- Asking the students some questions.

3
Children love to read stories, and they prefer the colorful stories that can attract

their attention, and the pictures can let them understand even without reading the

text. I wrote a story which is fantasy genre (The tooth talks to the boy). It is about

how it is important to brush our teeth and what are the right ways to brush, and the

target age is 3 to 5 years old. Besides, this story can support the UAE culture by

engorging the children to learn the right ways and keep their teeth clean as our

religion support the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

In the literacy day, the children were involved, and interest with all the stations and

our group which was about “Mr. Tooth story” and our learning outcomes were

focusing on teaching them the sound “Tt” and teaching them the right steps of

brushing teeth. The activities were four activities which are” Math, Art, Science and

Literacy. The activities were planned according to the Multiple intelligence which

are; Bodily-kinesthetic, Musical, Visual, Linguistic and Logical -Mathematical.

According to Howard Gardner he believes that: "These differences challenge an

educational system that assumes that everyone can learn the same materials in the

.
same way and that can improve the student learning” (Multiple Intelligences, n.d.) They

are important to build the child knowledge through providing these kinds of activities

and the child will know the world by having the multiple intelligence activities.

4
Our group took five groups of children and each group contained 6 to 7 children.

While reading the story, we explained to the students the importance of brushing their

teeth, and some of the students showed us his teeth and said that he always brushes

his teeth in the morning.

I showed them the steps that they should follow to brush their teeth, and one of the

children were pointing on the unhealthy and my colleague shaikh asked him why and

he said because of the chocolate. Me and my colleague Asma model and explain the

activities before they start to be easier for them to apply. According to Vygotsky, he

believes that: “The Zone of Proximal Development as the area where the most

sensitive instruction or guidance that are given which can allow the child to improve

his skills so he will use his own developing higher mental functions” (McLeod, Lev

Vygotsky, 2014). So, the guidance of the teacher can improve their skills and their think

and develop it by giving instructions to the Learners.

What made me feel happy and proud when the school teachers praise our stations

and the activities, and they said it was interest and the children were involved with

the activities especially the Art activity which was about coloring the tooth by the

toothbrush. (For more details, look at the appendix table (1), pic (1), page (8).

5
Moreover, when the children finish the activities, we document their work on the wall

in the “Students Work Corner”. They were happy to see their work on the wall and

it feels them proud of themselves and they teachers even. They wrote letter “T” next

to their tooth after we model the activity for them. According to Reggio Emelia

Approach: “Teachers use documentation to identify the children’s strengths, ideas,

and the steps that they should use to support learning” (What is the Reggio Emilia

Approach?, n.d.).That can support them by encouraging them to work so their work will

be hanged on the wall. (For more details, look at the appendix table (1), pic (2), page (8).

Moreover, when the children finish rom our station, I asked them to line up to move

to another station to avoid any accidents while moving and they were well behaved

and listening to us. (For more details, look at the appendix table (1), pic (3), page (8).

(AFL) Assessment for learning:

Assessment of learning means; The ways that the teachers use to assist or ensure that

the learners understood or even to know their levels. Also, there are strategies to assist

the learners such as; questioning, formative and summative assessment. Our group

used the questioning strategy by asking them few questions to ensure that they gain

information and knowledge about the ways and importance of brushing teeth. We

asked them to compare the two pictures of the tooth (Healthy and unhealthy), they

knew that eating deserts and chocolates can damage their teeth while eating fruits can

benefit out teeth. Moreover, we asked them to see the flashcards that show the steps

to brush our teeth and apply it.

(Getting started with Assessment for Learning, n.d.)

6
To sum up, every lesson should have two sides; what went well and what needs to be

improved in the next time. I think that; we achieved in encouraging the children to

do the activities and listening to the story by using the song and the puppets. Also, the

materials were enough, and they enjoyed doing the activities. However, the place was

not wide, and they could not sit on the chair even I think next time it should be in a

place more significant than this which will be much better to move and work. I

learned how important to be patient with the children especially when they are new,

and the special needs students needed more care, and they enjoyed all the stations.
