Genre Analysis

In this assessment I’m going to talking about genre in all platform and I choose
drama genre, and I chose game of thrones, the crown, orange in the new black,
narcos, scandal and black swan.

Genre that describes narrative fiction, intended to be more serious ie; not comedic.
Usually focusing on specific character, their journey and their development. Exhibits
real life characters, situations, settings, conflict. Purpose is to move the audience
emotionally through the development of realistic characters dealing with emotional
struggles. Characters are in conflict with themselves, others, or society. In early
1950s audience like to watch drama program because they can connect with the
product. In today is film and series drama genre there are a lot of them example
Game of Thrones, The Crown, Narcos, Scandal, Black swan, Doctor who and more,
these series and film was big hit in this genre, in all the drama genre the typical
props will be knife, gun, alcohol, drug, blood and more. These product are
distribution in so many platform.

Game of thrones: the game of thrones is distribute in TV, streaming services, online,
DVD/blu-ray, Game of Thrones has become one of the most epic TV series ever
produced and one of the most illegally downloaded shows as well, but it was majorly
telecast in HBO. Representation, they show innocence and loser. Narrative multi-
stand it has multiple stories every in episode that create audience.

The Crown: is distributed for netflix, the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to
modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen,
who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As
the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed
that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century. The
narrative and alter-narrative is multi-strand narrative for alternative narrative is
equilibrium, for the promotion “the Daily Express reported that the Queen had seen
the first season of The Crown” and so many people started watching and in one
report says the series got more popular in season 2. According to the BBC, the first
two seasons cost $130 million —or between $6.5 million and $13 million per
episode.

Orange Is The New Black: is distributed in netflix, Piper Chapman is a public

relations executive with a career and a fiance when her past suddenly catches up to
her. In her mid-30s she is sentenced to spend time in a minimum-security women's
prison in Connecticut for her association with a drug runner 10 years earlier. This

Netflix original series is based on the book of the same title. Audience like this series
because there was different ethnicity people and the series is not targeting one focus
of group, and the story is different it’s about women prisoners and it’s based on true
story. This series represent, innocence, scream, sexism, loser, objectification and
mental health.

Narcos: Narcos is based on true story about Pablo Escobar who cocaine trade in
Colombia, drug kingpins of the late '80s in this raw, gritty also detailed are the
actions taken by law enforcement as they battle in the war on drugs, targeting
notorious and powerful figures drug lord Pablo Escobar. As efforts are made to
control cocaine, one of the world's most valuable commodities, the many entities
involved -- legal, political, police, military and civilian find themselves in conflict and
they own a society, there’s no protagonist and antagonist in this series. The series
represent, issues that were in 1980’s America: drug, alcohol, sexism, screamings,
gun, losers and “cool people”, the audience like this series because it’s a gritty
nostalgia series, aimed at young people and those who remember the 80’s. The
main target audience is for Colombian people.

Black Swan: Nina is rising ballerina in a dance school, she forms a friendship with
her rival, which brings her dark side to life. They are due to perform Swan Lake, Nina
as the white swan and Lily as the black. Nina starts to express her darkside and has
hallucinations, which involves sex and murder. These situations revolve around Lily,
paranoia and mental health is a theme in this film, set against a controlled ballet
environment, that is brutal. They distributed in cinema, on demand, DVD/blu-ray,
online, and consoles. This movie represent to audience, innocence, sexism and
mental health. This movie gave audience mixed ideas as it is non linear, due to the
mental health. The ballet is beautiful through hard brutal work on the body, but the
brutal mindscape is not as beautiful. This film is for all ages perhaps women because
of the content.

Scandal: this is a political drama, these series mirrors scandals from presidencies, to
add a realism and a drama to the stories and the characters. Distributed by ABC
channel they telecast 7 season from april 5 2012 to april 19 2018 total episodes is
124. This follows a continuous storyline and characters.

I concluded by saying there are alot of film in this genre. I learn from this
assessment is audience like to watch something that connect them more like real
story that will reach all type of audience, and in this genre there are so many world
movie has released and its successfully hit in audience. These kind of genre
everyone will watch in all platform of media. In early 80s days everyone like to watch
drama genre.
