1 General
Coherent and concise communication in an international company such as Airbus
requires that a common language be used. Formal control of a common language is vital
for consistency, contractual issues and simply for efficiency.
This language must be well understood internally, by our Suppliers, Customers and the
aviation community all over the world.
For these reasons:
• The Airbus language is English using the aeronautical terminology in common
use, i.e. the American aeronautical terminology. The Technical publications
shall, in particular, comply with ATA Specifications (Air Transport Association
of America).
• A number of significant terms and expressions specific to Airbus activities
have been defined; these are contained in Module 1: Glossary of Airbus
Terms and Expressions, GATE (formerly ABD0056).
• A number of abbreviations have been listed; these are contained in:
• Module 2: Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (formerly
ABD0037) that lists abbreviations approved for use in the Definition
Dossier.
• Module 3: Abbreviations For Information, that lists abbreviations used in
various fields of activity but not approved for use in the Definition
Dossier or Technical Publications.
