To Whom It May Concern:

Trysha Hicks was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our four unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient services. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.

Guess why this letter of recommendation should be easy to write? Because Trysha Hicks is
hands-down one of the best, if not, the best new graduate we have to offer you. Why is it
difficult to write this letter? Because it's difficult to describe how fine a candidate like Trysha is
without running out of superlatives - or without being perceived as too aggressive a promoter of
her! First, just review her resume again - this says it all: an honor's graduate with a 4.00 GPA,
extensive professional experience beyond the basic BSN requirements, a V.A. Valor externship,
an international healthcare experience in Spanish, a College of Nursing student organization
leader, and numerous well-deserved scholarships and awards. It is even a plus to have had a
sorority affiliation, because of the philanthropic and leadership opportunities. Her time
management skills are superb; otherwise she could not have accomplished so much in so short
a time.

Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Trysha will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice

Trysha Hicks is as impressive in person as she is on paper. When you interview her, you'll
understand that what you see is what you get - She has no hidden agendas. What a breath of
fresh air! Trysha will tell you what she's thinking and how she feels - that is one reason others
are so drawn to her. She is a natural leader whom one can trust to be an assertive, articulate
problem solver. The other reason is her wry sense of humor about herself, the world, and the
human condition. And, oh - by the way - it's always fun and challenging to work with her. So be
sure you get her in on your ground floor - she won't be there long as a new graduate. Did you
catch her minor: Business Health Administration - so she has the "face of the next great
generation of nurses" written all over her. You'll want her to be on your healthcare team as
soon as possible. Don't waste a minute!

Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN
