MCT OBSERVATION REPORT – B.Ed.

Teaching Practice 4b – Internship 201720

Name of Student: Aaesha Abdulla – H00303393 Course: EPC 4909 Year: Four

Name of School: Ahmed Bin Majed

Date and Time: February 26, 2018

Competency A – Commitment to the Profession:

You continue to demonstrate very satisfactory commitment to the profession. The very
good rapport you have with the learners and your MST continues to serve you very well.
The learning environment was positive and very conducive for learning. I continue to be
very encouraged by the participation of your MST in providing scaffolding during the first
individual reading and writing

Category B – Planning for Learning:

A satisfactory lesson plan was forwarded in time before the lesson. The learning outcomes
were clear and expressed in demonstrable behavioural terms. You also continue to
demonstrate careful planning.

Category C – Implementing and Managing Learning:

The learners were promptly engaged in the daily starting routine – day and date reminder.
Then the learners were asked to look under their seats to find clues to the topic of the
lesson. The riddles were somewhat ambiguous – “People climb me and cut me”; “I use
thousands of fingers to eat and drink.”. Then the learners were asked to present some
facts about trees. This was followed-up by a video playback about trees – Presents from a
tree. The playback was clear and at grade level. Allowing for volunteers to read aloud was
a very good idea. However, you could have tightened up about some facts – E.g. Banana ;
Kiwi – Fruit from a tree?; Water melons do not grow on trees. The video showing how
paper is made from wood was incomplete and the video was about a saw mill producing
plywood sheets. The information was somewhat out of touch with current perspective on
conservation of trees. The individual activity went very satisfactorily – good job allowing
for a quick class discussion of the answers. Then the learners were engaged in a group
work activity

Category D – Monitoring and Assessment of Learning:

You continue to use Q & A very efficiently and effectively to elicit desired responses from
the learners. You also continue to do very well calling on individual learners by name and
acknowledging responses with positive comments.

Category E – Reflection:

You did very well acting on previous advice to include some writing practice. You were
also spot on about the need to include more oral practice of the target structure. Keep on
engaging in critical self-appraisal to fine tune your practice.

Strengths of the Lesson:

The main strengths of this lesson were: Excellent learner engagement – good emphasis
om , very good rapport with the learners, and very efficient use of Q & A.

Areas for Development:

Continue working on ensuring that you give a solid model to avoid fossilization of teacher
errors by the learners. For example, pay particular attention to: 1) Grammar: “The tree
has logs.”; ; 2) Question Framing: “How many paragraphs we have here?”; “Which part we
are talking about here?”; “What does the tree give us?”; “What id furniture mean?”; 3)
Pronunciation:

Focus for next lesson

You should continue allowing for more individual writing activities for practice.
