Letter of Intent

Fascinated by the leadership skill I do believe that propulsion and trust can bring anyone to the peak that he or
she wants to reach. One day, I dream of creating my own technology company that will add values to people’s
lives all over the world. I believe engineers have to be able to go beyond their special subjects and think
systematically. Another aspect, a complete awareness of recent developments is essential for an intellectually
stimulating and satisfying research career. For these reasons, I would like to study in Germany to experience
new perspectives because needles to mention that the Germany is one of the world leaders in the field of
technology.

I have chosen to pursue graduate studies in Communication Engineering at RWTH Aachen University because
of its disseminating mercurial educational and industrial research infrastructure. They will provide me with the
opportunities to attend industrial internship of 18 weeks and a 6-months period of research work. They also
provide advanced courses like Signal Processing in Multi-Antenna Communication Systems, Ad-Hoc Networks,
Acoustic Virtual Reality, Next generation cellular radio systems related courses etc. By working under the
guidance of distinguished professors, I look forward to a career in committed research where I can not only use
my academic background to achieve my research goals but also make original scientific contributions to my field
of interest and to mankind in general. Only RWTH can provide me the opportunities because of their contact
with the leading companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Deutsche Telecom, Siemens etc. Its industrial and Non-
industrial research scopes would satiate my thirst for knowledge as well as some other factors like ranking,
reputation, geography, funding, living cost etc. It would be one of the major steps towards reaching my
professional goals, and I sincerely hope to achieve this opportunity.

In my Undergraduate level, I got plenteous opportunity to work with Communication. I decided to go through
for Digital Electronics I (GPA 4.00), Electrical Properties and Materials (GPA 3.00), Signals and Linear System
(GPA 3.50), Digital Signal Processing (GPA 4.00), Communication Theory (GPA 3.75), Solid State Devices (GPA
3.75), Processing and Fabrication Technology (3.50), Telecommunication Engineering (GPA 4.00) and Optical
Fiber Communication (GPA 4.00). I had apprehended the deterioration of my first level grade. Eventually, my
grades in the last 2 years reflect my quest for higher didactics, avg. CGPA was 3.80 (95%). My overall grades in
my undergraduate studies have been good, but not excellent. This again reflects my cognition and my approach
to incorporate in the field of research. I have secured my section position 5th among 50 students. Beside my
academic results, I have completed Academic Certification of CCNA I-IV. My interest in Communication
motivated me to take my undergraduate thesis in relevant area which was named “Crosstalk analysis of a
FBG-OC based optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) of a WDM systems”. The main objective of the
thesis is to analysis the crosstalk with different types of variation of variables. During this period, it helped me to
achieve prowess of the simulation technique with MATLAB and synopsis of theoretical analysis. I also have a
paper in International Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research (IJSER) named “Design and
implementation of Low Cost Home Security System using GSM Network”, volume 3, issue 3 which is
accepted and will be published on March 2012.

After my Master’s Degree in Communication, I will engaged all my potential to make the best use of it and to
pursue a research career by enrolling Ph.D. program, which, I believe, will give me intellectual satisfaction,
gratification of becoming a contributor to knowledge and personal rewards of learning and discovery. Today,
since the need of supervision of Communication engineering in the universities as well as industries is inherent
in my home country, furthermore I have a plan to be a part of the lab facility and to serve our country to the hype
regarding this field. In this context, this study will be immensely helpful with the ideas, and solutions to form the
foundation for technical innovations to the benefit of society as well as industry of my country.

Thank you for my candidature as a prospective graduate student.

Sincerely,
Nahian Chowdhury,
