Financing College Tuition : Government Policies and Educational Priorities. Washington,

D.C.: AEI Press, 1999. Print.
(AEI Press, 1999)

This book that discusses the effects of people in college, tuition, and priority wise. For
example, the Pell grant program’s intention is to assist low-income families so they could have
the opportunity to attend college. However, with the increase in tuition and limited funding, Pell
grants cover a small portion of the tuition and the government contributes to a minimal amount
of fundings.
This is a beneficial source because it explains the influence financial aid on tuition. With
this it will support the idea that tuition part of our project on how student pay for college.
Besides looking for and receiving scholarships, financial aid is also included in tuition, but not
all student can or may be able to receive financial aid, which is a huge a contrast to those
benefiting it and does who don’t have the opportunity to obtain it.
This is a good source because it provides research and gave scenarios in which can alter
the students’ priority and think about what to expect from paying the tuition. It also provides
information about the change in amount of financial aid over the years.

Swail, W.S. (2006). "Institutional Strategies Series." Student Success. Education Policy Institute
(www.studentretention.org).
(Swail, 2006)
This online source highlights the literature and research that has paved the way for
understanding what factors help students succeed in postsecondary education. Including how the
emergence of social and academic integration, academic preparedness, campus climate,
commitment to educational goals and the institution, and financial aid.
This source will be used in the project due to its descriptive research and highlights key
elements that a college student needs to know while in college. Since the message of our project
is that although everyone is facing different struggle and problems, there is a common reality
where we can all relate. For example, college students feeling angst, meaning it involves the
feeling of not being understood by anyone and that the person is alone in the world. With this
being said this include insightful resources that entail options that help a student grow from that
thought, which can incorporated at the end of our project.
With this, this source provides a variety of different support services, campuses can
create a climate conducive to student's thriving and persisting to graduation. Listening to student
voices and asking what they need is crucial, as well as what interactions with staff, faculty, and
peers affect how students enhances the learning and connection they feel toward the school.

Rajan, Mallika. “Graduate Student vs. Undergraduate Student.” 20 Mar. 2018.

(Rajan, 2018)
With this interview, the discussion is about what is the different experience between a
graduate versus being an undergraduate student. The main goal was to see if there is any
particular difference in case of academic and social experience, and how it changes or remain
the same over the years.
In other words, this interview will be used as a personal experience of a college student
aspect. With this, information can be collected from a real-life experience. Not only this but
incorporate how a local student of UNC Charlotte evolves whether socially, academically, or
mentally. This is a good way to entail our main goal about the college experience.
This interview is relevant because it entail a real-life experience of a graduate student.
Not only this but a local student from UNCC.

Masci, David. "Should colleges get back to basics?". CQ Research.

(Masci, 1998)
This book explores how education has changed over the last century As colleges offers
more career-oriented programs like business and communications. Advocates of change argue
that students should have the option to choose a more practical education. At the same time,
many educators say that education should focus primarily on the tradition and general courses.
This will be use in the project to enhance on how college traditionally evolved today.
Although the flaw of this source is that the research was done two decades ago, it will be useful
to s compare how colleges changed over the course. Also which college student mostly
preferred. Additionally in these career-based colleges, what courses are mostly taken.
By interpreting this, something to note is the change in the education system. This also
influences how students today experience a different perception of the education system than
those in the past. Because each education differs so does the learning and lifestyle of the student.
Choosing between which college would fit determines based on the variety of the college itself.
This will help our project compare whether going to a general college or a college that only
focuses on career-based courses affect s student decision in life.

“How Is College Different from High School.” SMU: World Changers Shaped Here,
www.smu.edu/Provost/ALEC/NeatStuffforNewStudents/HowIsCollegeDifferentfromHighSchoo
l.
(SMU, How Is College Different from High School)

This online source compares the difference between college and high school. Not only
this but includes specific events and contrast the situation based on whether a high school
perspective or a college student perspective.
This will be useful in our project because it will help support our statement on how the
transition of a high school senior to a college freshman is a huge change. Although the education
course are quite similar, the expectations and standards now varies on the individual itself.
This source is credible because SMU, or in other words known as Southern Methodist
University is a private university is a well-known for its center for global research with a liberal
arts tradition. With this being said, this source is published by an actual university, which is
reliable, however may be biased. Meaning some facts may hold some flaws; however, the source
is useful to compare how a student perceive the transition in contrast of the college itself.

Keever, Erin. “Charlotte Talks: What Will Light Rail Mean For UNC Charlotte And University
City?” WFAE,
wfae.org/post/charlotte-talks-what-will-light-rail-mean-unc-charlotte-and-university-city.

(Keever, 2018)
This online news article basically explores the purpose of the light rail and what it plans
to bring for the UNCC student. On key quote to note is: “It’s a project that’s been years in the
making, and what UNC Charlotte Chancellor Phil Dubois calls "the most transformational
project in the history of the campus." With this being said with a decade of the light rail
construction, it has reached to its potential to benefit University students due to it extension.
This highly useful due to its recency and local connection to UNCC which is a personal
connection. Although our topic start off broad, we plan to narrow it down to locality, meaning
our own university, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Additionally, with the light
rail extension in provided many opportunities to travel back forth to downtown and to the
southside of Charlotte. Not only this but it benefits students who lacks transportation. But the
flaw is that there is a limit into what stops are available, which will be discuss during the
presentation.
