Welcome to the Richmond SPCA Community! By
subscribing to our email newsletter you are

that is dedicated to the principle that every life is
precious. We want to welcome you to a
community were we can hopefully educate the
Richmond about animal welfare, and help
animals around us find their forever home.

dedicated to adoption, rehabilitation, sterilization
and education. We have saved more than 4,000
homeless animals each year and care for about
350 cats and dogs daily. Our mission is to
practice and promote the principle that every life
is precious. We operate a low­cost, full­service
veterinary hospital. We also offer a free behavior
helpline, pet behavior classes, children’s
educational programs, and a Trap Neuter
program to spay, neuter, and vaccine community

16th Annual Dog Jog

Our 16th annual Dog Jog 5K run is going to be
held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:30 am
to 2:00 pm. It will be located at the Richmond
SPCA, which is on 2519 Hermitage Road. Be
sure to register for one of the funnest runs in
Richmond, Virginia. All proceeds from this run will
benefit the dogs and cats at the Richmond
SPCA. We will have two runs: the 5K, which is for
humans only and a one mile run for both humans
and their furry companions. We will also have
vendors on site where you can buy pet friendly
items and Fun Zones for kids and pets­­the whole
family is welcome! Register early to receive a t­
shirt and other free goodies. Prizes for our top
runners will be awarded at the end, so make sure
to stay for the ceremony. For more information

Susan M. Markel Vet Hospital

Originally the pilot Clinic for Compassionate
Care, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital
was founded in January 2016. The hospital is a
full­service veterinary hospital providing high­
quality pet care at a low cost for families that
meet certain financial and income qualifications
in the Greater Richmond region, including but not
limited to the Counties of Hanover, Henrico, and
Chesterfield. This initiative falls in line with our
greater goal of ensuring all families can afford
access to treatment options for their pet cats and

dogs. Building upon the SPCA’s pet­retention
services, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary
Hospital will assist in helping pets stay at home
with their caregivers while enjoying top­notch
care.
In addition to this income­based program, the
hospital will also provide care for pets in a
number of other situations, including area
municipal shelters, pets adopted from the
Richmond SPCA, and pets referred to the
