Ms. Jizi
UWRT 1103
26 January 2018
Before, I got to high school I never wanted to be an architect. I thought that it was boring job
with a lot of math. I wanted to become a teacher. The situation that change my life and that put
me on the path I am is when I met Mr. Mull. Mr. Mull is a teacher at Sun Valley High school. He
was extremely nice and generous. He taught drafting which was course teaching the
fundamentals of architecture and engineering. I thought that the class would be boring, and I was
right the first week was boring. I thought about dropping the course, but I decided to stay in the
class. As the semester progressed, began to enjoy drafting. He taught us how architects and
engineers no longer draw construction documents by hand. He taught how to draw in computer
programs such as AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Inventor and Fusion 360. I enjoyed learning this
because I learned that 2D computer drawings could become 3D computer models. Those
computer models could then be printed out by 3D printers. He also taught me how architects use
these different tools to make decisions. He was extremely helpful in choosing my new career
path. He guided me down the path that I needed to go to become architecture. Some of the things
that he told me that helped me a lot in choosing the right school were, “Make sure the program is
accredited by NCARB,” “most 4-year undergraduate programs will give you a Bachelor of Art in
Architecture. That is not enough to become a licensed architect. You will need to go to graduate
school to get a Bachelor’s in Architecture, then be an intern for three years and then take an
exam to become an architect.” This information was extremely helpful in planning the next few
years of my life. Mr. Mull also pushed me to go above and beyond what was expected from the
assignments. He helped me to develop skills that would help me get closer to my career goal.
With his help I was the first student in a long time to get certified user level in AutoCAD. He
helped me to be the first student in the school to get certified user level in Revit Architecture. He
also helped me become first student ever to get certified professional lever in Revit Architecture.
It would be impossible for me to achieve all I did without his help. He provided all the resources
I needed to succeed. He let me borrow books and he even gave me some of them. He was also
the supervisor of the school’s robotics club. In this club I was able to become a better designer
and able to lead a team to design a robot for competitions. He is a great instructor. He showed
me that architecture is amazing. I wish I still were his student because there is much more that I
