The Influence of Curiculum Change 2006 to 2013 on Primary School

Student Activities

PART I

A. Background

Education is the best provision for human living in this world. With
education, human will understand and solve various life problem. In lifes, human
can learned whatever they want without certain restrictions. However when we
talk education in public, moreover in the educate institution, there will be a rules
that from government called curriculum. Curriculum is reflects the community
conditions which has applied. A little bit moves of curriculum will develop a
country that apply it.
Curriculum is a basic education program that design by government that
will manage by school in leading students. Curriculum design is adjust from the
circumstances and abilities of education and daily necessary of life. The length of
a curriculum is usually adjusted to the result of the application and the changing
necessary of life in the future. Curriculum become an important guide for an
educator to giving knowledge for their students that will develop in time to time.

The 2013 curriculum was officially launched on 15 July 2013. While the
application in the academic year 2013/2014 just in certain schools that understand
of 2013 curriculum. In the past, we are familiar with the name of “KTSP” or The
2006 Curriculum which has been in effect since the academic year 2007/2008.
The most fundamental difference between the Curriculum 2013 with KTSP is
Curriculum 2013 controlled by government development that every school must
apply it while KTSP controlled by school development organizations.

The change and the renew of curriculum must always ongoing. Besides
increasing the quality of education, curriculum must always being renew in
following this era and updated globalization. Nowadays, curriculum still
improved for reach the best quality of education for a better Indonesia.
Applied 2013 curriculum that just felt by students with the new study
concept and student start to adapt with the concept that frontally changed into
different concept

Penerapan kurikulum 2013 yang baru dirasakan oleh siswa dengan konsep
pembelajaran baru dan siswa mulai beradaptasi dengan konsep pembelajaran
tersebut, secara frontal diganti dengan konsep yang berbeda jika living kurikulum
diterapkan. Walaupun konsep pembelajarannya tidak sepenuhnya baru namun
sudah dipastikan akan memiliki perbedaan. Jika menganalisa hal tersebut,
kemungkinan siswa akan menganggap pola pembelajaran yang diterapkan oleh
gurunya berbeda dengan pola pembelajaran sebelumnya.

Dalam kurikulum 2013, pelajaran bahasa inggris di SD akan masuk


dikegiatan ekstrakulikuler yang pelaksanaannya dilakukan diluar pelajaran. Tapi
mungkin untuk sekolah – sekolah tertentu masih memasukkan pelajaran bahasa
inggris seperti biasa dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar dengan maksud bahwa
memang pelajarn bahasa inggris di SD itu sangat penting dan sudah terbukti
hasilnya dari pelaksanaan KBK 2004 dan KTSP 2006 yang sudah terjadi.

The Definition of Curriculum is a basic education program that design by


government that will manage by school in leading students. Curriculum design is
adjust from the circumstances and abilities of education and daily necessary of
life.

The purpose of the study is to describe the need analysis rate of English
textbook for secondary school based on the character value within the curriculum
13. It also identifies the map of the student’s knowledge on character based
education. The research design is need assessment survey, while the data
collection techniques involve questionnaire and deep interview. The sample of the
study is 6 secondary schools implementing curriculum 13 in Kabupaten Sumenep.
The target subject are 6 English teachers and 130 students of secondary schools.
The data analysis shows that 6 secondary schools implementing curriculum 13 at
present needed an English textbook based on the character value which can be
used as a supplement of the required English book from Kemendikbud. It is
expected to facilitate the students study and understand English textbook. Besides,
out of 130 students, 92.06% indicate excellent level of their knowledge and
understanding toward nation character and culture values. Nevertheless, 7.94
students have not been able to answer some questions correctly. (Marsuki : 2015)

As well as internet, there are many books provide Curriculum definition but this
article only draws the definitions from some books that are published up to 2012.

1. According to Nichols, Shidaker, Johnson, & Singer (2006) that


Curriculum is an area of education that is characterized by a lack of
agreement about its definition and nature.
2. According to Wortham (2006) that Curriculum is a planned set of course
that is presented to teachers to arrange teaching and learning in certain
level of ages.
3. According to Nation & Macalister (2010) define Curriculum as a guidance
in designing courses that consits of outer cyrcle namely Priciples,
Environment, and needs that involve practical and theoretical
considerations that will have a major effect in guiding the actual process of
course production. Inner cyrcle that consists of goals and its center,
contents and sequences, format and presentation, and monitoring and
assessment.
4. According to Cattington (2010), curriculum (or curriculum standards) to
refer to the standards, benchmarks, and outcomes that delineate the content
to be taught and learned in science classrooms.
5. According to Slattery (2006) Curriculum should be developed time by
times to the postmodern curriculum that is radically eclectic, determined in
the context of relatedness, recursive in its complexity, autobiographically
intuitive, aesthetically intersubjective, embodied, phenomenological,
experiential, simultaneously quantum and cosmic, hopeful in its
constructive dimension, radical in its deconstructive movement, liberating
in its poststructural intents, empowering in its spirituality, ironic in its
kaleidoscopic sensibilities, and ultimately, a hermeneutic searchfor greater
understanding that motivates and satisfies us on the journey.
6. According to Lake and Winterbottom (2010) in Kattington (2010),
Curriculum is a set of rule that benefits students by providing them with
practice in both content and social curriculum through the use of active
learning, exploration of interests, civic responsibility, character building,
and recognizing and helping thecommunity.
7. According to Dat (no year) in Tomlinson (2008 Ed) impled that
curriculum requires too much to be accomplished within a unit and that
their students want a moremanageable and realistic learning goal.
