Magazine Unit 14

LO1//
Ideas;
Recycling/ Packaging, my first idea is a magazine promoting the use of recycled
packaging within different industries, and the use of biodegradable materials
etc in the production and manufacture of a wide range of goods, the audience
would be a niche of socially and environmentally oriented young adults aged 20
- 40, as well as businesses looking at more eco friendly production techniques,
therefore it is aimed at demographic groups A/B and E, not because of income
but based on age and social status and how environmentally concerned they are
likely to be. The aim of this magazine will be to educate, and inform readers
about social and environmental issues and promote sustainability.
Similar magazines include ‘Sublime’, an international, sustainable lifestyle
magazine. It is a bimonthly print publication aimed at making sustainability
appealing, it covers topics such as nature, fashion, technology, architecture
etc. There is a strong emphasis on community, fairtrade and natural/ organic
products. "Sublime hopes that companies will put their money where their
socially responsible mouths are."
My main concern with this is identifying a specific topic that i could easily
research and take primary source images for

Music - An indie/ alternative music magazine specifically oriented around

LO2// Recce
Parsons Close, Pinfold Lane, Beesby, Alford, LN13 0JG.

Saturday 28th April - 2- 4pm

This property is owned by Guy and Louise Willey, the beehives are kept in the
back corner of the field an i believe this is a good location that i can easily
access and get my source photos from. I will take photos of the hives and the
inside of them and the frames, i will also be able to photograph equipment.
This location has many advantages; primarily its ease of access, the only
disadvantage is its very weather dependent but that would be the same in any
location as it's a weather sensitive subject.

LO2// Legal and ethical issues

Legal and ethical issues can range from copyright, intellectual property and
the use of offensive material. The IPSO is partially responsible for regulating
print based media, however it is primarily self regulated, usually by an editor
that checks all the articles before the magazine is published.
With my magazine the main issues i have will be Misleading readers and issues
surrounding the accuracy of my information, i will have to use reliable sources
to ensure my article is factual and up to date, in addition to this i will have
to source my own information to prevent any copyright infringements, whilst
also ensuring accuracy.

Risk Assessment//
The main risk associated with photographing bees is aggravating them and the
chances of being stung, to reduce this risk you should ensure you are covered
completely, wearing long sleeve clothing and gloves etc, you should also wear
appropriate headwear making a special effort to cover your face and neck as
these are the most common areas to get stung, and if they start getting
aggressive you should retreat to an indoor closed area and walk away calmly to
avoid inducing anymore stress.
Another potential risk may be smoke inhalation from the smoker (a piece of
equipment that releases smoke to calm the bees by making them drowsy and easier
to handle)
Equipment damage is also another potential hazard
