The Honorable K. Michael Conaway, Ranking Member
U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (“Committee” or “HPSCI”)
HVC-304
Washington, DC 20515

Re: Request for a Correction to the HPSCI Report on Russian Active Measures dated March 22, 2018
(the “Report”)

Dear Congressman Conaway:

As you know I am counsel to Roger Stone and appeared with him during his HPSCI interview in
September, 2017. As part of Mr. Stone’s ongoing effort to ensure accurate information, and information
which is not misleading, is included in the record as it relates to him, I submit this request for a correction.

On Page 75 of the Report, in the second full paragraph, the Committee incorrectly quoted a Tweet
posted by Mr. Stone on August 21, 2016. (See Attached) The Committee omitted the word “the” which
should have immediately proceeded the word, “Podesta’s.” The actual post by Mr. Stone read, “Trust me,
it will soon the Podesta’s time in the barrel. #CrookedHillary” As further explained below, by omitting the
word, “the” the Committee completely changed the meaning of the Tweet.

By incorrectly quoting Mr. Stone’s Tweet, the Committee’s Report ascribes a meaning never
intended by Mr. Stone, and in fact imparts a meaning which is specifically denied. While the Tweet itself is
not grammatically correct, it does not refer to a specific Podesta, but rather to the brothers collectively,
“…the Podesta’s…” The Report’s omission of a simple word would have the reader believe that a specific
Podesta was the subject, when one was not, and even then, a reader would have to make the assumption
it was referring to John, which again, it was not.

For the sake of absolute clarity, Mr. Stone did not know in advance about the breach of John
Podesta’s email, the existence of the hacked Podesta emails, or know in advance anything would be
released. What Mr. Stone did know prior to his Tweet, and what he testified to under oath in front of the
Committee, was that the Podesta brothers (John and Tony) had long term and extensive business interests
in Ukraine and with Russian banking and oil. This knowledge came to be known by Mr. Stone through
published news reports and the publicly released Panama Papers, all of which predated Mr. Stone’s Tweet.
Contextually this is important because Mr. Stone’s friend, Paul Manafort, had just days before resigned
from the Trump Campaign over his business dealings in Ukraine. At the time, Mr. Stone believed it to be
manifestly unfair that John, who was running the Clinton Campaign, and Tony who was a major supporter
of his brother’s efforts, not be held to the same standard.

Mr. Stone in no way believes this omission was intentional on behalf of the hard working members
of the Committee or the HPSCI staff, but merely a typographical error made during the drafting of a very
long and comprehensive document. Accordingly, we respectfully request that this letter and the attached
Tweet be made part of the Committee’s official records and backup substantiation for the Report so that
future reference and citing to the Report includes the accurate Tweet published by Mr. Stone.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. Should you need any additional
information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully submitted,
