Procedure: 50-minute class
● Students will come into class, and take their seats. Does anyone know any poem by Edgar Allan
Poe besides the ones you have talked about in class? Have students share the poems they know --
say “great!” for the students who share. (5 min)
● Pass out Edgar Allan Poe worksheet. “You have begun reading poetry written by Edgar Allan Poe,
today, you will get a look at his background and understand why he wrote the way he did. You
will have 30 minutes to read the article written about his biography and complete the questions
on the second page. This will be collected, so please write your name on the top! on the second
page, there is a short quiz that relates to the article, a good tactic to use is to look at the
questions first so you know what to look for while you read. Try and mark down the answers as
you find them.” (30 min)
● Walk around to see if anyone needs help (during 30 min)
● When you are finished, raise your hand and I will collect your assignment and give you your next
assignment. (during 30 min)
● Students begin working on next assignment which is to read “Bells” by Edgar Allan Poe (last 20
min of class -- lesson by teacher)
