Paragraph

I study a degree in Visual Arts with certification in painting, and I have studied this since 2016. I’m in the
second year of this career, which is five years long.
The object of study of my major is to know about how to create art by the academic mode. So, this give
me tools to make my work with another point of view. First, I learn how they make something, then
choose if I want to follow that patterns or do it by my own way, but, knowing what am I doing. It also
gives me theories, knowledge about history, etc.
A person who studies this career, firstly needs to have a vocation with arts, needs to like making art in
whatever of its expressions, that could be painting, sculpting, textile, audiovisuals, etc. And secondly, I
think the person who studies arts, must be open-minded to understand all the ways they teach, and that
there are many ways to do the same thing.
In the first year, I had different classes that were like the basics of art. For example, there was a subject
called Color, another called Visual Thinking that was about composition, etc. And there were some
theory classes too, like History of Arts and Esthetic. I think the most interesting subject I have had was
Esthetic, because it is a bit abstract to understand it, and subjective too. I still do not know what is the
real right answer for the questions we had then, in that class. That ambiguous thing makes it interesting
and curious.
On the other hand, the most difficult subject of my curriculum was Volume. The one I hated a lot! I did
never understand what I had to do there. My marks were only red in that class. We had to create
abstract figures with white cardboard, but following some indications that the miss brought to us.
Sometimes my work was right, but I moved one piece and it went awful! When I made something good,
the miss said it wasn’t good the next class. I asked a lot, and payed attention. I asked my mates to help
me, but it was impossible. It was a headache that I wish I could understand.
One instrument that I need for my professional training is… Money. Without money, I can’t buy the
materials, can’t pay the university, etc. The second instrument is discipline, because you must practice a
lot to get good results in your works. And the third could be… Being informed about the current
situation of the art. This means going to expositions, artist talks, maybe workshops, read news, read
history of art, in summary know what happens with art in your country and in the world.
When I finish my studies, I would like to save a lot of money (by selling paintings or working in
something else) and then get a house out of Santiago, in the countryside of Chile, and stay there. Create
a new life filled of peace, without contamination, locomotion, angry people... Only paintings and good
landscapes. It sounds like a fairy tale, because it’s not so easy to get there, but I think it would be
amazing.
