Universal  Design  for  Learning  (UDL):  I  created  an  iMovie  for  this  lesson,  which  will  benefit  visual  learners.  My
lesson  is  an  introduction  to  who  Harriet  Tubman  is,  so  the  video  will  be  a  great  visual  for  students  to  see  what
she  looks  like.  It  also  benefits  my  auditory  learners  since  I  incorporated  a  video  into  the  movie  along  with
music.
Lesson  idea  implementation
I  will  open  the  lesson  by  addressing  the  standard  and  specifying  that  we  will  be  learning  about  Harriet
Tubman.  I  will  then  start  the  iMovie  that  I  created  that  introduces  who  she  is  and  what  exactly  she  did.  We
will  then  hold  a  class  discussion  about  the  video  and  what  they  thought.  After  the  discussion,  I  will  introduce
the  project  they  will  be  completing  throughout  the  week.  The  standard  also  addresses  the  figures  Susan  B.
Anthony,  Frederick  Douglass,  Elizabeth  Cady  Stanton  and  Sojourner  Truth.  The  students  will  be  placed  in
partners  and  assigned  a  historical  figure  to  complete  their  project  on.  Their  project  will  be  to  create  their  own
iMovie  about  their  figure  and  present  it  to  the  class  at  the  end  of  the  week.
The  students  will  be  required  to  find  an  educational  video  about  their  historical  figure  and  at  least  4  pictures
to  support  the  video.  To  extend  their  learning  to  a  higher  level,  the  students  will  be  required  to  work
individually  and  they  will  need  to  have  at  least  10  pictures  to  support  it  along  with  a  video.  At  the  end  of  the
week  when  the  students  complete  their  iMovie,  with  assistance,  they  will  present  their  video  to  the  class
along  with  telling  about  their  figure.  The  teacher  will  assess  their  learning  based  on  the  video  and  pictures
they  selected  along  with  how  well  they  presented  the  information.  Feedback  will  also  be  provided  in  class.
Importance  of  technology:
By  using  a  multimedia  tool  for  this  project,  the  students  are  exploring  educational  videos  online  along  with
choosing  pictures  to  correspond.  They  are  also  taking  ownership  by  creating  their  own  iMovie  by  themselves.
This  specific  project  could  not  be  completed  without  technology,  considering  they  at  least  need  the  internet
to  explore  videos.  If  they  did  not  use  a  multimedia  production  tool,  they  would  lose  their  sense  of  exploration
in  creating  their  own  movie.  In  this  activity  they  will  also  be  exploring  discovery  education  to  find  an

educational  video  for  their  movie.

Inspiration  (optional):

Internet  Safety  and  Student  Privacy:
Whenever  students  are  completing  this  activity,  it  is  important  for  them  to  provide  credit  where  it  needs  to
be.  They  need  to  give  credit  to  Google  images  for  the  pictures  they  find  along  with  Discoveryeducation.com
for  the  educational  video  they  will  find.  By  doing  this,  it  will  eliminate  them  copyrighting  what  they  used.  Also,
the  students  will  not  place  their  picture  on  the  video  they  created.  They  may  put  their  first  name  or  a
pseudonym  if  they  would  like,  which  would  alleviate  any  fear  by  parents  they  their  child  can  be  located  or
contacted  by  publishing  the  video.
Reflective  Practice:
I  feel  like  the  activity  I  created  using  iMovie  could  impact  student  learning  in  the  sense  that  they  get  to  create
a  high-‐quality  multimedia  project.  I  created  this  as  an  introduction  to  the  standard.  I  opened  by  showing  a
video  I  created  about  Harriet  Tubman  as  an  example.  To  further  extend  the  lesson,  I  required  the  students  to
discuss  the  other  historical  figures  in  the  standard  by  creating  their  own  movie  production.  I  designed  this
lesson  to  promote  a  higher-‐level  of  learning  within  my  students.
