and the other
intermediate level or higher.
• As well as gaining hands-on experience teaching real learners, you will observe experienced teachers
teaching classes of adult learners and watch peers teach their classes and participate in giving feedback.

Benefits – the Online CELTA…

• provides you with a CELTA Certificate which is the same as for the face-to-face course (the
certificate does not in any way indicate that it was obtained online)
• covers the same content and knowledge as a contact/ face-to-face course
• is well supported by CELT Athens tutors during the online component as well as during the two
weeks in Athens
• is assessed by a Cambridge appointed assessor in Athens. The assessor observes face-to-face
teaching practice and has access to online materials and trainee assignments.

September 1
1. Is there an exam at the end? – November 7
No final exam is given. The course assessment is on a continuous basis and is
handled through practical hands-on tasks during the course.
2. Who awards the Certification?
Cambridge Assessment awards the certificate upon reviewing the candidate’s work and centre
recommendation
3. Does this course allow participants to become trainers on courses other than the CELT-S and CELT-
P?
Yes, it does. The course content and input will give participants generic skills needed by teacher trainers and
help them learn to design training sessions for a variety of contexts and needs.
4. Does this course qualify participant to become a CELTA tutor?
Although this course does not qualify its participants to become CELTA trainers for which there is a lengthier
and more complex induction programme, this course can be one of the first steps towards this goal. CELTA
tutors are expected to have considerable experience as trainers, so this course is a great stepping stone to
that end.
5. Is it possible to join the course if you don’t have a CELTA or Delta?
It is possible, but only if you have a solid theoretical background in teaching methodology through your BA
and/or MA studies which must be relevant and have followed an equivalent practical teaching course of a
minimum of 120 hours which involved being observed by tutors and a lot of peer observing of tutors and
fellow trainees. If you do not have any of these qualifications, why not start a proper career path by applying to
do one of these courses.

Some Testimonials from our trainees*
The team at CELT Athens are outstanding. I was so impressed by the breadth and depth of
experience of the team and learned so much from them during my time there. They are all very
experienced trainers, and just very nice people, and they support you to be the best you can be.
The school also has a fantastic location, right in the centre of Athens and easily accessible.
Within walking distance to great restaurants, bars and more traditional sightseeing spots if
that's your thing! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CELT Athens to anyone considering a
CELTA or DELTA.
F. Orel, DELTA Blended student, 16 Feb 2018

Great environment, very helpful tutors that supported and encouraged me all the way! I
learned a lot and would definitely recommend this centre to other candidates!
D. Fanara, DELTA Blended student, 14 Feb 2018

Doing the DELTA course was a challenging but at the same time rewarding experience. It
helped me improve my teaching practice and experiment with new teaching methods. The
tutors at CELT Athens are highly experienced people who are always willing to support and
guide their trainees. I particularly enjoyed the enlightening feedback sessions during which
my tutors and I were engaged in absolutely constructive discussions that made me clearly see
what areas I need to focus and work on so as to develop further. CELT Athens has recently
moved to new premises in the heart of Athens with spacious and fully equipped classrooms
(e.g. laptops, OHPs, Interactive Whiteboards etc.). There is also access to lots of

supplementary materials and useful resources such as sample assignments and valuable books
in the library. CELT Athens is highly recommended! Go for it!
M. Stefanidou, DELTA All Modules student, 13 Feb 2018

A thoroughly enjoyable experience to have committed to the Celt Athens CELTA course. Hard
work is required, so a supportive environment is most appreciated!
H. Mitchell, CELTA student, 31 Jan 2018

"I really enjoyed the Delta online blended course at CELT Athens. I received excellent feedback
from my tutors Marisa and George throughout the course and was thoroughly prepared for
all Modules. This course has really improved both my knowledge of teaching theories and my
personal teaching practice. I can easily say that I have improved immensely. Thank you
CELT!"

M. Makrogiannis, DELTA student, 24 Dec 2015

My one month stay at Athens, with CELT Athens, was nothing short of wonderful. I was well
looked after by the administrative staff ( thank you Vassilis & Lisa) and given tremendous
academic support by my tutors George & Marisa. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I
would recommend this course in a heartbeat!

"My experience on the CELTA course has definitely been eye-opening. To say that I learned a lot
would be an understatement. I am extremely grateful to my tutors, Alexandra and Alexander, my
fellow trainee teachers, and everyone else involved in the process. Thank you all for your patience,
guidance, feedback, and motivation! "
