This document is the Technical Handbook for the Runway Lighting Interface provided by MTECH Systems
Pty Ltd.
It provides information facilitating the safe and effective operation of the interface.
The Runway Lighting Interface module interfaces between the AWOS and the runway lighting system.
The module has 6 optoisolated inputs, to galvanically separate the runway lighting system from the AWOS
system. The user can select either all clean contacts or all voltage level inputs.

LETHAL VOLTAGES
There are no lethal voltages present in the unit under normal operational conditions.
Users are advised not to work on this mast in the field during thunderstorm activity.
Referring to ICAO Doc 9328 the user needs to establish whether the runway edge lights or runway centre
lights will be used. The module can be located in the AWOS rack or at the runway lighting control system,
with communications via TCP/IP network to the AWOS rack.
The lighting system must connect to the card via one contact pair for every lighting stage.
These contacts must be voltage free. The common of all contacts is connected in common.

6.1 Troubleshooting
6.1.1 Failure
Inability to read changes in light settings is usually caused by the cables between the runway lighting
system and the Surface Weather Server and this should be checked first.
Connection from DIO to GND should result in a reading of lighting stage 1 . If this does not work reinstall
the driver and restart the SWS software.
