Northern Mystics
2017: Third, lost to Pulse in elimination final; eight wins, seven losses
Shooters: Bailey Mes, Maria Folau, Jamie Hume, Tera-Maria Amani; Midcourters:
Elisapeta Toeava, Samon Nathan, Michaela Sokolich-Beatson; Defenders: Anna Harrison
(c), Phoenix Karaka, Storm Purvis
Key player: Defender Anna Harrison has been handed the captaincy, and will lead the
way at the defensive end, where the Mystics are likely to be strong. With two other
internationals in their defensive ranks, there should be plenty of rotation, allowing her to
give her all when out on court. Andrew Voerman
Outlook: With six Silver Ferns in the mix, and no significant losses from last year's squad
that finished third, while others have had plenty of change, the Mystics should be the early
favourites to finally claim a title. The biggest concerns come in the shooting circle, where
the extent of Maria Folau's involvement is yet to be known, with coach Helene Wilson
keeping her cards close to her chest, and Bailey Mes will have to bounce back quickly
after a poor Commonwealth Games. AV

Northern Stars
Shooters: Maia Wilson, Paula Griffin, Ellen Halpenny; Midcourters: Fa'amu Ioane, Grace
Kara (c), Christina Oscar, Kayla Cullen; Defenders: Ama Agbeze (England), Olivia
Coughlan, Holly Fowler
In: Grace Kara (Magic), Paula Griffin, Ellen Halpenny, Christina Oscar, Ama Agbeze,
Olivia Coughlan (Tactix)
Out: Leana de Bruin (Australia), Sulu Fitzpatrick (Pulse), Emma Iversen, Afa Rusivakula,
Courtney Tairi, Malia Vaka
Key player: Silver Fern Grace Kara will have to provide a steady hand in a new-look
squad. Six of their 10 players are new additions, while there is also Holly Fowler, who
missed all of last season after suffering a serious knee injury, and Kara, as captain will
play an important role in bringing them together, and getting them firing offensively. AV
Outlook: They may be emphasising that they are no longer the 'new team,' in their second
season of action, but the Stars are effectively starting from scratch on court. Grace Kara
has been named captain, but expect England's Commonwealth Games-winning captain

Ama Agbeze to have plenty of influence as well. The potential is there for this team to
make the top three, but they will have to gel quickly, under new coach Kiri Wills. AV

Ariana Cable-Dixon was a breakout star for the Magic last season. Will she kick on in
2018?
Key player: With Grace Kara gone, Ariana Cable-Dixon is set to take on a bigger role in
the Magic's midcourt, after an impressive debut season at this level last year. Given the
Silver Ferns' struggles in that area over the past couple of seasons, there are plenty of
incentives for her to perform. AV
Outlook: The Magic stand to gain the most from the fact that last year's finalists, the Steel
and the Pulse, have lost key players. Grace Kara is the only significant loss from last
year's squad, which only missed out on the finals on tiebreakers. Continued growth from

their younger players - the likes of Cable-Dixon, Monica Falkner, Kelly Jury, and Sam
Sinclair - will be crucial. They started hot last year before stumbling home, but if they
can stick the landing this time, a return to glory potentially awaits. AV

An FBI lawyer who made headlines for exchanging derogatory text messages about
President Donald Trump has left the bureau.
That's according to a person familiar with the situation, who said Page voluntarily
resigned on Friday and is taking a new job.
Text messages between Page and Peter Strzok, an FBI agent who was assigned to special
counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, show them expressing negative views about
Trump and referring to him in derogatory ways.
Strzok was reassigned from the special counsel team after the text messages were brought
to Mueller's attention. Page had already left the Mueller team.

Republican lawmakers have pointed to the texts as evidence of partisan bias at the FBI.
